Breel Embolo | Signed for Schalke

Shame if he's going to Schalke. Probably not the best club to go to even for his development.

Good, I saw nothing in him that we dont already have.
Sane was the RW i wish we went for.

@bucky will have a meltdown

Not really. It's a decent move for his career. IMO Gladbach would have been better for him though. It will be a lot more difficult to get him in a few years time, if he continues his development, which I expect him to do. I was hoping that we would secure him early, but it's probably best for him and us. Even if we would have signed him, loaning him to a Bundesliga club would have been logical. Hopefully it means we are going to sign players, who are further ahead in their development or the finished product already.

First time he's been on the big stage this Euros - and doesn't look ready for it yet. Think a move to a club like Schalke will be a good test for him.

See where he is after 2 seasons.

I wanted this guy, but he looked really bad in the Euros. Basically he struggles to control the ball.

I guess with Schalke signing him Sane will be gone this summer, unfortunately most likely he'll end up at City.

Probably we're gonna go for that french kid from Bordeaux.

I'm genuinely confused why people think buying Embolo would halt or stall Rashford's development. Strangest of logic that.

I'm more confused by those who think we should buy him and loan him out until he reaches his said potential so that we don't have to pay £45m for in a couple of years.

But it was like 1 sentence long. It was as if he mentioned just so he can say "I told you United were in for him" if United did sign him. I very much doubt it was his information.

It was there, which is the important thing, no?

Wow. I don't visit this thread for a few days and "discussions" like that happen.

It would probably stall Embolo's development more than anything else, as he wouldn't play enough to improve with Rashford, Lingard, et al already in the equation.

I was put off during the last switz game.
Gets tackled quite high up the pitch.
Switz win ball back 2 seconds later.
He walks forward while switz players further down the field charge forward.

Idk, just got the feeling hes a lazy shit.

Not sure whether to be annoyed we have missed out or not bothered as its early in the window yet and there must be other targets we are in with a better chance of signing. Surely?

I have to say that I only saw him in euros and YouTube and I was kinda worried that he may actually come here .... Thank God, we Dodged a bullet here

He's a very highly rated prospect and a lot of people on here rate him really highly but i've got to say, this isnt one where if it doesnt happen i'll be disappointed and frustrated. Its not like missing out on Kroos. He's not a player that really excites me.

If that's going to be the reasoning, we might as well stop pursuing promising teenagers altogether. Martial was brought in last year more with an eye to the future, but he's pretty much made himself first team material. Memphis came in with a bigger rep and has stalled quite a bit. Talent mixed with the ethic will always find a way to play more games. He's got the talent (although I understand many will dispute that as well) and if he has the work ethic, game time will really not be a problem.

The same logic could have been used for Bailly really. He's only 22, but his introduction might see game time for TFM reduced as well.

What is it with the snotty attitude of the German twitter guys.

What's snotty about that? The reporter he linked literally mentions that Embolo turned down United and decided to join Schalke and if you want to sign someone, but he turns you down that's usually not good news.

I haven't see enough of him to care during the Euros. Thought he looked energetic and that's about it.

How ridiculous. We already have an abundance of youth who are challenging established veteran players for playing time. Why exacerbate the situation by adding yet another who would probably not see the light of day under Mourinho any way.

It's a good move for him, should start most games and continue his development.

Not really. The only young player who has done that is Martial and more recently Rashford. Even in Martial's case, he was competing against Memphis. The others haven't even come close to challenging other established players. Memphis has struggled. Januzaj has not been anywhere close to the first team and Pereira is further back. Wilson is still finding his feet. If Embolo were to sign, his major competition would be Young and Lingard and I fancy him over the other two. His development would not get stalled and neither would Rashford's.

And why would he not see the light of day under Mourinho ? He would have been the one to approve it had he joined.

Well you said it. Martial and Rashford are already established which seems to completely undercut the need for yet another teenager. We also have Lingard and will be buying Mikhitarian and possibly others so there really is no need for Embolo.

Agreed. He's seems a good talent, but he'd be lost at United right now.

He was never going to come here at that price. Consider: Shaw was a boyhood Chelsea fan but:

"If we pay to a 19-year-old boy what we were being asked for, to sign Luke Shaw, we are dead," Mourinho said. "We would have killed our stability with financial fair play and killed the stability in our dressing room."

- Mourinho explains why he vetoed a £25 million move to Chelsea

That was after Shaw had an entire season playing left back in the Premiership. So who'd believe Mourinho would sign Embolo for £20 million, who had no form at all at the highest competitive level.

He just said that because he didn't get his man.

What @Cassidy said (remember Mourinho defense on Falcao recruit? Mourinho wants different forward but defended the player he had in hand).

Also Chelsea is bound by FFP. Mourinho needed other signings too so couldn't throw the money into a left back like us. We have the British pride and financial infrastructure to buy Shaw and in long run make money out of his name and cover the fee. Chelsea can't compete in that aspect.

Shit got worse for Mourinho and Chelsea as their DoF refused Mourinho request and signed his own players! That's the story even Chelsea fans admitted.

Also Mourinho was not really afforded the long term role at Chelsea by that kind of approach from the DoF/ board at Chelsea. Here at United, he is rumored to have full power in transfer, and we know our board prefer a long term planning approach.

That would partly explain why what he said would be a long-term stay turned anything but.

I am glad we did not get him, he is very raw, not that different from Rashford in terms of where he is on the skill level right now. Not something we need. We need a player that is at least somewhat established.

Although as a type of player he is, i think he is something that Joe might want, a player who can play the one upfront, fast and mobile. Ibra if he will sign is not like that, not just because the lack of speed, as the only forward he does not really feel good. It's especially evident in his dire Sweden performances. With PSG it's more of free role striker or even a false 9 for hi. Embolo is a classic CF, Drogba style.

Give it 2-3 years and we will be cursing our luck that we didn't get him. That is two players now that have said we have stalled on signing them, if we are interested and want them, why are we not making a move.

Embolo has all the attributes to be a top player. He's raw at the moment but he will develop into a top player, he's quick and strong with an eye for goal who also has good dribbling skills. Wouldn't be surprised to see him join Bayern in a few years time from Schalke.
