Doesn't matter what permutations I try to work out, I just cannot see us coping with that schedule. Especially as we need to stay in Europa for our backup CL spot.

Or put another way, I cannot see us coping without 1 or 2 more new faces this window. At the barest minimum we need Origi back. For a bigger safety net we need to put in a serious bid for one of Lavezzi, Higuain, Benzema or Lacazette. And they seem like pipe dreams.

Otherwise the likes of Sterling, Henderson, Sturridge and Coutinho will pick up key injuries.

Well you'll never get him.

As for Higuain, he'd be very expensive and I can't envisage him functioning well in Rodgers' team. He's a natural goalscorer, but he's got a very poor work rate. If Rodgers is berating Balotelli for his lack of effort, then Higuain certainly doesn't fit the bill.

Lavezzi - he's mercurial, never really hit the heights of his Napoli days. You'd get more average games out of him than good.

Now, Lacazette is a real talent. And I'd imagine he's fairly attainable. Can't see any bigger clubs going for him. He and Sturridge as a front line would be a real handful.

The 4 names you talk about seem completely irrealistic. The only one who could theoretically move is Lavezzi and I was told he doesn't want to leave Paris cos he enjoys the lifestyle (and his salary) here, even though the club would like to move him on. He's also lost a bit of passion for football, not that interested, it was touted he might quit altogether soon.

There's no reason whatsoever Lacazette or Benz would move anywhere, let alone to Liverpool, this window. Don't know about Higuain's situation though.

To be fair, I think they could get Lacazette. I can't see any one of the big CL teams going for him, so Liverpool would be a fairly attractive proposition. That being said, if Dortmund do manage to turn it around and secure a CL spot, they should go for him. He'd be a great fit for a Klopp team and might remedy their lack of goals.

It won't last too long, they certainly won't have the finish they had last season. They picked up 41 from their last 16 games last year, if they did that again this year (they won't) it still wouldn't be enough to get into last years Top 4.

You only have to look at the fixtures above to know they will struggle once they start playing in Europe again.

I reckon they will finish 7-8th, those fixtures and the frequency will kill them.

Also Benzema? You probably have more chance of buying Suarez back than getting him. Think how insane a step down like that would be for him.

Ultimately, probably, I've said elsewhere that Lyon will probably cash out on him at the end of the season (which is what my Lyon supporting mates hope for, as they believe he's a decent player having a purple patch season which he won't keep up in the future), but I believe Dumbstar was talking about this window, and I don't think there's a chance in hell they'd get him.

Oh yeah, definitely not this window.

It's the most insane one of that list. Despite the circus that is Real, Benz is settled there and has been there for a little while now, he's first choice, suits their style perfectly, is very effective, is probably on a very nice salary and is living in a beautiful city playing for one of the top 3 clubs in the world.

Don't know what Dumbstar was thinking tbh.

Yep, he has earned his place there and looks comfortable, I can't really see a reason for Madrid to let him go because as you say, he suits them perfectly, especially if they didn't so many years ago when there were questions. Even then, if he were to go for some reason it certainly wouldn't be to fecking Liverpool.

People always seem to want Benzema replaced at Real Madrid. I'm not really sure why, he's perfect for them.

Crazy, just absolutely crazy. You lot to say that is sooo crazy. Di Maria took a bigger step down. From the same club. Where are your memories guys, honestly?

And he's currently playing in a lovely philosophy as a striker which is beyond even what he could have dreamed of in the Theatre of Dreams. ;)

He didn't play as a striker on Friday. Keep up.

Yeah, I did say pipe dream. The only reason I've mentioned those names are because of tenuous links from the worst sources (mostly the Metro )

According to the Metro we're looking to put a £63m bid in for Benz and Lacazette this window. As if. :(

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, speaking to BBC Sport: "I thought we had a number of opportunities - Raheem Sterling, Philippe Coutinho. If you assess it over two legs their goalkeeper has won them the tie. He is a world-class keeper.

"I thought tactically our pressing was very, very good. We created chances and gave them problems. Through to half time I don't think they had a shot on target. They are a top-class team and very competitive. This competition has allowed us to regain our identity. Now we have to move on.

"We gave the ball away cheaply for their goal and our line could have been better.

"We were better in every aspect of our game but we just couldn't get the big goals. Sometimes you have a barrier in your way and tonight and last week it was Courtois.

"We are very determined to get back in the Champions League places so we have to stay focused."

This is what happens if you replace suarez with Lambert and ballotelli though right.... Genius

Classic Mourinho by the way. He said live that he switches off the TV the minute Jamie 'Top top player' Redknapp appears on TV coz he can't stand the bloke's face.

Should he have replaced them with Sanchez and Di Maria?

Should he have replaced them with Sanchez and Di Maria?

Should have replaced them with someone who fits your system and style of play, like Remy or Berahino or any player who can press & offer real movement in the box. Balotelli was never going to fit into Brendan's way of playing.

It was ironic that Balotelli lost Ivanovic for the goal last night. He did warn Brendan that he doesn't do marking.

Watched the league cup games, personally think Rodgers talks some bollocks, but he has them playing very nice football, when watching the gash we've been served up with over the last few seasons I must admit to being envious of, last night gave as good as they got with half the player level Chelsea have at their disposal.

'I told him: 'you do now'' but the story didn't end there: Balo probably just chuckled and went off to fight another bib.

Spot on. That's why I said, and still say, that Falcao was not the right signing for us either when you were all laughing about signing him.

Alexis was the perfect solution, real disappointment that we didn't get him. Rémy would have been an alright alternative and it's laughable that we had no one to turn to once those fell through.

Shots fired

Andy Carroll has hit out at Brendan Rodgers for being two-faced ahead of West Ham United's clash with Liverpool on Saturday.

Carroll was at Liverpool when Rodgers replaced Kenny Dalglish in 2012, but did not feature in the new boss' plans and was sent on loan to Upton Park before sealing a permanent switch a year later.

And the 26-year-old striker says he lost respect the Northern Irishman after he was lied to over his role in the team - being told one thing face-to-face and the opposite on the phone.

“With Brendan Rodgers, there was a lot going on,” the England international told The Times.

“What he was saying to me and what was actually happening [were different things]. He was telling me one thing to my face, then I’d leave the training ground and he would ring me and tell me a completely different thing.

“He would say: ‘You’re going to play every week, you’re going to play every game up front with [Luis] Suárez’. I’d leave and get home and he would ring me and say: ‘Fulham and West Ham want you and I think it’s best you should go.’ I had just had a conversation with him 10 minutes ago. So I would go back and see him and he would say the opposite again.

“It was the same thing round and round and round. On phone calls, it was: ‘I think you should go.’ To my face it was: ‘You’ll start every week’. It was mixed messages. He was messing with my head. I lost respect for him, to be honest.

“Another example: I went to Hearts for the [Europa League qualifier]. I got up there. He said I was starting. I woke up in the morning and he came in and said: ‘I think you’ve got a hamstring problem, you’re not going to start.’ I said my hamstring was fine. He said I’d be on the bench. I got to the ground and I wasn’t even on the bench. I was the only one missing out.

“It was just messing me about. I was angry. I knew it was time to go. I thought I just want to play football. I didn’t need this. Under Brendan I knew I was never going to play, with what he was saying to me.

What the feck?

So that's why Sturridge keeps getting injured, "I think you've got a hamstring problem"... err, what?

:lol.d I've read the first one but he second one is something else.

"I think you're injured"

Amazing how Carrol managed to remain restraint. I'd have deck the fecking cnut if I was treated like this.

I couldn't care less about the Carroll stuff. At the end of the day Carroll actively wasted the opportunity he got at a big club. Rodgers came in, had a vision for the team and got rid asap. That's football - plenty of ex-players do this about managers.

Rodgers was proved right in that he created one of the best attacking sides this country had produced in recent years. He was too valuable to keep on the bench so cashing in was sensible.

That is all true.

No need to be an utter dick to the fella though.

It was dalglish that splashed £35 fecking million on him, not andy carroll. Take it out on that muppet not the player.
