This All Could Have Been So Much Easier

There’s less than four hours to go and I imagine you, like me, are sitting at your computer desperate for any updates.
If someone had told me yesterday that we’d be in a bidding war with Manchester City, believed to be around £33 million, for Dimitar Berbatov, I would have laughed in their face. Is this really happening?

All summer we have gone back and forth with Tottenham Hotspur, lodging two official bids but getting no joy. Spurs value the player at £30 million, whilst United were intent in spending ‘only’ £25 million.
So in an attempt to save us a few quid, we’ve put off finalising the deal until the last day of the transfer window. Spurs aren’t even playing Berbatov any more and have already spent the money they will get from his transfer, so obviously they want to sell him. United figured they’d try their luck and see just how badly Spurs wanted to sell him. Badly enough to lower their asking price by a few million?
This is a plan that would have worked as well… if not for City being bought by multi-millionaires who are willing to splash their cash on everyone! As as well bidding for Berbatov, their owner claims they have also tried to sign David Villa and Mario Gomez.
Now that City have had their bid accepted and seemingly United haven’t offered any more money, we’re left to wait and see what happens as the clock ticks down.
Is the fact that United haven’t made another bid indication that they’re not interested in stumping up cash for another British record this summer? Did Berbatov have talks and complete a medical at Carrington without Spurs’ permission? Only time will tell I suppose.
However, United will be left to regret not stumping up the cash earlier, as now, if we do manage to sign the player, we are looking at an even larger transfer fee than Spurs were initally looking for.
I will keep you updated.

its as i have said. city want to make a splash so they put a bid forward to spurs that cant be accomplished which will of course cause us to raise our bid.

feckign twats!!

We'll only have to raise our bid to meet spurs asking price (in and around). City offeing what they have has changed nothing monies wise because the player has no interest going manchester city. It would be different if he did.

The Last Minutes of Levy

Suddenly the world began to spin for Levy, all that he had accomplished meant nothing, because Berbatov was going to escape from his talon-like clutches. This horrifying inevitability broke his heart over and over again, pounding against his organ like a woodpecker on speed. More importantly though was the drunken Scotsman in front of him who held a .45 Desert Eagle aimed at his temple.

As panic set in, Levy embraced the only hope of escape he had and quickly stuffed his compiled FA Complaint report into his mouth. He started to chew at the papers, tearing at the core of them, ripping apart everything he had constructed. Fergie let off a manic-cackle, his gun waving in the air as he jumped up and down on the spot, he pointed at Berbatov and then back at himself, miming the word 'Mine' over and over again, then he gave a barely perceptible nod to Gill. He knew what was coming, he had lost everything, and know the transfer assassin himself was going to claim him, closing his eyes, he breathed a sigh of relief, but it was cut short by the soft hiss of the silencer.

Would've been exciting had they actually had a chance to buy these players. I doubt they'll get any of them. I agree with Simon, it's a Page Ranking exercise on the part of their new owners. . .and Sky's making it out to be something it's not. Robinho to Chelsea and Berb to United are the only big transfers that are on.

truesay, but regardless of that, its still a bolt from the sky blue that, considering the montony of the last month of this berba thread, has come as a bit of a shock.

oh my shit! i actually dont know if i can take this anymore

Apparently levy has blamed the forthcoming transfer of berbatov on northern rock.

bahama im with you mate, my world has been turned upside down, but i got a small feeling inside me somewhere that we might get some good news later... maybe thats just called hope tho:nervous:

Which is bollocks, considering Deeemutar doesn't want to go to City. So the City bid is totally out of the equation as Barca's bid for Beckham was.

Are these folk thick?

I just wanna say that I am extremely pissed off with this whole charade. This deal should have been done back in June and none of this shit would have gone on. The Berbatov deal should be well sewn up not giving the likes of Man City or Real Madrid or Kidderminster Harriers or whoever the feck to get a chance to sign him.

This is too much!!!!

It's obvious he wants to join us but I'm a little alarmed by the Sky Sports retardedness and shit stirring. I knew they were a little dense but to keep this "tug of war" story going when it's obvious he's signing for us is stupid. It's nearly 9pm and Berbatov has been with United since lunchtime. He going to nip over to City, have a quick chat and decide to sign for them isn't he:wenger:

fecking Skytards

right I have been away for an hour, and cant be arsed to read the last 10 pages, have we signed him yet?

sounds to me like we've kidknapped him they've had a bid accepted but he's having a 5 hour medical with us

why do i have a sneeking suspicion that we wont know even at 12 whether a deal has been done or not

bahama im with you mate, my world has been turned upside down, but i got a small feeling inside me somewhere that we might get some good news later... maybe thats just called hope tho:nervous:

is it a tingly feeling or a sharp burning sensation? If it's the latter you've probably set yourself on fire rubbing your hands up and down your legs

It'll happen. God knows the future but it will

ps: this site is struggling under the weight of so many fat bastards pressing f5 it seems :)

Unless a fee has been agreed, why haven't we phoned the police and reported Utd have stolen £33M from us!

That would be sensational to see fergie being cuffed and shoved in a cop car, then they could drop Berba off at city for us!

OK, might have gone to far here, but the sentiment is, why haven't our club kicked up a big stink? I guess Utd have said they will match City's bid, then after the medical they will hold him so long City will be out and try to hardball us, paying over 10years or some crap.

I suspect this might be end in court.

Well, I've been saying this would go to the last hour of the transfer window for weeks now.

But I'm not sure it's going to happen at all now. It seems be too late in the day for Spurs and United to sort this out if Spurs are now saying they gave Berbatov no permission to talk to United.

Spurs have not bought anyone else yet so it's looking more likely they will try to hold on to Berbatov if they cannot persuade him to accept the move to City.

If they only way United can sort this is to nearly match City's 30m+ offer then I'd prefer they walk away anyway. He's worth nothing like that.

What I want to know is what is going to happen to United considering they have given Berbatov a medical without Spur's consent.

Anyone ?

Lets hope there is a problem with the paper work for the Saha transfer. If the fecker passed a medical he can play for us.

Exactly

I think Hughsie is beginning to dislike United.

Gut feeling says this will happen.

I know you lot love to think you're ITK, but i imagine there's alot more agreed behind the scene's than we've been told.

there is no way we would have done that, no chance, they gave us permission, its just speculation that we didnt get it.

Im actually nervous, its gonna come to a head in 4 hours and we could either be very happy and joyful about the prospect of our new signing or we could end up empty handed with know one and depressed that this whole thread was a waste....

come on united do whats right and get in berbie
