With Shaw almost guaranteed to miss months every season with injury we really shouldn’t be asking this lad to fill in at LB - he’s young so we shouldn’t be drawing conclusions but he offers nothing on that side.

Not a LB and never will be.

People can talk about Irwin being a good right-footed LB, but in those days we played with out and out wingers who hugged the touch line. Brandon just gets in Rashford’s way.

I like his attitude but to be brutally honest he is not good enough
Same here. I really like his mentality and desire. But when you compare him to Alphonso Davies who is around the same age and level of experience and exposure, you can see the huge gap.

To be fair to him, Rashford was AWOL the entire game. Also he prefers right back which he has trained for most of his recent past. Hopefully he can he used as cover for AWB next year.

He's been given a free slack because he's from the academy, but he needs to get better. The contract we just gave him is not going to help for sure, Im not even sold he'll make a career at premier league level, he plays with real tenacity but he seems naive, gets caught out of position easily.

He has no talent whatsoever, just tries winning fouls by acting like an idiot. He can't defend and is useless going forward.

Since he's from the academy he will be giving a free ride but he just isn't good enough and never will be.

Laird is a better RB

He needs to go on loan in championship and then we will see. For now he is not good enough in anything. Players can't bought me with passion or how nice lads are they.
Williams can't defend and in attack despite his good technique he doesn't offer much. Mainly because he doesn't know when to do something and where to position himself.
Anyway, we need a new fb to cover for Shaw.

The championship?

The championship?

Not sure if he'd get a PL loan tbh. Secondly, a top end Championship club trying to win all/most of their games is probably better for his development than a relegation scrap at the bottom of PL.

I think there’s some harsh criticism, this is his first season and he’s been thrust in as an important player because of Shaw’s lack of form/fitness. He has done pretty well.

He can be a Phil Neville giving us fullback cover for both sides.

Not yet even close to being proven. Let's see how he does when he gets a run in the team.
And neither is Williams. I give the edge to Laird in terms of technique. He has the edge in physicality and I give the edge to Laird in terms of finding players in the box.

There is no point in preferring Williams over Laird for RB as of this moment. Williams could prove to be better, but there is no reason to prefer him right now.

He’s played LB consistently for over 3 years, so no he hasn’t trained at RB for most of his recent past at all.

He’s actually barely ever played RB ever.

Still a little bit raw and he may have played loads at left back but it doesn't suit him as hes a mainly right footed player. Not playing the blame game but if a fit Shaw was playing tonight i don't think either goal would have been conceded.

Stop your exaggeration. He obviously has talent. Whether it is good enough for the PL and this level remains to be seen. Again, he isn't useless going forward and he can defend - maybe not as good as we hope he will.

He isn't getting a free ride because he is from the academy. People are being patient with him (and rightly so) because he is young and has been asked to play a starting 11 role, something he isn't clearly ready for. Expecting him to perform as a top 4 LB suddenly because of injuries in our squad is being naive. At least the kid has heart and is giving it his all - that's all we can ask for at this point.

His long-term future remains to be seen.

The first goal wasn’t good enough from him but I can understand that he‘s still in learning process. I thought he had a better game than Bissaka today. I think we should convert him as a right back and compete with Bissaka, to me both him and Bissaka have similar weakness which is their defending awareness and composure when in possession. I feel like playing them on each side (left & right) regularly is just not going to help our centre back. Sign 24 years old or older or someone who is more matured in the game as a left back with left foot to compete with Shaw.

Yeah. Plus he is still very very young so he still has time to turn into a really good fullback.

He's learning his trade and learning it fast. Considering his young age he's doing considerably well. Plays with a big heart, fantastic attitude on the pitch. Could well turn out to be a real gem. People critisizing him should be locked up imho!

When it's a semi-final of a European competition, that performance can't be considered as 'doing well'. You can justify it by saying that he's young and he'll get better but to say that he played well is just blind acceptance. That level is just not good enough and the only mitigation is that he is very young and is possibly playing out of position.

He was pretty terrible, majority of the danger came down his side again. That said, he's not a left back. There ae reports he'll be moved to back up AWB and we'll sign a LB to challenge shaw. He'll be better in attack on the right.

I’ve concluded that he’s Brandon’s dad. Just read this thread. He even thinks he’s better than Shaw.
I was going with Grandad. I can’t decide if he is truly serious or if he is just trolling. A lot of it is just absolute nonsense. Example “outstanding”

He was alright in parts of the game but he has no clue what to do in attack and his defending ain’t that much better. Was in the right place a few times early on to clear away some cross field passes but after his rolling around crying histrionics he must have tired himself out because from 70 mins on he was awful. I knew if anything was going to happen it was going to come down his side.

Was’t great on the first goal either.

Bad game and I fecking hate his playacting. Man up Brandon wtf is that? Are you a Barca/Real youth dive product?
Ye picked up on that. There was one incident especially in the second half that annoyed me. The club needs to stamp that out of the lad. I think Williams is a back up RB at best for the club

Was it the one where he got the tiniest tap on his ankle and started holding his face?

He is young and raw and still has many years to develop. If people are holding out for him to be first choice LB over Shaw right at this moment then they will be disappointed.

Won't judge him on tonight, but he is raw as feck. Needs some more time to develop.

He would have learnt a lot this season, and I think he will only get better each season from here. He's not played as well after lockdown as he did before, but Rashford has been a shadow of his pre back injury self, and I lost count of the number of times he overlapped Rashford, Rashford cut inside and lost the ball. He still needs a bit more awareness around his own penalty area, and stop those crosses coming in, but in a way I can understand not putting your body in the way sometimes as if the ball strikes your arm you may be giving a penalty away. AWB needs to learn how to keep his concentration as well.

He seems absolutely shot of fitness, I've noticed in the past 2-3 games when we've lost the ball in the final 3rd and he's overlapped, earlier on in the season he'd turn back and sprint back, now he was just jogging back.

Still don't think he'll make it here as a LB and to be earning the money he is, is once again poor negotiations from whoever is in control of them.

I like him but he has got to stop losing his man or running to the wrong player. He looks overplayed and like hes gone from loving being a Man Utd player to just wanting the season to be over.

I don't want to write him off just yet, he has talent and it's only his first season. He does need to improve in a lot of areas which I think he can.
