Iirc, he was on the scene and dubbed one of the best youngsters to watch for about 2 years ago. Many were also raving about him and his potential. However, I don't know if many are watching him regularly since then.

He really looks strong physically, the technique is there, also what is most important is that he seems to have a decent football brain based on his link up plays and decision making( based on YouTube clips though for me) for the final ball to his team mates. He seems not those that hog or run with the ball until he lose the ball.

He still looks raw, of course. But, thing is that the price is good to have him if Mourinho wants to have him. The potential is there and let's leave the decision to the coach and scouts that has more ideas then us that knows him based on a couple clips of YouTube and 30min of Euro match.

People just won't learn. You can't rate a young player based on a 15min cameo with a team who can't really dominate a 10-men team. He is surely a great talent but as I said before, still very raw and would need much more work than Martial for example. To expect anything else would be naive. He is a great talent but no-one can really say how high his ceiling is. Buying young players is always a big risk.

BTW, no one else mentioned us being interested except 20minutes.

3 years ago, actually - young player of the year in Suisse Superleague

I watched the Suisse French broadcast and there was never any mention of his link to United. I do find it remarkable how quickly fans have endeared themselves to the player, rarely in the starting lineup but unquestionably the most popular player among fans

But this one really isn't. He will cost 15 million pounds. Of course nobody is going to expect to be good as Martial who could cost 4 times as much. 15 million pounds for a talent as Embolo is a very very low risk deal.

Any idea why the Swiss fans like him so much?

How can you not like this face?

Does anyone think if we sign him that means we won't be getting Lozano?

Old enough to recognise between them who was more talented. Messi was irrepressible at that age and often time he got kicked maliciously as that was the only way he could be stopped. He was specifically targeted and kicked by a very good Chelsea team during the 2006 UCL quarter final game as he kept tormenting them resulting in the sending off of Del Horno? He was mostly held back by injuries during those early years and even at that time he kept churning out ridiculous numbers that at 20 he was already in the top three in the world despite an injury plagued season.
At no time was Rooney rated to have more potential than Messi by the larger footballing world except the British media.

At 18 Rooney was rated at least as highly as Messi was at 18. After Rooney's debut in the Champions League, which came after his performances at Euro 2004, Kaka said that Rooney could go on to become the 'best player ever'. How can Messi have been more highly rated than that?

I would stay away from him. Not a single move or a single goal I've seen from YouTube videos has convinced me he's even decent enough. Bet he'd be on a loan straight away before getting sold after a couple of seasons.

10\10 analysis, would read again.

You're only 'allowed' to praise transfer targets based on limited viewing.
You can't criticise them (or state that you just aren't impressed) without being ridiculed.

A few years ago, you'd have been criticized for saying you didn't think Powell was anything special or would amount to much. The majority of hyped youngsters become nothing special. That's just the reality of it. There's more chance of a hyped youngster being a let down than a success.

You are wasting your 10 posts per day.

Lozano is primarily a left winger is he not? I think we'll probably scout him for one more year before deciding if we should make a move on him.

It was less a comment on his development rather than people having extreme expectations for young players in general

He's a huge talent, and as it stands right now, probably bigger than Shakiri or Xhaka at that age. He seems to be very level headed too which people like

Of course, not all the signings will be a success. Even experienced managers will know this. Who thought Martial would be a success? You have to go with who you think will be a success. Even the legendary SAF got t a lot wrong.

As for Embolo and Rashford won't play together? We forget that we will be in 4 competitions next year, with only 1 being the main competition we will concentrate on, the PL. So, you can see Mourinho giving a lot of experience to the younger players in the Europa league & the league cup. By the time the FA cup comes about, we'll have a good go at it , with new players more embedded into the squad.

There is no point trying to judge his ability based on some youtube clips (unless it covers every touch in a particular match) or playing for National team.

All the youtube scouts who have already made up their mind on his technical level will be the same people who will moan about him after every single poor performance (If we sign him).

Touches vs Albania.

Looks quite raw IMHO, tried out some key passes some of which went though and others intercepted. He can hold the ball so that's a plus. Overall, potential is there to make one of the wings his own, but needs the right manager and game time to realize it. He'll get that at United.

I believe he has also recently come back from injury, and was also playing out of position in this game.
He is certainly a player with a lot of talent, would be a good signing for us IMO

Mourinho loves the league cup, he uses it as a way to demonstrate winning mentality and celebrates it like its winning the champions league, it won't be the kids like a fergie match.

Martial on the and left and Embolo on the right would make our attack unpredictable. Want!

He's been briefing that is what exactly he will do, to give the young players game time.

That would be great news then, providing they don't throw him under the bus, winning the league cup is obviously not particularly important so if we can get minutes to continue the development of the young ones while having a strong league campaign its the best of both worlds.

Seems like we're pretty obviously not in for him, doesn't it?

Please do elaborate.

Swiss press have reported it, German press have reported it, Leipzig have signed another player in his position instead. That no English source has reported it makes it more likely instead of less likely, now all we need is Ballbag to deny it and then I will be 100% certain.

One Swiss source has reported it. That lead to one German regional paper, who no one knows where they actually got their info from (i.e. it most likely came from the original Swiss report), to report it and then? Nothing.

There's been nothing in the English press whatsoever (I agree that they're not the best, but when something actually happens they get wind of it sooner or later), and as far as I'm aware nothing in the German or Swiss press beside two stories by papers of questionable reliability.

This just doesn't smell like a transfer.

I am quite excited at the direction of our buys.

As many others have mentioned we're buying young and promising or at least seem to be considering a lot of players in that bracket.

If this guy has half the potential of Martial and his work rate, we'd be in for a treat.

I personally follow the United Stand on youtube and they are a no-nonsense channel. The main guy, Mark, has come out today and said we've signed him but it will happen after Suisse go out of the Euros and he has a break.

I hope it's true and quite looking forward to seeing him at OT next season.

Not sure what this means for Memphis though.

With young players and potential, we'll be looking at a gamble. Its just is it a worthy (with all the info. form from all the scout reports and the talent-spot-eye of the manager) one or not?

With him, Embolo, I think there are certain quality that he would be a good purchase for us. Some here said that he looks like a lukaku with better technique, so, with that in mind, it's already a good purchase.

The potential is there, whose to say that he won't be a success like Martial last season. We, fans, won't know until he is purchased and play (give him a year playing chance and not a match chance). It's a catch 22 really. Buy him and let him play, then you'll know if he's gold or piece of donkey shite. Otherwise, you'll never know if he's really good enough.

So, is he a worthy gamble? Well, The physics is there (at least we know that he won't get bully every 5 seconds), the technique is there (at least some on here said that he looks better or at worse on par with lukaku), the talent is there too albeit still raw. I'll just leave to the scout and manager to decide.

With all being said, the opinion is from the few clips of YouTube I watched. I'm no Embolo expert at all. Really, if the club buy him, I'm ok and will glad to see how he develops. People try so hard to say that he's crap and all that, we should just leave it to the scout and people who profession is to judge on that. The fan of course can express their concern and view on players that we link with and potentially being purchased. However, some on here are very eager to write such player off with the expression of (only saw him 30mins and a few clips of YouTube)

Embolo and Renato Sanches has similar qualities. Outstanding physical attributes from a very young age. Both judging by interviews seems to be level headed, ambitious and willing to learn from others to become better. That's a very good start.

Taking the step from your home country and a smaller club to a word wide recognized institution like United will quite fast show if they have what it takes or not. Look at Memphis, talented but maybe not mentally ready yet. Another example is Ando, he had everything you could expect from a young talent but was unlucky with injuries, on top of that his determination was questionable.

If our scouts and Mou thinks it worth to take a shot at this guy then I'm all for it.

If we are trying to sigh Embolo, then why not Mane? He knows the league, fast, effective, can play on the right and through the middle, and works hard for the team. All similar qualities and I believe Mane is a better player.

Probably the fee. Southampton tend to overvalue their players and I could see them asking for north of 35 million for Mane. Whereas we can get Embolo for 20 million euros which is a steal in today's market.

Price? Easier deal?, any way who's to say Embolo is been bought (if he is at all) for the first place right wing position?

He's five years older and he would cost more. Not to mention his ceiling is not as high as Embolo's in my opinion.

Have any reliable sources been running with this story or is it just speculation and a few small stories at the moment?

All this waiting around is making me get antsy another club is going to enter the race. Get it done Woody FFS!!

If I'm not mistaken, the sources who originally ran with the story usually never have scoops and wouldn't put themselves out in the open like that without being ITK.

I've seen alot people say he can play on the right but I don't see it personally, atleast not on a consistent basis. With his frame he lacks that explosiveness and speed to play wide. I see him as a Lukaku type of striker. A big CF holding up the ball and or running the channels in behind.
