Borussia Dortmund 15/16

Weidenfeller has been looking bereft of confidence for a while now, even going back to last year. Remember his performance in the CL against Juve? Horrendous goalkeeping.

Yes definitely it's not something that surfaced just this season. He was a security risk pretty through all of last season as well and rightfully lost his starting place to Langerak who unfortunately wasn't that much better either. It's a good thing that they have Bürki now.

I was watching them play against Munchen Gladbach last week and they looked good, however i thought some of the defending was absolutely comical. There was one goal i think it was the 3rd or 4th where a thru ball went over the halfway line and the defence was so high up the left back of BMG was in the dortmund half! Reus simply ran clear and squared it for Mikhtaryan (sp?) good performance but opposition looked gash despite their good season last year.

Well they were missing both their starting CBs and most Bundesliga teams don't have the squad depth to compensate for that. Still I also expected them to do better they were woefully passive at times and seemed to just admire Dortmund playing some nice football.

Few questions on Dortmund's new manager:
  1. Are there many significant differences in terms of playing style between Klopp and Tuchel? I read they had 59% possession in the Bundesliga last weekend, is that a sign of things to come?
  2. Is he idealistic akin to Pep, Bielsa, Klopp and van Gaal in the past or is he more pragmatic in the Ferguson, Mourinho and Ancelotti mould?

I think he is quite pragmatic and flexible. For example he likes to challenge his players using different pitch dimensions and shapes in training to force players getting used to different ways of playing. Playing a diamond shaped pitch to eliminate straight lines on the flanks and force diagonal moves and passes or playing a short but wide pitch to make more use of width. Often changes formations to adapt to opponents or situations. He has a scientific approach to developing the game.

He wants his team to win the ball back early with aggressive pressing but keeping possession is not an objective as he also likes fast and direct attacks in the final third.

From what I understand he also likes to work with a rather flat team hierarchy to get people involved and on board.

Thanks for that. I saw 30 minute highlights package of their game last week, but that's not enough sample size to really look at a team. I'll be watching their game today. I never totally warmed to them under Klopp for whatever reason.

Dortmund's lineup for today. Aside from Ginter at RB nothing that wasn't obvious.

Why isn't Sokratis starting at right back? He's actually quite good in that role and has some experience playing there. Are Sokratis and Durm injured? Neither is on the bench.

Yeah, afaik both are injured. Großkreutz and Kirch not even making the bench probably means that they have no chance at all under Tuchel.

edit: nevermind, apparently Kirch is injured too

How did Reus miss that? :wenger:

3 clear-cut chances missed by Dortmund, have a feeling it's gonna bite them back.

Weigl is just so much more comfortable on the ball that I see little chance for Bender to start a lot of games if Weigl can keep performing at least on a solid level.

Dortmund could've scored half a dozen by now. Expecting Ingoldstadt to score any minute now

Mkhitaryan´s foul was unessecarily hard at the beginning, but you can´t really blame him given the way these cúnts hack at him every chance they get. I still wait for something from Ingolstadt that actually proves they actually belong in the Bundesliga.

They were the same last week. Absolute turd of a team.

This game won´t end with all players standing on the pitch.

Mkhitaryan needs to be subbed at HT. Not because he plays poorly, but to protect him from being send off.

Ingolstadt are looking very weak (even for a newly promoted team). They offer nothing going foward, they foul a lot and Dortmund still easily cut through their defense whenever they up their tempo a bit.

Weird half. Half a dozen top class chances and more fouls by us than I have seen in a long time. Ingolstadt wanted to turn this into a brawl and succeeded in pulling us down to their level. I have also made up my mind for one team who can be relegated rather sooner than later. Not only do they hack at every leg they can find, they are also full of play acting.

Congrats Hamburg, I have finally found a shit team who I rather want to see going down than you guys. Quite an accomplishment.

But so many missed chances...

How have Gundogan and kagawa been?

Both have been playing well I think. Gündogan especially had a couple of sharp, nice passes and a great moment when he dribbled pretty much through Ingolstadt's entire team but then barely missed Aubameyang with his pass.

No changes. Brave by Tuchel. Let´s hope it does not backfire...

I think his team has been playing very will in the first half. From a performance point of view there is nothing to change. And with the level of control they had during the first 45 minutes it seemed reasonable that Mkhitaryan could play on without the need to foul.
They way the second half has started might change things though.

Dortmund will feck that up, won't they?

Cheers. I hope he stays injury free this year.

How dissapointed Reif sounds

Finally, nice for Ginter´s confidence.

Dortmund utterly dominate the first half and can't score then Ingolstadt actually have a pretty good start to the second half and suddenly the CB playing at RB puts ahead them with a clean finish.

Oh the irony..

Reus with the second goal. Looks like we got another well deserved 3-pointer.
