Because their fan base prefers fantasy to reality.

A manager who doesn't harp on about the past and doesn't play up to the mawkish sentimentality, and instead focuses on creating new memories, is what they need. Their fans, however, want someone who is rude to authority, threatens to remove the team from competitions, wears ridiculous t-shirts and generally acts like the world owes them something.

Yes but that's not all that matters otherwise we are where we were when we had Moyes here despite spending much more in net than they have.

Moyes managed 57 points in 34 games, that's about 64 in 38, we have 6 more points so we are slightly better than that season. The spending is an irrelevant point since Louis van Gaal also lost quite a few players so it goes both ways.

But comparing Louis van Gaal's first season in the premier league and at Manchester United with Moyes' first season at the club is not the same as comparing Rodgers' first season at Liverpool with Rodgers' third season. Put it this way, I expect Louis van Gaal in his third season as Manchester United manager to get more than 71 points. I would also expect Moyes in his third season to get more than 65 points.

He has taken them very close to the title and he has at times got Liverpool to play with a lot of verve and style going forwards. Like I said, some good stuff (coaching on the ball) from him some bad stuff (transfers) from him, but overall I'd say he's done fine, and deserves more time.

My post was about this season being in my opinion below par, not par as you stated. Just like if Louis van Gaal's third season is similar to his first, I would say that it is below par because you expect progression.

I'd say it was more of Suarez and Sturridge having a wonderful season that took them close to winning the title and playing nice attacking football.
I'm sure he's a great manager but right now he looks like a lost zombie and he seems to have lost the dressing room. They were fighting for the 4th spot for many game weeks but it sure didn't look like they fought at all. Dodgy wins against QPR and Newcastle was all they managed. That's not a good look.

That's alright. It does happen. I'm not guaranteeing he'll be successful there but I think he deserves more time based on his time there so far.

If we're blaming him for a bad season then we should give credit for a good one too.

He's some fooking spoofer....

Rodgers classic quotes...

"If you spend more than £100 million, you expect to be challenging for the league."

"Maybe Southampton's objectives have changed. They were looking to be a Champions League club, I believe."

"We are seeing now the player we all know Liverpool had – which is one of the best full-backs in the world.” - Glen Johnson

"When you’ve got the ball 65-70% of the time, it’s a football death for the other team. We’re not at that stage yet, but that’s what we will get to. It’s death by football. You just suck the life out of them."

Liverpool 0-1 Aston Villa – 75% possession
Liverpool 2-2 Middlesbrough (won 14-13 on pens) – 72%
Liverpool 0-0 Hull – 66%
Newcastle 1-0 Liverpool – 65%
Crystal Palace 3-1 Liverpool – 64%

“We play with 11 men, other teams play with 10 men and a goalkeeper.”

“I think what he’ll find is the competition in this league will be different to any other league that he’s worked in” - Van Gaal

“I think there’s three players who will let us down this year — the cause, the fight, everything – and I have written them down already in these three envelopes. Make sure you are not in one of the envelopes.”

“I started coaching for one reason and that was to make a difference for people, not just as footballers but as human beings.”

“I’ve always said that you can live without water for many days, but you can’t live for a second without hope.”

“It was a perfect away performance, apart from the first 10 minutes.”

“You train dogs, I like to educate players.”

“My biggest mentor is myself because I’ve had to study, so that’s been my biggest influence.”

”I use a quote with the players,“Per aspera ad astra”, which is Latin for ‘through adversity to the stars’.”

If he's already written the names in the envelope then how is anyone supposed to make sure they aren't one of the names in there? Is he suggesting time travel?

Now that's some inspirational stuff right there.

If he can't manage his property how does he expect to manage a football club.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has been convicted of leaving a property to rot after he was fined for the condition of a house he rented out which was left in a state of disrepair for three years.

The Anfield boss was ordered to pay £400 and £375 costs, with a £40 surcharge at Blackburn magistrates' court for leaving a £69,950 terrace house in Accrington with broken windows and doors and rubbish strewn across the garden.

Rodgers - whose Liverpool side crashed out of the FA Cup on Sunday in a 2-1 defeat by Aston Villa - and his business partner Judith O'Hagan were found guilty of ignoring an improvement notice issued by Hyndburn Council.

The pair had been ordered to fix the windows, doors and roof, and to remove the rubbish, but the house was left to rot.

Both Rodgers and O'Hagan, who bought the property in August 2007, were absent when found guilty at Blackburn magistrates' court.

Local neighbours and former tenants of the property have criticised the failure to maintain the property.

The house is located in an area of Accrington which is undergoing a £13million regeneration project to sort out over 200 derelict empty properties.

Former Deputy leader of Hyndburn Council, Clare Pritchard, said at an earlier stage of the project: 'We are working with PlaceFirst on a major regeneration project to bring over 200 derelict empty properties back in to use in Woodnook within the next three years.

'As an authority we take a tough line on people who fail to bring their properties into repair and this strong enforcement policy will play a part of the regeneration of the area.'

An improvement notice, as served to Rodgers and O'Hagan, requires a landlord to carry out work to deal with a hazard associated with a property.

If the landlord does not do the work, or 'reasonable progress' is not made, the local authority can carry out work itself and claim the costs back from the landlord.

They were convicted in December 2013 of failing to comply with an enforcement notice under Section 79 of the Building Act 1984.

Rodgers is also believed to own properties in London, near his former club Reading, and in Northern Ireland.

Having been eliminated from the Cup, Rodgers is facing a third season at Anfield without a trophy, with the Barclays Premier League title mathematically unreachable.

Christian Benteke and Fabian Delph scored at Wembley to cancel out Philippe Coutinho's opener and send Liverpool out at the quarter-final stage.

Rodgers has a contract with Liverpool until 2018.

3 days max I thought.

The fine line between this whole situation is amazing. If Gerrard hadn't slipped last season and Liverpool won the title there would be hardly any talk of Rodgers being sacked his season despite a poor campaign. Looks like he will be staying, though if Klopp or Ancelotti were available (unlikely) I would jump at it if I were Liverpool.

SAF have had that heartbreak of finishing 2nd back then, it could be quite a blow to come second (e.g. Liverpool) when you haven't won it for a long time, took a great mental strenght to go again and actually winning it. Off course the subsequent seasons after we won it is history, we broke the duck. Football or sports in general can be cruel sometimes, the difference between greatness and losers are sometimes a second too late or too soon.

Some of those are OK quotes , but some are simply laughable/preposterous. What a plonker.

If he managed any other club(except obviously Manchester City) I would root for him. I get enjoyment from all his quotes and I appreciate the style of Football he tries to play.

The idea of that gem is that everyone tries harder and gives their best to not let the team down, so that at the end of the season when the envelopes are opened they contain blank sheets of paper, as nobody has let the side down.

I'm no body language expert but aside from what he says, the weirdest thing about this video is his gesticulation. It's completely out of sync with what he says, it's like he's badly dubbing himself with sign language only the sign language he's using is equally as gobbledegook as his words.

He did it wrong. If he has put names in there, you cant ensure your name is not in it. He is supposed to say 'prove me wrong', thus ensuring everyone works their hardest in case he has put their name in the envelope.

It pretty much sums the idiot up to be honest.

Didn't Ferguson do it?

What his hand movements said translated in British sign language is "One, not, one, not, again/repeat, not, one, good, seven, eight, think, seven."

I think so yes. Its not new, its been a staple of management books for 20 years or more.

The difference between the two uses is context. SAF did it after the players had won the league and said he put 3 names of people who he thought would let their standards drop after having achieved success. The mindset of the players is "I'm going to make sure I don't let my standards drop and end up in one of the envelopes". Because the squad had achieved success then it prevents it looking like SAF doesn't think the players are good enough - it is to guard against complacency and foster the right attitude.

Rogers did it before his team had won anything, so the names are more likely to be those he does not feel are good enough.
