Television Breaking Bad

The "safe" ending held it back from being truly exceptional IMO. It wasn't "true to the characters" either. True to the characters would've seen it end like Ozymandias. It was true to the writers and fans aggrandizing of Walt.

That's where I felt it was let down a little. Of the endings of the big 3, it's behind both The Wire & The Sopranos.

That said, it was still a solid 8 - Very, very good. There was nothing wrong with it. It just wasn't exceptional.

Both of their final season partially suck though. But they have higher highs.....in fact their heights at like Everest compared to Breaking Bads Ben Nevis.

Yeah, it's probably a little more disappointing to those of us who didn't love it because the run in was so stellar. It really looked like it was going to buck the trend and have a perfect last season.

My main feeling was that it ended like a lesser show, or worse, a sitcom, in feeling it needed to tie things up for an expectant audience. A horse by committee etc etc.

It was on a hiding to nothing in that respect I suppose though.

I would have loved it if it had ended with Ozymandias but I don't think BB was ever a show that could end like that. It always had a strong dose of pulp since the beginning and went for definitive endings. I think the arc they went for the final episode was along the expected lines and correct IMO. Only issue was the execution, it all fell a bit flat after Walt's meeting with Skylar. His two confrontations with the two villains needed to be smarter and more elaborate.

I think it says something about the overall standard of the show that we were disappointed it wasn't exceptional like we had come to expect. Something merely very good like the finale was seen as a let down, which is very impressive in the wider view of things.

This is excellent:

You, are not the guy. You're not capable of being the guy. I had a guy, but now I don't. You, are not the guy.

They wrote themselves into a corner with the opening to the 5th season with the gun. Always a mistake doing something like that when you don't know how to tie it in.

They always did that since the beginning of the series. S2 was the only one I think they said they knew how they wanted to end.

It is a shame it was the first time they could not find a clever way out

The shows following is bigger now than ever, Vince Gilligan and AMC should seriously cash in on this goldmine they are sitting on, there is so much unfinished business between Walt/Jessie + Walt and his family that needs addressing, they would be stupid not to do it

Or smart not to. It will ruin the legacy of the TV show. Americans have a habbit of ruining great shows by stretching it too much

It does tend to get overrated though. At least by people I know anyway.

It's a vicious cycle. Someone watches the show and wonders why so many people haven't seen it, so they continually tell everyone they meet that they should watch it, which puts people off from watching it, which makes people who have seen it wonder why so many people haven't watched it, which makes them continually...

People call it the best tv show ever. Me personally, i prefer GoT.

The articles today suggesting a possible movie make me happy! I watched every episode over about 2 weeks recently and I thought it was a fantastic show.
I suppose they were very clever in not actually confirming that he died - as Bryan Cranston has said himself today, "you never actually saw a bag zip up".
So it could be returning in movie form!

If they carried it on i'm sure they would make it worth watching but I think it would ruin it's reputation. Best TV show i've ever watched and I felt the ending was absolutely perfect.

For me, the best TV show ever is The Wire. I haven't watched GoT yet, but I will have high expectations when I eventually start watching it.

As for Breaking Bad, it is quite good. Not the best ever though.

I feel the same about the Wire. I watched three seasons and lost interest in the fourth. Breaking Bad, Sopranos, Six Feet Under and even Oz are higher on my list.

How can people call GOT the best ever when its not even completed? They could feck it up like they did Dexter. Btw Hannibal is one of the best things on tv right now.
