We played O Shea everywhere.

Was about to say not quite, until I remembered this:

The difference between him and Moyes is that Moyes don't spout as much bullshit as he does and for good reasons, our fans don't lap it up like they do.

It's interesting how he manages his signings, they seem to go through players so fast, either because they are totally useless and awful signings to begin with - which raises questions in itself - or they don't fit Rodgers plans, even as squad players for whatever reason. Looking through the players who have come and gone, it's crazy to see how few of them from 12-13 still play regularly.

I think he's quite convincing in his interviews and the way he puts his points across. But you're right a lot of the time it's just smoke and mirrors and they're fans seem to gobble it all up, only for him to need more smoke and mirrors 7 days later.

Hit and miss: Liverpool signings under Brendan Rodgers
This is a quite good evaluation. What I would have changed is: Markovic to undecided (he's very young) and Lovren, Balotelli and Lambert to miss (all of them have been awful).

Even this Origi kid they bought has been underwhelming to say the least, it's like every transfer Rodgers is involved in, turns the player into shit.

I've seen him play quite a bit this season and he has done well in a shite Lille side.

Yeah and I'd change Toure to hit too. Couple other ones that people won't agree if I said them, so I won't.

He has been average in the league and alright in the Europa League. Honestly not the kind player that's going to be much of a help, he's too early in his development to leave now.

It's a bit shit when two of the three success signings are Moreno and Coutinho, two inconsistent players.

People need to pipe down with the "Oh but they lost Suarez"

2009/10 - Manchester United lost Ronaldo AND Tevez. Still won the league cup, came within a point of winning the league and would have won it if Antonio Valencia didn't fluff a one on one.

2013/14 - Spurs lose Gareth Bale. While not doing anything spectacular, it was the same old Spurs that we've become used to.

Hit and miss: Liverpool signings under Brendan Rodgers
This isn't just about Rodgers signings though, Liverpool's transfer records have been shit long before he arrived.

What game was that in?

Not just his Spurs quote... his quotes about not feeling sorry for unambitious Southampton is cringe-worthy as well.
The press should really throw those quotes back at him next time it comes around for them to play Spurs/Saints. Would be funny as hell watching him muster a response.

This is a quite good evaluation. What I would have changed is: Markovic to undecided (he's very young) and Lovren, Balotelli and Lambert to miss (all of them have been awful).

The article is about 6 weeks old. Id say almost every player they bought this summer has gone backwards since the end of October. Balotelli and lovren are definite misses now.

Gary Neville says Liverpool haven’t spent enough money to reclaim their place among European football’s elite.

The former Manchester United defender was discussing the Merseyside club’s failure to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League following Tuesday night’s disappointing draw with Basel.

And ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Old Trafford to face their bitter rivals on Super Sunday, he says the summer outlay of over £100million is small fry when you take into account the money they received for the sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona.

Another chance to see the action from the 2-2 draw between Manchester United and Liverpool from October 1992

He said: “They obviously sold Luis Suarez for £65m and spent (around) £100m on five or six players, so they spent £40m. That’s not even touching the sides of what the big European teams do, and are spending when they’re really going for it.

“When you’re talking about a big club and Liverpool winning European Cups over the last 30 years, building a new 65,000-seater stadium; £40m net is not ‘going for it'.”

Brendan Rodgers paid large fees for Adam Lallana, Emre Can, Alberto Moreno, Lazar Markovic, and the injured Mario Balotelli over the summer, but none of those players started against Basel.

And while Neville says the manager must take responsibility for the signings, he says Rodgers hasn’t been given the budget that many of his rivals, including Louis van Gaal, have enjoyed.

He added: “Man United have done it, City have done it, Chelsea have done it, Real Madrid will do it.

“If you want to go big, go big, and that’s not big! So the idea that he’s spent a lot of money in great club terms, he’s not. He’s spent £40m.

“They took a star off Brendan Rodgers and he’s got five in return and he’s obviously picked them so he has to take responsibility for that. And he’ll accept that I’m sure.

“Big is going to sign a player for £80m. He hasn’t gone big; he’s touched the sides a little bit. The net spend is £40m, and I don’t see that as big net spend for Liverpool Football Club.

“If they measure themselves in terms of a club winning the Champions League, then they need to spend like one. Then they’ve got to enter that level and that level is not £40m net spend.”

Like anyone would be crazy enough to give him clean 140m. to spend.

It's his Spurs quote that is damning.

Not just his Spurs quote... his quotes about not feeling sorry for unambitious Southampton is cringe-worthy as well.

Also the way he said Louis van Gaal would struggle in the premier league acting as if he wouldn't. He had absolutely no respect for Louis van Gaal's credentials and ability when he made that statement and overrated his own, if we had injuries more like Liverpool then Rodgers' statement would be even more stupid.

Neville strikes again! It is amazing how unbelievably stupid he looks whe he goes into these full defenses for British players/managers.

In some parts he sounds like he is defending Rodgers and poking Liverpool. Also if they gonna mention net spend,i would also like to know, how big impact wage funds suffered for selling one and buying X players.

Like anyone would be crazy enough to give him clean 140m. to spend.

Where does G.Nev expect the money to come from? Are the Red Sox meant to hand Liverpool a blank cheque book or something? It's all very well saying £40m isn't enough to add to the Suarez money if you want to follow that argument, but his answer seems to be simply that "Rodgers should get more to spend" - how? I admit to not knowing anything about the state of Liverpool's accounts, but my guess is the reason they don't spend like the sugar daddy clubs, Real, Barca and now ourselves, is maybe because they don't have that much money to spend like that...?

Add to that the budgeting for turning Anfield into a significantly larger stadium than it is now (which again I'm guessing the club has to pay for) then I'm not seeing much insight here from Neville based on any sort of reality.

“Man United have done it, City have done it, Chelsea have done it, Real Madrid will do it.

“If they measure themselves in terms of a club winning the Champions League, then they need to spend like one. Then they’ve got to enter that level and that level is not £40m net spend.”

Are there any pundits in football that give any consideration to where money for spending-sprees actually comes from? Surely they have to be able to identify that things are different for clubs that earn their own money to invest? Are sugar daddy arrangements meant to be considered the norm now or something? Is it just assumed now that to be a elite European club, then the owner will pump in hundreds of millions of their own money every transfer window? Or would a Leeds-like scenario be better, just spend and spend and spend and hope it magically gets paid for?

There does seem to be widespread difficulty by many football pundits/commentators/hacks to identify the difference between clubs like us or Liverpool spending our earned money within the appropriate budget vs. a sugar daddy club, so I suppose anything on finance in football shouldn't surprise me any more, but reading that a club like Liverpool haven't given the manager enough money compared to sugar daddy clubs or much bigger clubs like Real, Barca and ourselves isn't even schoolboy stuff.
