Borussia Dortmund 15/16

So people have finally stopped drinking the Klopp koolaid?

The Kloppaid.
I never managed to get sucked into the Dortmund or Klopp lovein when Klopp was their manager. Now they've got Thomas Tuchel at the helm, that's starting to change.

What's up with the hipster crap? Since when is it morally wrong to like Dortmund? Only few teams play football as beautiful as Dortmund when they're in full form and people appreciate that because football is still supposed to be entertainment as well.

It was also nice to see Dortmund come from being relegated, to winning the Bundasliga and having consistent success without spending heaven and earth on players. Thats another reason I'm still partial to them and hope they do well

Dortmund have played in the Bundesliga since the mid-70's. They've finished 13th once, but other than that they've been in the upper half of the table throughout the last 15 years.

I highly doubt any poster on here thinks it's morally wrong to cheer for Dortmund nor that the term 'hipster' was used in a negative way at all. It's banter (especially coming from Bayern fans), that's all.

I think people were overhyping him by quite a bit. At the time he started out with Dortmund his approach was a novelty in the league and it certainly gave them an edge but as his time progressed with Dortmund I think one thing became apparent that he was too stuck in his ways to realise that Dortmund's game needed another dimension as teams started denying them the space needed for their game and employed counter-pressing just as good as Dortmund did. Of course a lot of managers just stick with what once worked for them or what they feel comfortable with but it also has the tendency to wear off. I think the ability to reinvent himself and his team was actually one of the big strength of SAF, that with almost every new assistant manager and rebuilding of the team he managed to keep things fresh.

But don't worry if Tuchel can keep Dortmund playing at this level for a season or two and win a trophy or two he will surely be the next big thing on the manager market so prepare yourself for the "Tuchel to United threads". :D

Ehm, that never happened (well it has but not in recent times).
On the international stage it is easy to understand why people like Dortmund, their style of play mostly lead to highly entertaining matches and I agree, they kinda had the underdog role for a while, fighting against the big boys Madrid, Bayern etc.
The biggest positive for me is actually their team, they have a lot of highly sympathetic players: Gundogan as a second generation immigrant is a great symbol of successful integration, I like Mkhytarian, Großkreutz commitment is brilliant from a fan perspective especially in times of modern football, you can't hate Kagawa and so on. The only one I really dislike is Weidenfeller but it seems he's gonna be gone soon anyway.
On a national level it was nice to see that - for a while - a team managed to shut the arrogant mouths of Bayern Munich fans/officials but the emerge of endless gloryhunter/hipster fans of Dortmund all over the country was annoying as feck. The whole hype was also completely blown out of proportion, especially by the international press. Watzke is just as unlikeable as the Bavarian clowns Hoeneß/Rummenigge, their professionel football division is a spin-off organization just like all the other big boys and the whole amazing fans thing has been exaggerated mainly because of the yellow wall (which is indeed great), I wouldn't put them into the top 5 in Germany when it comes to support.
Generally I still cheer for them when coming up against Bayern Munich, who are just the Mordor of Germany, but I'd put a lot of other teams ahead of them in my personal ranking in the Bundesliga (ok actually maybe not too many, I just dislike the majority of first division teams, I'm full of hate and envy).

Typical Ossi. ;)

But you are right even for someone like me who in Germany always preferred Dortmund to Bayern I never felt comfortable with the hype surrounding them and Watzke is indeed super annoying even though he did great work for the club I just can't stand him, too whiney and always playing the victim.

He's almost as bad as Lemke was. Hoeneß and Rummenigge clearly bring out the worst in their counterparts.

Tuchel to United was discussed already after Moyes left focusing on his methods, progressiveness and self belief in developing his own style. ''Has to be a big name with centuries old merits'' was basically the response. I think these write-ups based on a few games in Dortmund and deeming him a Pep copy is way out of order however. If you have only watched a couple of games with Tuchel you don't have a sample size to work with. I think he will be a success but people are so quick to judge that after few bad games there will be a different tone about him.

Agreed. I remember bringing up his name in at least one forum I frequent. He is definitely a progressive young manager and one that I would have loved for us to have considered him but after getting our fingers burned with Moyes, it was never going to happen. We'll see how he gets on in the next couple of years and hopefully by then LVG will have won at least something and retired.

I meant from the verge, but yes ofc you're right. Badly typed

as for the hipster thing: i feel like when you're successfully playing one of the most joyful, easy-on-the-eyes brands of football, over the course of 2+ years, you do attract a lot of interest, as it's been quite the entertaining, physical, sometimes hazardous approach to the game - what was/is not to like? it's also very probable that the accessibility via internet, youtube highlight reels etc also plays a major part in such a rise in international attention and popularity.

They have started really well, Reus, Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang have been sharp up top, Gundogan is looking fit and fresh and young Weigl looks a decent prospect.

When Gundogan is on form, he truly is an amazing midfielder and in 12/13 he was arguably a top 5 CM in the world IMO. He is so talented on the ball.

With Dortmund 4-3 ahead after the first leg with four away goals to their name, has Tuchel indicated there might be some changes ahead of their match with Hertha Berlin this weekend?

Odds has literally scored five goals out of three and a half chances now.

Weidenfeller needs to do better there, though.

I expect Tuchel to switch to Bürki as starting GK in every official game now.

did...did you guys just see mkhitaryan's body language after his goal? oh hello there.

Yeah, its only Odds, but feck me we do play some beautiful football.

Oh, and Mkhitaryan needs to have a new contract on his table as soon as possible. Incredible what difference a better suited coach and confidence can make.

Their offense looks brilliant, their defense suspect. Hofmann has been outstanding.

julian weigl looks like he's being remote-controlled by some advanced FIFA gamer. he's just incredible imho. he does the exactly right thing in very very short time, and his passes are always on point, in general. his movement is already superior imho. he always does what a birds-eye viewer would do, he has an immense supervision, and at that age!? wtf.

I knew we are going to regret not buying Gündogan. Absolute world class ATM

Well on the bright side if Odds win now, they´ll advance on the away goal rule.

The Kloppaid?

If you can't admit he did something brilliant with Dortmund during his tenure there then you need your eyesight checked. Their last season takes little away from him; neither does their current brilliance.

The most positive thing about that game is how well Ginter and Hofmann are doing. The former looks more comfortable as RB than he has ever done as CB and the latter simply has some very strong and direct decision making and could really take the next big step this season and will be our first option from the bench (and rotation) for the wings.

Especially when you consider where they were when he took over. He awoke an indebted sleeping giant and the strong team that is on the field currently is only there, cause of him.

What happened to Pizchek (couldn't spell it if I tried 100 times, but he played at RB)
