Should be careful with his tackling.

However he's a very interesting talent and all honestly we should think about developing him rather the likes of Young and Shaw who are hopeless cases.

He should be the starter on the left, there is no debate anymore. He may have games where he will struggle but we need to trust him.

Cannot help but like him a lot.
Hope he's the long term lb we are so desperate for. Here's to hoping he doesn't pop up with some outside of the field bs jlingz style.

Love this lad, he's a bit erratic at times but I'll put that down to youthful exuberance. I hope Young is ready to take a back seat and help Williams bed in as his replacement in the squad.

People talk about this guy the same way people talked about Luke Shaw five years ago.

I'm not saying that his kid doesn't have potential, but people need to remember not to get too excited about a player, because 9 time sout of ten it end sin disappointment.

He has fantastic engine, should have scored the goal.

What a load of crap

shaw WAS that talented, then his leg snapped.

Williams is a different man, and he looks fantastic. absolutely love the kid, when did any of our fullbacks make a lung bursting run in the 80th+ minute to score or assist a goal?

the longer it went the better he looked. He was top class today.

He's basically Rafael.
Pretty accurate assessment. He's non stop. A nice change to Shaw and Young doing and trying absolutely nothing on that side. Forgot what a full back over lap looked like to be honest.

There's absolutely zero reason why Ashley Young should be starting in front of Williams. He's offers absolutely nothing over this kid. Young shouldn't be anywhere near a starter for us anymore.

Definitely better than Young. Though admittedly, that's not a particularly high standard.

Think the praise for him today is a bit exaggerated. He was alright. Obviously I’m the context of him being 19 and making his debut, he deserves extra credit though. But strip away the emotion of it, don’t think he was that special.

Is there anything more boring than reading posters lecture others on not being “getting excited” about young players?

Following football is a hobby. What the bloody hell else do you think people should do when they watch it?

Definitely an upgrade on Young. Had a great game today. Won pretty much every 1v1 situation and didn't get caught out of position as well. Was also willing to make runs forward.

great full debut, he's a bit of a nutter and red card waiting to happen at times, but would rather see him than Young. Shaw will need to pull his finger out when fit.

Great full debut, he should be starting ahead of Young from now on, offers far much more going forward and looks pretty good defensively for a such a young player. Having someone of Maguire's experience alongside him will help him develop too.

A decent performance. Don't think it was much better than Young's best games, but we should stick with him. There's room for improvement unlike with Young.

Played very well but he needs to control himself a bit. He should be playing ahead of Young for sure and who knows where Luke Shaw is.

Finally showed what he is capable going forward too , still more to come and his fiery side of the game does remind a little bit of Rafael.

He terrifies me. Good player but scary to watch.

i get this haha! Didn’t fancy him to survive once booked. But I love the character he has. Starting to look like we have some future leaders now ... Maguire, McTominay and him. He’s got that about him.

 That's still a compliment. If on his first season he can be as good as Young, it is more than good enough.

He is really impressive. His style is exactly what we need.

Williams seems more and more settled into the team with every game. I had some doubts if he is composed enough to play in a high tempo PL game but he did extremely well, should be played instead of Young more often.

One positive with him looking like he can hold his own on the first team is that for the first time, Shaw will have something to think about. He surely must look at Williams's sheer drive and determination and realise that he cant come back into the team his usual podgy, casual self.

If Shaw were to rediscover that youthful exuberance which he used to have we would actually have options at left back.

He is pretty good for a 19 years old. I would let him develop in his own pace. Both Shaw and Young should still be ahead of him in this season.

Why? Young is actually quite bad.

The fact he’s naturally right footed is a bit irksome but he’s got a great platform for the rest of the season here. Cement that spot.

Because it is how it should be. He will have his game time in easier games.

Young just did have a decent game.

Why though? Young is awful. I'd rather give Brandon a run.

I just told you why...

No you didn't. You just said because that's why it should be. I've no idea what you've based that on.

Williams wasn't tested much today, granted, but that was the best LB performance we've had all season.

Because I feel that Williams is not ready for the whole season yet.

The experience of young will be vital in some games and this season. And, I hope he moves on next season and we will have good options with Shaw and Williams by then.

Experience is thrown around way too often as a blanket positive. I'd rather go on ability.

Young is an absolute liability in the side.

Experience is vital for any type of defender. Like I said, he will be getting some game time here and there this season to develop and prepare more.

All of this vital experience Young has doesn't seem to be helping him though, that's my point.

Experience is important, of course. But someone shouldn't get in the team on that alone.

It doesn't matter anyway. Hopefully this is the start of a run for Williams. He can only benefit from stiffer tests in the future.

He is a smart player even the passes he misplaced there was very good intent. Still need to see evidence of his game going forward
