Billy No Mates Draft

20 or 24 with group stage? Would be interesting to see a group stage draft first time I think.
I think it could work nicely with 32 as well as 16 and don't think any would drop out. Will add some info onto the 'Next Draft Idea' thread rather than taking this one off topic.

new draft where every single player from this one is on the block list

Have proposed that before, a 'B' draft of sorts. Take any one of the various all times ones, or all(nations, decades, sheep, auction) and make a combined list of picked players and ban them. Alternatively maybe just one of them say the nations one which was the first all time draft and had the most obvious names - ban them!

Would love to have a League Specific Draft (Serie A for some particular timeline possibly) for the next one.
It's linked to my new draft idea actually and should work quite well. Will send a few of you a PM and see what you think...

I think Seria A + nationality rule will make it even more interesting - only play 1 or two of the same country in a team. This will create nice distribution.

I'd be supportive of a Serie A draft. The newbies did a 1990s Serie A draft which looked great (not born in the 1990s, but performances in the 1990s). Obviously gets a little tricky with certain players who peaked in one decade but still played in another, so some sort of modification such as the post-Diego-DOB would be a good call. Certainly think the all-time concept needs a hearty break.

Shall we wait till the final game is over to begin the reinforcements or are we starting now?

I think it was groups of three teams if I remember rightly, with the top two progressing.

In the 50s draft, it was two groups of five or six teams, with the top two or four progressing.

Generally I'd aim to avoid them where possible, they've never really caught the imagination of the Caf.

It was ok, a lot of people don't like the group stages.

Got it. So really it has been tested before.

I think we can start so that possibly we can finish the round tonight and possibly proceed with the draw tomorrow.

Aye, the British/Irish Draft was groups of three teams, and the group stages were pretty underwhelming in terms of voter turnout and discussion IIRC.

It's also the fact that the same teams play 2/3 group games, whereas in KOs everytime a team plays game 99% of the time there will be an upgrade/change in tactics and you have a fresh discussion to have.

I agree about not having groups unless completely unavoidable. The big upside to groups of course is everyone gets an equal shot at the start and the lick of the draw doesn't dictate your chances, and we've had a few complains saying they only got one chance after spending ages drafting which was a bit of a shame. Apart from that KOs all the way.

That's the main problem, indeed.

I think a group stage format could work in a highly specialized sort of draft - something with twists which make it necessary for the managers to field different teams in each match. In a regular draft with 12 players, though, it's bound to get stale after the XI has been on display in the first (group) match.

I'd like to announce the arrival of Gio as the team's co-manager.
