So where do we fit in these Griezmann, Silva, Belotti and Morata signings we've made in the past 24 hours?

I assume that the people worrying about pace believe it to be a necessary but not sufficient attribute for good attacking players. So the Zaha example would not really apply.

Without wanting to be a snob, I just think it's an English obsession. Largely in the absence of tactical nouse or cleverness, we just have a primitive concept of having players who can run faster, jump higher or push their opponents over.

In Serie A, there are no wingers, for example. Juve have very little pace in their team, but are excellent.

That's a bit of an exaggeration, Cuadrado and their fullbacks are pacy and while their forwards aren't speedsters they are fast enough, Khedira and Marchisio are mobile and you could even say that for a CM Khedira is pacy. As for their starting CBs, they are faster than most.

Juventus aren't slower than Tottenham for example.

They have 'very little' pace. Mobility is another thing. No team would purposely look for slow players of course, but it is clear that it is not the key currency there as it is viewed in England.

Speed with the ball is the best speed of all I think. Speed of legs requires large amounts of space, and generally offers less control. Juve do have some pace in their team though, you are right. I just doubt their fans were debating whether they should sign Duvall because he is 'too slow', as some of our fans would be doing on here if we were linked with him at Palermo.

But that's different, they have pace in the team but they don't need it. They also don't put a huge emphasis on it and mix it up with technique and tactical nous, that I agree with but we can't really say that they have little pace. They use and require little pace.

You are completely discounting the ability of players to step up and improve on this season. I think that Shaw and Martial have shown enough to be afforded patience for one more season and in the event that they did struggle next season we have Mkhitaryan, Rashford and Mata to come in for Martial and I think Blind can stand in for Shaw should Shaw bomb again. As for replacing Valencia we do have squad options in TFM, Darmian and Young. Basically its a squad game.
What we need next season is sure fire goal scorer, a world class CB and a holding midfielder. We do have room for a player like B. Silva because such a talent is one tou can not miss out not only because of his potential upside but also because of what he can offer now. He increases the number and quality of chances we would create, his skill can open up parked buses and also leave a lot of room for the likes of Pogba and Martial because teams will double mark him. We missed out on Hazard back in the day lets not make the same mistake again.
Im not discounting others stepping up. Martial is who im counting on for the left wing. Shaw im guessing wont make it in this hypothetical situation, pretty obvious why though. Darmian is average at best, young is as old as Valencia and average anyway. TFM never really showed any potential for me, hes just big and strong and fast. What we lack in our current squad is basically what i listed above, and theyll be weak points until theyre addressed because we dont have promising youngsters coming in there.

I think Utd needs a CM and a ST more. Bernardo Silva was another reject of Jesus time, who used him as left-back in the pre-season. He wasn't taking that and asked to be loaned. Working with Jardim's did wonders for him. The potential was there but you never know how this type of player progresses as the level rises. I'm sceptic if he can perform in England as he had in France. Hope he makes it. He's crazy about Benfica.

He indeed seems extremely bitter he was not given proper chance back in Benfica. Not often you see this level of frustration and grudge. Who knows, maybe this will only motivate him to become a better player and prove Jesus & co. wrong?

Yes, but he already said he would be back at Benfica when he's older. He reached the national team, played in CL and is an important player in Monaco. I think he's past that. Probably would have like to "made it" at Benfica.

I think Bernardo Silva has an incredible career ahead of him, and I'd love it to be developed at United. I can only see his signing coming at the detriment of Mata though, which is something I can get on board with. For all Mata's exceptional qualities, his lack of mobility makes it almost impossible to utilise him in a counter attacking system.

I firmly believe that we will have a more stable and consistent starting eleven next season, and I can only see that as a positive move to help improve the form of Mkhitaryan and Martial. The right side of our attack will be up for grabs, and Bernardo Silva would give us excellent balance, allowing over lapping runs and creating from wide - a lot like Eriksson does for Spurs.

Yesterday's game is a big reason why I feel Bernardo must be signed this summer.

In situations when we're under pressure, a player like him is able to get on the ball and not just keep it by dribbling the players pressing him but also through passing in between the lines. A player like him would have made such a big difference to our attack yesterday.

Obviously Pogba was a big miss for this but B.Silva would serve as another playmaker which we desperately need.

I agree, and it's the fact we need more players to scare opposition with, we only really have Pogba, Rashford we need constant attention! Silva, Griezmann etc will give us much needed fear!

B. Silva.

No brainer. Sign him up if he is available and wants a move to Old Trafford.

I like Mata a lot but I just think he lacks that ability to hold a game by the neck and dictate it. He hasn't done that too many times in his career. Brilliant at finding pockets of spaces and scoring periodically but he just never dictates games. My ideal number 10 should be able to do that. Mikhi's problem is consistency. He blows too hot and cold for my liking. On his day, he is almost like a genius. The problem is that his day is often once a month.

Good post. Pretty much what I thought yesterday.

If he's available we have to go for him. Surely? I thought it'd be more Bakayoko and Fabinho likely to move. Whilst Mbappe and Silva would stay due to the world cup year.
Fabinho is their most important player.

If Monaco can hold on to everyone else but those two then it would be an exceptional summer. Bakayoko is easily replaced, Silva will be trickier to find a replacement but they'll likely get €50M for him so they have a lot to play around with.

I pray we get Bernardo. Bakayoko can go to Chelsea, I'm not too bothered about that.

Doesn't Monaco have a verbal agreement to let Fabinho leave this summer? Even Castles is saying that Moanco had previously agreed a fee with Juve for him, but have now rejected it to get a higher fee elsewhere (with City interested).

Could not agree more we are missing this type of player. I hope we sign him and Griezmann more than anyone. When teams pack the defence against us at OT he would be the game changer in our team with his ability to beat a man. Something we lack sorely since Nani left.

What's to say Silva won't struggle more than Mkhi? It is not set in stone that he'll come and we will automatically perform better

Getting quiet. Hope France Football are right and we are in advanced talks for 50m. He is such a nice player to watch, in the David Silva, Iniesta and Isco category.

Seeing him live today, very excited. Hope he puts on a show.

Worth the admission money alone @Raoul

I'd be happy with no "Out and out" striker if we get these two. Combine them with Rashford, Martial, Mkhitaryah, and Mata and you've got pretty potent attack. If they can't improve us in the final third then the world is doomed.

I hope Barca get him. They need a player that is comfortable on the ball since Iniesta is old. Busquets is not enough.
