I might be wrong but this seems like some young kid playing Championship Manager and not really know what to do.

Yeah but has that happened yet? No.He's putting football people in charge of recruitment, so that makes no sense.
Yeah but has that happened yet? No.
Has he been getting the targets? Yes.
Has it been stupid, ridiculous and reckless and almost child in a sweetshop like? Yes.
He may be putting them in charge now, but up until this point the running of Chelsea football club has been utterly shambolic, at least United looked like a football club at times.
He left the DOF open because he clearly wants Michael Edwards and is willing to wait for him.
I don't think they do that either. You hire people who knows what to do. And you hire lot of them.Again, Boehly wanted to micromanage everything which isn’t unusual to how a lot of US firms operate.
There’s no plan at all and the flip flopping to Felix confirms it.
To be fair I'm pretty sure we were linked with Felix in reliable sources (ie. The Telegraph) way before any talk of United/Arsenal ever appeared so it's not like the interest in him is a new thing that only just today appeared out of nowhere.
That said I personally don't rate him and hope he doesn't sign. Has all the makings of another big money flop.
Cech and Marina were not sacked. Marina was and probably still is an employee of Roman. She ran Chelsea for him. She was never a Chelsea employee, not in anything but name. She left immediately after the sale went through along with Buck. Cech spoke to the new owners and he left in mutually agreeable terms because they wanted to go in a different direction. That’s how businesses are run, management changes all the time. The biggest mistake seems like sacking Cech and Marina Whatshername and then expecting things to operate properly without adequate replacements, all while spending stupid money on meh players.
You have to feel for Potter though. He's been brought in with transfers that happened before he joined and has had no time to put his stamp on the side and implement his style. He's now abandoned his system just to get them out of the rut and that's not exactly working out either. The owner has made this mess and is now faced with the choice of backing the manager hard in a difficult window or firing him and bringing in someone who can steady the ship for a while.
I think he'd have to drop out of the top 10 permanently for them to consider pulling the trigger. There must be a red line he can’t cross though? Before the sack? Or do you think they just continue?
Heat off Potter? He's in the Goblet of Fire, you're mid table and sinking fast, these signings are nothing but panic buys that could leave you with serious egg on your face. So, most of you probably do t follow Chelsea that close, so you may have missed a podcast where Jacobs got this exactly right:
They were in line to hire BOTH Fruend and Vivell from the RB group. Edwards is great, but that would be forever to wait, and still not a sure thing.
They thought it was settled, but at the last minute RV changed their minds and said they had a new contract with Fruend and would not let him leave.
Friend would have been DoF, Vivell would have been Technical Director .
We still wanted Vivell. And, as we have been assembling the group, they have been more and more impressed with him. Vivell has been essentially running the recruitment show for weeks now.
This announcement is for clicks and attention shielding to help Potter. Boehly doesn’t care if people “roast” him. If he can take heat off Potter, job done.
Ok… I don’t LIKE the plan, but there is a plan. There’s no plan at all and the flip flopping to Felix confirms it.
Several months on and business is still all over the place.
Ok… I don’t LIKE the plan, but there is a plan.
People are talking about the scattergun approach, but the truth is that everything we do is over exposed in the media right now, that’s all. Every team, every one, has a working list of like 30 people at least for every 4 or 5 they bring in. Asking if a player is available, or allowing a team to come by to pitch you on someone (like Inter with Dumfries) doesn’t mean “chasing a player”.
Like, say CB’s, if you count Kounde (who is still mostly playing RB), then we targeted and had serious discussions with 5 targets to get 3, and that was starting from a general list of about 15. That’s …. Pretty calculated. You may not agree with their choices, but that’s a different issue.
The “panic buys” of last window were purely down to the train wreck that was their relationship with Tuchel. He was still telling them through his assistants he didn’t need a RB or midfielder on deadline day.
Now we have a very experienced group. One that had long scouting lists of their own already in place and an idea, with Potter, what they want the team to look like.
BUT, now they are dealing with a poor table position and a January window.Sending out feelers to test a teams resolve on players is normal; there is just a full news blast each time we do it.
The Felix thing is as much about repairing our foothold in Portugal through Mendes as it is about the player (I believe). We don’t just want to operate, we want to own a team there, and probably will within a year or so. That said … players that are playing for their livelihoods (auditioning for a second chance and a new home… their football career really) will at least attack a switch like this with everything they have personally.
But the attacking pickings are slim.
They absolutely know what they would “like” to do though. They aren’t throwing darts at a board. Doing it is an entirely different proposition.

Not heat from the club, someone else to take some of the press naggings.Heat off Potter? He's in the Goblet of Fire, you're mid table and sinking fast, these signings are nothing but panic buys that could leave you with serious egg on your face.

Potter isnt actually under fire with the club. He is a part of the process trying to move the club through this period.
Arteta finished 8th TWICE before starting to turn things around… and with nowhere near the injury record.
The people that matter know this. The Chelsea fans are starting to catch on and support the process a little more.. at least begrudgingly.
No more “player power” … they can find a new team. No more sending away guys like Musiala and avoiding the youth we want to develop.
We have an excellent, experienced team of professionals in our front office, scouting and player development structure that JUST started… like 3 weeks ago.
It will be fine.
I didn’t say anything was secret. So going for Enzo Fernandez, Badashille, Mudryk and Felix required the secret scouting lists of this experienced group?!
I appreciate your enthusiasm and dedication to the cause but it’s an absolute shambles. You tried to pull the wool over Benficas eyes a few days ago yet you want to repair your relationship in Portugal with Jorge Mendes?
It doesn’t really make much sense.
I absolutely love the the defence by Chelsea fans, we’ve all been doing the same thing since 2013. You’re wrong.
I didn’t say anything was secret.
We switch from Gvardiol to Badiashile two days after Vivell was officially in position, as an example.
It actually doesn’t seem that complicated to me.
The extent to which it isn’t a secret?
I found an interview from Football Terrace with Jacobs from 5 days before the Enzo issue blew up where he distinctly outlined that if they refused the structured payment approach, they would counter with a lump sum bid much much lower than the release.
So, no, not secret. And yes Vivell was the one who went down to Portugal for the negotiations.
I think Vivell actually wants Kone though… so not sure he was that fussed about it.
The attackers are simply desperation. There is no telling how long Sterling and Pulisic will be out for… and Pulisic and Ziyech were supposed to move on by now.
Leao isn’t happening in Winter. Zarkharyan can’t move due to “currently living in Russia” issues.
So we are having to go to 5th, 6th, 7th targets.
And yes, targets of opportunity. Mudryk is a talented player and there is s 20m gap t ok be bridged for Arsenal to sign him.
So we said “meet him and his agent and get concrete agreement t they would be willing to join, and we’ll throw our hat in”
Vivell and Winstanley both signed off, and I think he would have been a decent signing.
None of this is super unique or secret… BUT… it also isn’t super weird or “scattergun”
As people have pointed out, we have lost enough players to injury to field an entire side that could challenge for European places. The team was already 5 years behind in some areas on maintenance, and we lost starters in frees due to sanctions.
We have to buy a ton of people just to establish a new baseline
We’ve all constantly defended the transfers at various points. We’ve always hated the Glazers sure, but with every deal you have people including me, defending these type of panic buys.Haven't we all been saying that the club is rotten from top to bottom and there's nothing to be done but get the owners out, at least until ETH arrived and knew what he was doing?
There's been two or three posters here defending the Glazers and explaining how irrelevant the debt is and such, but pretty much everyone else hates them with a passion dating back to 2005.
Apologies to the mods in advance for breaking the rules, but I've just gotta do it:

Potter is taking over a team that recently won the CL, is a constant top 4 finisher and played in two cup finals last year. I think he’ll get time but to compare yourselves and Arsenal/Arteta in this scenario is wrong. It’s totally different as are the
Left it “open” did he?
