Bluemoon goes into Meltdown

What happened to their famous self-deprecating sense of humour?

That's not my point, I mean people keep saying this in the worst Chelsea team in recent years when in fact it is the best one since they last one the league, they are closer to the title now that they have been in the last 3 years.

Yep can't disagree but I think the so called big 4 United, City, Arsenal & Chelsea overall are weaker compared to recent years. Hence the fact Liverpool are challenging and Everton are nearing the top 4.

IMO United are the only team who have gotten weaker, Liverpool challenging the title and Everton challenging top 4 aren't due to other teams around having really low points, the top 6 or so teams are on really high points. The 4th placed team this year could realistically achieve almost 80 points the team in 4th is set to have the highest number of points achieved for a 4th placed team and a total that could have won the title in quite a few season of the last decade or so. If Liverpool win the rest of their fixtures an finish on 89 points it will be the same total United won with last year and City won with the year before, as well as Liverpool on course to break the most goals scored record. Also the top four will be separated by around 10 points, will that be the closest number of points between 1st and 4th in PL history?

I think that peoples perceptions on how competitive and strong this years league have been been skewed because United have been so poor but when you look at the stats its very strong. As enjoyable as United's suffering has been for Liverpool I actually hope that you come back strong next year and its United and Liverpool fighting out titles.

Can anyone explain why they refer to us as rags? I was on the train to Manchester after they won the League Cup with a load of City fans and even they were referring to United as rags. I don't get it.

Just saw the howler; Mannone literally flopped like a fish trying to get it back, it was quite amusing to be fair but harsh on Sunderland from being deprived of a famous victory.

To reacting to 7th, it really would be the emptihad.

The fact we got over 30000 people attending when we were in the equivalent of League One suggests if we were to finish 7th our attendances would remain high.

You had "47,000" there last night and it was nowhere near that. God only knows the true attendance in those fabled "30,000" games in that case!

Still, they had a few hundred on 'The Hill' in Blackburn once, you know...

If the game sells out and fans don't turn up for whatever reason, not much the club can do. You can make fun of City fans for whatever you like, but questioning our loyalty isn't justified.

Um, yes it is. The whole point of it is questioning your loyalty. You had an average of around 28k in the 2nd division - that's probably a fair reflection of your 'loyal' support.
47k at the Ethiad is way too much for you - you have got what you hate. Day trippers and fair weather fans. You reap what you sow as they say.

And your away support is pretty pathetic, considering you class yourselves as a 'top tier' club now.

Average attendance in 2005-06, way before the takeover, was 42,856. Maine Road held 35000, in the third division our average attendance was over 30000. That is loyal.

Avg Att 28,708 - still pretty decent but not over 30k

Re: the 2005-06 avg - I'm not knocking it but you would expect a big att average in a brand new stadium, playing in the top flight. And I'm sure Maine Road held more than 35k

Edit - you're right, it was just about 35k.

It's capacity was 35150 according to google. I always remembered it as just 35000. 28000 is decent by anyone's standards for a third division side. The 05-06 attendance was good - you have to remember this was the season we broke the record for fewest goals scored at home. Under Pearce the football was bloody dire but 42000 people still turned up week in week out.

I'm sure I've been in Maine Road when the crowd was above 40k. So when did the capacity get reduced to 35k?

Edit : - Here's City's averages for a good few years http://www.european-football-statistics.co.uk/attnclub/manc.htm

As low as 20k some seasons.
Also, I remember being there in 85 when we won 3-0 and the crowd was close to 50k
The season avg for City? 22k

Tut

The reason you get jip about these fabled attendances is entirely your own fault anyway. For years you've peddled the lie that "Manchester is Blue" and lapped up the attention the myth garnered outside of the city. United have had a higher average attendance every single year since the 1940s, including the years we played at Maine Road when Old Trafford was closed due to bomb damage in the war.

If you don't like the criticism, fine. But don't expect United fans to just sit there and allow your lot to peddle more lies. There is bound to be some retaliation so forgive us these moments of schadenfreude.

28k is very impressive for a third tier side but City were only there for a season. Their highest second division attendance was around 32k which is also good, but dropped under 20k at times in the 80s. They definitely have a decent bulk of match goers but so do the likes of Leeds, Wolves, Wednesday, Forest and Derby. They seem to have hit their peak as a title chasing side, where they always have this peculiar situation where the ground seems about a quarter empty against the lesser sides and only genuinely fills up when United play.

United and Liverpool fill up and sell out everywhere they go but not many others do. If Liverpool, Spurs or Chelsea expanded they'd get bigger attendances, possibly Everton too, Arsenal and Newcastle already do. If the likes of Villa or Sunderland had City's success and expanded I could imagine them eclipsing the crowds City get, even Norwich who've been selling out for years now.

I went to Maine Road, or rather was dragged there under false pretences, must have been 1982 or 3. We were sitting in a stand behind one of the goals and it was very sparsely populated.

They won :( but we beat up our mate, who was the only Shitty supporter amongst us, each time they scored

I don't mind the criticism, same way I doubt you care when City fans say United fans are plastic and glory hunters. Both sets of fans peddle myths and lies and exaggerate stuff but it's all part and parcel of being rival clubs. Would be a boring affair if we agreed that both sets of clubs had immaculate fans.

I think the top 4 who usually are a cut above the rest are not up to the usual high standard and hence why Liverpool (who no doubt have improved) are challenging. We have seen it in Europe where our teams have all struggled even Chelsea who are through. Fair play to Liverpool but exceptional circumstances have favoured them this season. This won't be the case next year and unless they spend big they will struggle to repeat (personally I think they'll struggle to get top 4 unless they strengthing greatly due to demands of Europe)

They don't know how good they have it at the moment. Some of the football they were dishing out earlier this season was amongst the best i've ever seen. They're bottling it a bit at the end and their fans are calling for the manager's head? Shocking behaviour.

Really? Asides from United every other club has improved or earned a similar number of points compared to last season. Three teams look set to reach the mid to high 80s in points.

As for us, Our form in the 2nd half of last season (in a season when we were in the Europa league) would have been good enough for third if you extrapolate it out over a season.

I'm not getting the points thing Barney. If a team had run away with it with an unpresedented points total I could see your point. But the top 4 will accumalate the same points every season on average, the whole league standard overall has dropped imo. Chelsea Arsenal United are all poorer than previous years teams and spurs the only improvement is Liverpool and City (who have the strongest squad in the league). It goes in cycles but the Premiership right now is the weakest it has been for a right few seasons.

Chelsea haven't gotten worse, they're undoubtedly stronger than last year. Not to mention Everton have also improved on last season as well. Not to mention that if Arsenal win their last few games, they could finish with more points than they had last season, and they may have an FA Cup win on top of that.

The only sides I'd say have clearly regressed are us and Spurs. Everyone else in and around the top 7 has either stayed the same or improved in some way. The leagues certainly not really weaker than it was last season.

Can we have some reactions after the punishment reports?

I'm going buying a huge bed sheet tonight and write a personal message to UEFA. . Let's all get together and let our feeling known to this bunch or corrupt, racist organisation. Let's get as many banners with messages on as possible for the game tomorrow.

We should now just give them two-fingers big-time.... Sign Ronaldo, Messi, Ibrahimovic... every fecking big name football star in Europe... feck the cost, feck if we earned the money or not... just buy them, then turn round to UEFA and tell them to go feck themselves!
Then sit back and watch all the sponsorship pull-out because their star players wouldn't be in it!

Just sign Messi and feck em

Why in gods name would any "top star" want to sign for City anyway?

They actually think they could sign 'Messi, Ibrahimovic, Ronaldo...' just like that if they wanted? Like seriously?

Is that really a question?
Forgive me, but I dont really see Ronaldo, Messi and co to be the type that really NEED any more money nor want it. Especially since they hadnt really heard of City until a couple of years back or if you believe Alves, this year....

Messi and Ronaldo right now are worlds apart from everyone else (bar Rooney) in being paid, hitting supposedly around £300,000 a week, so they would probably move to places where they want success at a prestigious club more than money. The other top players however are not near these wages, and if City came knocking on the door they could have those wages doubled or even tripled, and at the end of the day every human being has some form of greed inside, and footballers nowadays chase the biggest paycheck 99% of the time.
