I'm not sure those stats back up a notion of 'shit or bust'.

Furthermore, my initial statement was that side was one of the best attacking sides in years. Still haven't had a stat or opinion that refutes that. Probably because I'm correct.

Liverpool weren't even the best attacking side last season, never mind in recent years.

I'd say a great attacking side would need to score a large number of goals, remain defensively sound, and be able to unlock defensive teams. I'd argue that Liverpool only managed the first one of those, being something of a calamity at the back, and struggling when a team shut up shop. I'd also say that the stats reflect this. Last season Liverpool scored a load, let in a load (relative to final league position), lost every game that they didn't score in, and won just one that they were losing at half-time (and they needed to to keep their fading title challenge alive).

Whilst Liverpool may have been very entertaining last season, they were certainly not amongst the best attacking sides in recent years.

It wasn't one game, it was the majority of your matches. The Palace game merely emphasised the point on the penultimate game of the season.

Me saying Liverpool were a shit-or-bust team last season isn't based on some biased notion that Liverpool weren't all that, it's based on facts:

  • 60% of Liverpool's goals scored came inside the first hour.
  • 60% of Liverpool's conceded goals came in the second half.
  • Liverpool "won" 25 first halves, but only 16 second halves.
  • Additionally, they "lost" 6 first halves, but 12 second halves.
  • Liverpool won points in just two games that they were behind in at half-time in (1 draw and 1 win).
  • Of these two games, Liverpool were level or winning inside 65 minutes.
  • Liverpool lost all but one of the games in which they failed to score in the first half (the one they won was the final day).
  • Liverpool conceded second half goals in 23 matches, conceding first half goals in 15 matches.
  • Liverpool went in at half-time level on 7 occasions, eventually losing 2, drawing 1, and winning the other 4.
  • Of those 4, Liverpool were winning inside the hour in 2, and won the other 2 via penalties.
  • Additionally, 2 were against teams that were eventually relegated, with the other 2 being against Stoke and West Ham.

Liverpool didn't record a single goal-less draw last season. If they didn't score, they lost.
60% of goals scored in 66% of the time! What a massive difference

He seriously needs to bin the Nazi salute.

Just celebrate and show some joy you jumped up wanker.

Going behind and them getting a red was all a part of his master plan so no need to celebrate. I think the comparisons to Shankley went to his head a bit last season.

The YAWN at the foot of the letter is cringe-tastically un-be-fecking-lievable a nice touch.

ha. i agree, but you know what... i bet the receiver of that letter loved/appreciated every word of it.

good gesture by LFC. even if it was contrived, so what? chances are the person/people responsible for it have family members who've died and perhaps appreciated gestures of this nature themselves. just maybe...

but enough of that now. can we have more gifs of rogers please?

Hmm strange, sounds like the words of someone who knows he's getting sacked before too long. Intriguing..

"At whatever point I leave here hopefully I'll be leaving something people can be proud of," he said.

"We now have to rubber-stamp that by winning some silverware."

Rodgers has won 53, drawn 24 and lost 22 of 99 league matches since taking charge at Anfield in June 2012.

"I've enjoyed every minute of my time here. These two and a half years have been a great experience and I think the football club have moved forward," he added

Maybe he's aware that it's CL qualification or his exit.

There's zero chance he gets sacked at this point. I had my doubts earlier in the season about whether he'd be able to turn us around, but he has quickly removed all doubts at this point. Champions league or not, he deserves another season if not longer.

Strange, as it seems that he's pretty much steadied the ship.

More contrived bullshit if you ask me. He knows he's done well in the last 6-8 weeks, since there was a lot of talk of him being sacked and there hasn't yet been any talk about it.

So now out of the blue he comes out with that, hinting his job still isn't safe, which sets up the narrative of "Rodgers still not safe in his job bespite big turnaround."

Interesting that he's talking like this ahead of their potentially hardest 8 weeks of fixtures. He's just trying to drum up a bit of media support before it all goes to shit again so he can point towards "just a few weeks ago, when everyone was saying how I turned it around".

It's what us internet folk call fishing for likes.

I think he's just musing on his future legacy. He loves to talk.

Wonder if he got us into the champions league and won us a trophy he'd consider walking away. His stock would still be high. He clearly isn't the biggest fan of how the club handle transfers.

If a decent offer came along for one of the bigger clubs he wouldn't hesitate. He's to far up his own arse to turn anything down that would massage his own ego, ask his fecking wife (ex).

Just reads like he's being reflective, as it's his 100th PL game at the weekend. Nothing weird there at all.

I have to hold up my hands (in much the same way as he does when they score) and say he's turned it around. They look like top 4 material now. We need to improve to keep ahaead of them.

Played well enough against Chelsea in the league cup but I'll still wait for them to get through their coming run of matches before proclaiming them back quite yet

It's not like he has a fantastic transfer record at Liverpool.

Oh look, there's Pexbo having another dig at Rodgers.

He's a nob, you must be able to see that? Everything that comes out of his mouth is bollocks.

The funny thing is that we all know how badly it's going to end for him with you, even you do, yet because he's your current manager you have some sort of weird faith in him and forgive him for being a bit of a nob. Because he's your nob. Exactly the same situation with me and Van Gaal, he's my nob.
