Television Better Call Saul | Includes Breaking Bad Spoilers

The type of show where you can leave it running in the background while doing other things. The interesting scenes are really good though.

I think it has been great so far. The show has it own pacing and feel, and its been established since the first episode so you just have to go with it. If you don't then it doesn't work. Don't get much from listening to classical music when what you really want to do is work out to some heavy metal, and vice versa.

Regarding the background stories, isn't it just the nature of it being a spin off, pre-breaking bad. We already know what has happened, but the characters don't. Since we already got the big picture climax from Breaking Bad, how are they going to spin that? Compromises has been made, and they've done it well i think. The writers could have made up some drastic shit that probably wouldn't have made much sense, but so far the believability of these stories is far more important than dramatic payoffs.

It's such an easy watch. I like the pacing and background stories - whether they're irrelevant or not makes no difference to me.

I used to complain about how slow this show was, but i've gotten used to it. its a very different way of telling a story, not everyone will like it.

It keeps adding so much more depth to Breaking Bad and the characters involved, without ruining BB too much for those who haven't seen it before watching this.

The slow pace is precisely the reason this show is so great . You can witness the various character transformations in depth.

How do people spot these things?

Saul Goodman business cards!

Though something was up with my TV for the first few seconds of that episode with the half black screen

Good episode; I've come to terms with the pacing of the show and accepted it for what it is, and I'm enjoying this season a lot.

Definitely seems like we're moving towards the end of Kim.

I loved the opening montage. I was expecting some big event to cause them to split, but they made it seem so natural... like just two people drifting apart. The best bit was when they were both eating dinner and the black line was down the middle, you couldn't even tell if they were in the same room at the same time until Saul crossed the line to fill her wine glass.

Seems to be a weird cultish thing about this show where everyone is seeing something incredible in the most boring scenes but I'm of the opinion this season has been a major disappointment. 5/10.

yeah was nice seeing the Saul cards. It's finally happening. I'm more interested in the Mike story line though.

Really enjoyed the episode. Only gripe was that it was too short.

It seems that as soon as you start really enjoying an episode, it fvcking ends. Think I'll binge the season back once it ends so it flows a bit better.

It was one of the weaker episodes this season I think, maybe the weakest. However, it still has an important role as we can assume that Kim's love and compassion for Jimmy are going to lead her down the wrong path in her profession. It's going to be interesting to see how it all ends for her. With no mention of her in Breaking Bad, you can only assume death in the end.

Also, Huell has aged so dramatically in comparison to the other Breaking Bad characters

Not really, she could move away.

Saul once said to Walt "I once caught my second wife sleeping with my stepfather" or something. I guess it was a lie but i wouldn't put it past them to show Saul getting married a couple times? Don't know how his stepfather gets involved tho

I don't think they will kill off anyone else close to Jimmy. They did it once now, it would be a bit lazy to do it again. We are already seeing them drift apart, by the time we meet Jimmy in BB he has already been married a few times... one can assume by this point Kim is so done with Jimmy that they are worlds apart and there's no need for them to mention her. Besides Jimmy was never a fully fleshed out character in BB, he never got any scenes where his private life got any depth so just cause someone wasn't mentioned it doesn't mean they are dead.

I love the way this show is handling the gradual downfall of Kim and Jimmy's relationship. Like every other relationship that fizzles out, they're slowly outgrowing each other and will eventually part. Natural relationships don't end with explosions. I just hope Kim frees herself from Saul and catches a break, while he sinks to the depths he eventually reaches at the end of Breaking Bad. It'd be horrible to watch him drag her down to the point where she has to let him go before he ruins her life completely.

As for the episode overall, this was a good one. I never know how I feel about time-jumps in drama series' - sometimes they're really a really creative narrative technique, other times they're a convenient way to avoid plot and character progression - but this one worked, and most of that was to do with the montage and how it was constructed. The points we've arrived at are a little closer to where Breaking Bad picks up this story, but this is still one of the best shows on TV right now for a number of reasons.

I hope there's a season 5 in the tank before they finally call it a day.

I thought I read October 2003 on one of his PPD reports.

There were several PPD dates shown to demonstrate the passage of time. I believe the final PPD we saw was dated January 2004. Early 2004 also fits with the German engineers having been working on the tunnel for around eight months.

Yeah makes sense.

Didn't want to necro an old thread so I just wanted to ask - I started watching Breaking Bad last night watched the first two episodes. Quite enjoyed it but I'm not hooked on it yet. Is it worth sticking with? I didn't really care much about the characters at all but I understand it has many fans so will probably carry on for a bit.

Liked the bit with the PO saying he picked up Huell for pickpocketing. That didn't even click at first. I thought of it about an hour later, and remembered about
Huell taking the ricing cigarette off Jesse, and also the weed before he's about to be given a new identity.
.

I remember thinking the first season was decent, but not amazing. I can't remember at what point I got totally absorbed by it, but it definitely happened. I got in to it quite late and had 3 whole seasons to get through, and as I'd finished, Season 4 came out, so reached a point where I just didn't want to stop watching it. So many late nights of "just one more episode..."

It can be quite over-egged and a bit fantastical, but it's a great watch. But there are some slow episodes you need to power through.

And most importantly, it doesn't turn completely shite like Dexter and Sons of Anarchy do, so it's worth delving in to and seeing through to the end.

I'd avoid reading this thread though, as there's a lot of spoilers.

Really enjoyed the latest episode, looking forward to the next one!

If you've not seen breaking bad, the show isn't that great. A lot of the enjoyment comes from knowing where Jimmy is going to go character wise, and looking at the clues as to how it happened.

Oh defintely stick to it. It's one of the best peices of television ever made. By the end of episode 6, you're mind will be blown!

I think it was season 2 where I got hooked...

Very much yes.

I envy you getting to watch it for the first time.

I think it [I[really[/I] takes off in season three and the majority of my favourite characters play more prominent roles in the later seasons. Definitely worth sticking with.

I've watched Breaking Bad. I just don't think they need no waste a quarter of an episode showing how they decided who should dig the meth lab, it's not that important.

Not yet it's not, but maybe something important will come of it? Nearly every part of the story at some point has had relevance somewhere else.
