Billy No Mates Draft

How about a change to voting to one team wins by 1, 2 or 3 or the other team by 1,2, or 3?

That would have in effect the same options but would look cleaner. I can then make up hypothetical score lines based in the numbers.

Goal difference could still be counted in a similar way to the present.

Thoughts?

Anyone else feel slightly annoyed by the 'antohan' overkill in the two match threads? He doesn't even have to post himself to overload games . People use his old posts as expert opinions and bring out all the old discussions based on what he wrote. Now I love anto and I'm truely thankful for all his insights in Southamerican football, all the great stories he shared. But ffs, he's still just a football fan. He's not an authority or whatever someone called him. I value his opinion but also take it with a pinch of salt.

Oh and I still hate the new scoring system.
You just wait till I need to sell some obscure germans, my write up would basically be quotes from your posts :) . But in seriousness, its obvious that some posters have more information ( and have watched more games then I have) of certain obscure players or have more in depth knowledge of certain facet of players. I think I used your post about Muller in last game, to talk about his dribbling. Now these posts are ofcourse opinions and should not be taken as truth and should be contended the way MJJ & Enigma are doing against Andrade in the game, but I see no harm in using them. I considered getting Liedholm just because of the epic selling @Annahnomoss had done for him.

I did propose that beforebut was deemed not 'realistic' enough. Should be good or just eliminate some options. Or you can go back to two who wins option.

Your draft your preference mate.

By the way, who'll be the neutral who will start up the thread for the match between me and Physiocrat? My write-up's almost done, and I want to test whether it exceeds one post or not.

I read this before checking out the match threads and had no clue what you were on about.

Yeah, well, to be honest the information coming from anto or other such sources is possibly more reliable than articles written by journos who would have never seen Uruguay in their lives, etc. Not only did anto live there but had close ties with the Uruguayan FA, with his grandfather being present at the 50 WC trophy presentation, etc. What he says might be exaggerated but comes from a personal account of a man who lived and witnessed these things personally. Actually, everything he has said outside of a draft match live thread can be considered pretty much factual and unbiased - not just about Uruguayan players but SAM players like Bochini, on whom he provided a great account involving Argie politics at the time, etc. It is only when he is playing, he goes a step further in selling his players and that is mainly to get the credit those players deserve but don't get due to be lesser known than others. All in all I'd much rather have an opinion from a personal account such as anto's being used as an argument than fecking xtraimmortal - I swear the next time I see that, I am pressing the report button. But it still an argument that refers to a source, nothing more. And if you have your own sources to counter that, bring forward, like Enigma did in his game. What we do know is all the 'hard' information in anto's post is pretty accurate, I can vouch for him that he would have never made up a fact to suit his agenda despite knowing few would blindly listen to him on SAM matters, and that can be used quite usefully and is more than what you can find trawling on the internet.

Can anyone set-up mine and mazhar's game on Tuesday (if possible around 6pm GMT)? I've finished my write-up so would like to send it before I forget

His duality as a goalscoring spearhead and as a dropping deep facilitator/creator truly stands out. I've made certain segments longer than usual - although he doesn't touch the ball in the end - to highlight his runs and positioning inside the box, despite just being part of the build-up play seconds ago. In the sense that he didn't compromise on his duties inside the box just so he could get a touch of the ball outside of it. He knew what his primary duty was. Perfect example would be at 5.02 where he is fairly deep and receives the ball, jinxing past 2 players and aiding build-up play, before appearing in the box just seconds later as though he'd barely left. How he laid a great chance on the plate for Charlton just seconds before scoring a predatory goal in the box, with a turn that Gerd Müller would have been proud of. Could have very well had a hat-trick had he not hit the bar and had a shot cleared off the line. Keep in mind that this was United's first post-Munich trophy and this was back when the FA Cup truly mattered. Really had an unique game to him, in parts reminiscent of the role Müller played for Germany 1972.

Immense workrate and he made several ball recoveries. Also note how fiery (but fair) Law is in every single tackle, tussle and header he is involved in. None of the pussyfooting around with Law, every encounter was like a battle with him. Law made defenders work for every header and second ball, including what should have been comfortable takes for goalies. There are quite a few instances of these where a more opportunistic team-mate could have pounced on the chaos created by Law's peskiness in the penalty box.

Billy Bremner said:
I played alongside Denis for Scotland one Wednesday," recalled Billy Bremner, "then the following weekend, played against him in a Leeds-Man Utd game. I thought to myself `I'm playing against Denis, so if I go for a 50-50 ball I'll take it easy 'cause he's my big pal'. Christ, he nearly killed me in the first tackle.`Den! What was that about?' I asked him. `No friends on the park, son,' he replied. And that was a lesson I remembered throughout my football life."

It didn't matter one bit whether it was Nobby Stiles, Ron 'Colossus' Yeates, Billy Bremner or Jack 'Black Book' Charlton that he was squaring up against, Law went into every tussle with the same bloody minded drive - which was rather unique for a technical goalscoring forward.

Stiles and Law

Against World Cup holders England who were on a 19 match unbeaten run and were home at Wembley. Plays in a fluid and interchanging forward trio with Lennox and Wallace. Frequently drops to either flank and also had a fine rapport with the brilliant Jim Baxter whilst being on the same wavelength as Lennox in terms of coordinating their movement. Had more freedom to drop deep and influence play, esp on the flanks, being Scotland's best player, but still ended the game with a goal and could have very well had a hat-trick, had he not missed an open goal and for Gordon Banks fantastic save on his lob.

Ok I've just got back and managed to finish my write up and send to @Physiocrat . Will post some updates on some of my lesser known players as the match progresses. Best of luck @Theon & @Invictus

Good luck mate! :)

And sorry if the write-up is a bit harsh in a couple places. X

@Physiocrat

viva has my tactics and will send it tommorow morning. If he doesnt i will send it around noon.

Must be annoying for you trying to talk smack on Schnellinger and Schwarzenbeck
I don't think I've ever talked smack about opposing players in any of my write-ups. I don't plan to do it now. Love both players.

Meh, blame it on my poor vocabulary or the wake and bake, but the idea was saying you probably won't enjoy arguing against them not to suggest you talk smack normally :nervous:

:D oh well, Eusebio will kick Schwarzenbeck's butt. No doubt about that ;)
