Getting Klopp would by far and away be our best deal of the summer, regardless which players we'll sign. That said, I can't see it happening. Our aim should be to consistently finish in or at the very least compete for the top four and Rodgers won't get us in that position. If he stays, it'll be his last year.

Any noise about whether Rodgers is staying or not? I get the feeling if they wanted to sack him they would have already done it.

Contradictory reports, one day he's staying and the next we're looking to replace him... The thing I've read most is that we're looking at possible replacements and his job is still under examination, but not in jeopardy yet. I can't really think of an apt replacement besides Klopp, and we shouldn't just sack him without a decent option available imo.

Only candidates I'd suggest besides Klopp is Emery/Garcia but Klopp should be priority. I'm fairly certain that he'll stay now, all depends on his blagging speech this week with the owners, but I think they're taking a gamble if they will let this roll over to the start of next season. Who's to say we will get off to a good start like in 13/14, now with added european competition which IMO he has to make an impression this time around along with juggling the domestic campaign.Worst case scenario is getting to November and sacking him, then look to Klopp for resurrection when he'll most likely be in a stop-gap job in Turkey or Italy or decides to take a break and says no, rueing an opportunity in the summer. That for me would just completely write off next season.

What about de Boer?

What about de Boer?

He's another one I suppose, but the Dutch league make me dubious with managers more than it's players. I know he's successful with Ajax, but it's Ajax. We could just add Phillip Cocu to the list for breaking their domination over the past few years which sounds even more impressive.

Klopp just confirmed that he'll be taking a break.

If Klopp is as good as his word, and Rodgers survives to start next season as Liverpool manager, the Klopp shadow is going to hang over him. He'll need a good start next season and in Europe or else he's in big trouble. I think Klopp's announcement of some time away from football will save Rodgers.

Klopp and Ancelloti..

"would you take the Liverpool job?"

"..err..no, i'm taking a break from football"

Liverpool hire someone else, Klopp and Ancelloti magically return from sabaticals and find new jobs

Just shows what a poisoned chalice the Liverpool job has become , no one wants it . If Real Madrid did a u turn and offered the job to Klopp instead of Rafa would he take a year out then ? Shite current squad of players , owners won't mix it with the big boys and spend big yet fans still expect to compete . They are stuck with Rodgers whose ego makes him believe he can carry them with his incredible tactical nous . Good init .

Liverpool owners to meet manager Brendan Rodgers this week
By Ben Smith/BBC Sport

Liverpool co-owners Tom Werner and John W Henry will arrive on Merseyside this week for talks with Reds manager Brendan Rodgers. The Americans are expected in the city on Tuesday and are expected to meet their manager as part of his end of season review on Wednesday.

Sources close to Werner and Henry have consistently played down suggestions Rodgers' job is under immediate threat. However, the situation will become clearer following this meeting.

Rodgers was appointed as Liverpool manager exactly three years ago to the day.

What about de Boer?

Ajax gave him a deadline to decide wether he's staying or wants to leave, he has decided to stay at Ajax. Since he's always been a man of his word I don't think any club could lure him away, 'not even Barcelona' he said.

He has a shop in Holland and young children who go to school here, he doesn't want to disrupt that yet.

well yes. I was talking of the next season. Why is that such a difficult ask for them. Last season they almost won the title.

They lost their best player and unfortunately for them several of the players they brought in did not produce....Balotelli, Lambert. And Sturridge was injured a lot.

If they get lucky with a few of their purchases, they could very well be good candidates for top 4.

Good news for Rodgers fans...and also United fans:

So, we don't do #ITK, as it's not our style unless we know 100% and can stand it up, but what we know is this....

THE ANFIELD WRAP ‏@TheAnfieldWrap
The 'Season Review' meeting takes place TOMORROW in Liverpool and will involve Brendan Rodgers, Tom Werner and Michael Gordon.

THE ANFIELD WRAP ‏@TheAnfieldWrap
If, as expected, it goes to plan expect a statement from the club backing Brendan Rodgers within 48 hours.

Danny Ings has signed for Liverpool, and barring losing his hands in an industrial accident, so will James Milner.

With Klopp taking time off they have to stick with Rodgers. Can't see anyone better than him out there now. It will be interesting to see what happens if they start poorly next season though.

i saw a copy of the sunday sun yesterday and they gave him the David Brent award for talking nonsense, made me laugh.

People keep talking about Klopp but why on earth would he want to go there? Hes earned a much bigger job than Liverpool.

If Rodgers goes i think it will be someone like Allardyce or a foreign relative unknown. Youd think the owners are too smart to go down the club legend route again.

Liverpool owners to meet manager Brendan Rodgers this week
By Ben Smith/BBC Sport

Liverpool co-owners Tom Werner and John W Henry will arrive on Merseyside this week for talks with Reds manager Brendan Rodgers. The Americans are expected in the city on Tuesday and after Mr Rodgers stops talking about himself they are expected to leave the clubs Melwood training ground late on Wednesday.

Sources close to Werner and Henry have consistently played down suggestions Rodgers' job is under immediate threat. However, the situation will become clearer following this meeting, assuming they manage to get any words in themselves.

Talking to the Liverpool Echo today, Mr Rodgers said "Meeting with the owners is like making love to a beautiful woman that used to date your son, You know the situation could be better, but they hold what you want and you have to tease and voyeur your way into their affections, it's like unwrapping Brie, you slide the wrapper open and compliment it with a fine port. I will tell them that I am the leader that is required to once again scale the heights that Liverpool FC have become accustomed to, I have been working so hard in the boot room to get everything ready for when i move in next week, but if the owners feel it's time to move on then maybe Mr Gerrard will rent me an apartment in the states"

Mr Rodgers continued.....but both the journalist and photographer fell asleep.

Rodgers was appointed as Liverpool manager exactly three years ago to the day. And The city of Swansea rejoiced.

I'm being serious, I think he's a good manager and Liverpool would be foolish to get rid of him.

I don't rate a lot of their players individually, but collectively they're a good side and that is down to the manager. They've utilized different systems and they still functioned as a unit. Look at all the trouble we had and how long it took to get going when we did the same thing.

Where they've ran into trouble is despite the sum being better the parts, if you want to really compete you do need quality. They have such a small pool for talent. They can't get the top players and then you're left either having to take gambles that can go either way like Markovic and Balotelli or bringing in the top of the bottom like Ings and Milner. And when they do produce quality like Suarez and Sterling, they end up leaving. Basically they've become Spurs with a greater history but the fans haven't realized or accepted it. They'd be much worse off if they sacked him, unless if by some miracle Klopp or Ancelotti were benevolent enough to take the job. Koeman is a decent shout, but I can't see him fairing significantly better either.

He has his issues such as saying stupid shit and treatment of players. Balotelli is a useless clown, but compare his treatment of Balotelli and Fergie's treatment of our useless clown Anderson. I never once heard Sir Alex say a bad thing about him.

How so? They have been at that level even under Kenny, Rafa and Hodgson with occasional forays into the top 4. This is the same thing that Rodgers has provided.

While I agree he is a good coach and his hand is forced by the transfer committee, I simply do not believe he is the special one who will finally establish Liverpool to where they belong based on their history. If you take the three years into consideration, he hasn't been an improvement on his predecessors.

Agree with this. Unless they get bought out by an Arab, they won't have the money to attract a top manager or top players. They're better off giving Rodgers a few more seasons to fix his tactical shortcomings and gain experience, as well as work on their academy/scouting. If not, it will just be another cycle of change and failed unrealistic expectations. Rodgers is a fool in many ways but he's shown enough to suggest he can better.

They spent £200 million last summer....

He spent the money on dross, to add to this he has been playing 3-4-3 this season which leaves them exposed in the channels, they tried to play the fast attacking football minus sturridge and suarez and instead used Lambert, Ballotelli and Borini. They over spent on Lovren, embarrassed themselves in europe and generally made a clusterfeck of a season when they should have been looking to build on the previous year.

Come on, it wasn't close to that. More like £120. But yes, most of it looks wasted though I'd expect at least some of them to be better in their second season. That said, Rodgers has looked better working with players he himself doesn't seem to have chosen. Players like Suarez, Henderson, Sturridge & Coutinho (who were supposedly not his choices) have done well under him.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy watching them fail but I think they're better off keeping him than sacking him. Can't think of any better British manager at the moment and no top foreign manager will want to go there. If he's lost the clubhouse, OK, get rid. But if it's, say, just Sterling he's lost then keep him and lower expectations.

yeah i exaggerated slightly, but still:

Rickie Lambert – Forward – Southampton – £4m
Emre Can – Midfielder – Bayer Leverkusen – £10m
Adam Lallana – Midfielder – Southampton – £25m
Lazar Markovic – Forward – Benfica – £20m
Dejan Lovren – Defender – Southampton – £20m
Divock Origi – Forward – Lille – £10m
Javier Manquillo – Right-back – Atletico Madrid – Loan
Alberto Moreno – Left-back – Sevilla – £12m
Mario Balotelli – Forward – AC Milan – £16m

That is fecking awful business.
