no. But every match he seems to have the 'monkey of the fans' on his back. His every move is scrutinized...like it is the final decision. Last season weighs so heavily on him and the players....you can see that.

Here is the big fact....he will struggle against the spending power of the Big 3. Honestly..I think he has done OK. Wenger has gone down a bit....but Rodgers comparatively is still a novice....

I think Liverpool will regret it big time if they kick him out soon.
Huh? :wenger:

Premier league clubs' spending this summer for clubs who spent over £50m:

Manchester United: £145.5m
Liverpool: £117m
Chelsea: £88.5m
Arsenal: £78m
Southampton: £57.9m
Manchester City: £53m

Spending power isn't the problem. The problem is that they've spent it on crap.

A big problem is the wages they offer in comparison to the big 4 hence the reason they will struggle imo

They won't be spending like that again.

They could have used some of that £117m to cover top wages for a superstar or two for the next couple of seasons, at which point they would have hoped to have been benefitting from regular CL income. Instead they spent a shedload of money on a load of rubbish.

They won't be spending like that again.
Yeah of course, but the fact is that they had the cash to compete with the big boys this year. If they had got it right, then they could have grown their income enough to get a lot closer to us and the other couple of big spenders. As it is, they've fecked up massively and look more likely to fade back into mid-table :)

Edit: obviously what I've said completely ignores the question of whether or not any top quality players would have seriously considered joining them this summer...

I think our transfer business will look a fair bit better in a couple of months.

I find this to be a overused excuse.

According to this article there isn't a huge difference between Liverpool & Arsenal in terms of wages.
(2013-2014, so we don't include the shit-ton of players you've acquired this season, or our signings for that matter)

While United look to be paying way higher on their players, you have to keep in mind that we have loads of players who are in-between the first team and reserve team in terms of quality.
On that list you include a lot of players who are paid for a very low contribution in most fans eyes, compared to the idea that "we can't sign top players" it seems that most money goes to paying for half-decent backup/rotation quality.

Now it might be that Zaha doesn't have a huge wage packet, but a lot do have.
Young alone if rumors are to be true, is on 100k a week, which makes it 5,2m gbp, and Nani is rumored to be on 90 000, making his wages amount to 4,68m gbp.
2 players who we want(ed) to get rid off who weren't in our first XI plan and was acting more like backup players alone pick up 10 million gbp in wages a year.
Kagawa was on 80k, Rio on 100k.
Now my mind is starting to malfunction because of my ptsd, so i'll try to get to the point fast and as accurately as i can...

Here are Liverpools wages for this season.
Rickie Lambert is on 45 000, Balotelli is reportedly on 110 000.
Those two combined gives you 155k, now get rid of 1-3 fringe players like Assaidi (50k), Coates (50k) & Borini (60k), none of which serve them any use, and they would have a serious chance of acquiring a quality footballer in terms of wages, even if they were to let them go almost for free.
There are nowhere i can look at Iloris wages, but i doubt they are that low compared to the others, and is also a player they barely have any use for. Is he still rotting in the reserves?

With Moreno bought, did they really need to keep Jose Enrique around as a backup left-back who gets paid 65k a week? hardly.

Just on those players (excluding Enrique as he has some use) they are basically wasting 265k a week. Both clubs are "wasting money", but Liverpool are doing so on complete dross they have absolutely no use for. United can afford to waste the money at the moment, Liverpool just needs to be more smart about their use. It's not their lack of money mainly that is keeping them back from my perspective.

That said I can't say the numbers are necesserily 100% correct, but it paints a picture of how you can trim the squad for players you barely if ever use in order to get quality instead.

United after 17 games last season: 17 8 4 5 28-20 28
Liverpool after 17 games this season: 17 6 4 7 21-24 22

When you spend £100m you expect to be challenging for the title.

the wages will be the biggest hurdle for clubs other than United, Chelsea and City.

in spite of all the doomsayers, Rodgers will be alright for them.

combination of things has affected them this season. But if he stays calm, he will find his way.

Brendan Rodgers is an even bigger football genius than David Moyes

I agree if you look at the link above in Odegarrds post, the blue chip players are all on £100k plus a week these are your superstars we have 6 as do City and Chelsea. Liverpool have 1 maybe 2 if Balotelli is included in that I don't know his wages. That is a Big difference and having one great season is possible maybe stretching to a couple. But the law of averages say if you have the best weapons then you are going to do the most damage. And looking at wage bills the top 6 in highest to lowest it is City, Chelsea, United, Arsenal, Liverpool then Spurs and in reality that is how the league should be finishing.
It is hard to argue with money look how City and Chelsea have risen with investment and benefited from buying the best players around. Mourinho came into a team that had just lifted the European cup and has spent heavily adding to it, hence the reason they are up top of the pack along with City. We are currently closing that gap but couldn't have with out spending heavily.

Amen, we know that because we didn't use to be able, or willing, to match top wages!

But then we had SAF.

I don't know where you got those wage bills from but they are wrong.

So the genius subbed off Brad Jones for Mignolet early in the first half. Tactical brilliance.

Pexbo got them from link above in Odegarrds post

The latest has a lot of movement. United are out front now just ahead of City while Arsenal have moved ahead of Chelsea.

United
City
Arsenal
Chelsea

I'd be stunned if Arsenal are above Chelsea in wages Pexbo

Rodgers is addressing about 30 under-18s and his theme is the “Ten Commandments” that youngsters must heed if they are to have a chance of making it as Liverpool players. The scholars are rapt. Rodgers, who made his name in youth coaching at Reading and Chelsea, is in his element. “If I could, I would change the name on my door from ‘Manager’ to ‘Helper.’ That’s what I’ve done all my life. I will help you, if you’re willing to learn,” he tells them.

Helper Rodgers.....

The guy is as mad as a box of frogs

Not sure if this has been posted, but Darren Farley as Brendan Rodgers on mastermind

Brentan Rodgers has basically just admitted Steven Gerrard is like a God to him:

"It is almost an impossible task to find the words to appropriately sum up Steven Gerrard," said Rodgers.

"As a leader and as a man, he is probably incomparable to anyone I have ever worked with."

"This is an era where the word 'legend' is vastly overused, but in his case it actually doesn't do him justice.

I think his departure could mean Rodgers can now actually manage the team, things will no longer be complicated by his love for Gerrard or personal living arrangements.

Cringe.

My good god, Rodgers is unreal sometimes. Was he spouting as much shit when he was with other clubs or does he just know that scousers lap this shit up?

Maybe it was Rodgers who posted on RAWK wishing that Gerrard was his father...?
