Could you imagine if we had agreed a fee with Spurs, Berbatov had accepted our terms and conditions and there Gill and Berbatov are, all alone in Gills office ready to sign the contract. It is 11:50pm, Gill hands Berbatov the pen, everything is going OK, then, a catastrophe happens. Berbatov puts pen to paper and the pen is not working, the shops are shut, and Gill is out of pens and pencils.

What would happen then? One more excuse to sack Gill?

We all know that Berbatov clearly would choose us over Man City. I just worry about how our bid compares to theirs. I hope that does not ruin the whole deal for us. Fergie and Gill should do what must be done.

Berbatov is unlikely therefore to go to Citeh.

Berbatov will tell Levy its United or spurs reserves for him.

Levy will buckle and take our offer.
 
It's probably already been mentioned (I can't be arsed waiting 5 minutes for the previous page to load) but I reckon City's bid is all part of a conspiracy with Tottenham to force United's hand. Berbatov is never gonna leave Spurs to go to the CoMS (nor for that matter are Villa or Gomez) but I reckon Levy managed to come to an informal understanding with City's officials during the Corluka deal negotiations that he could leak the "news" about a 30mp bid. From the new Arab owners point of view it's a bit of good P.R. and from Tottenham's it pushes the Berb talks forward.

If Berbs sign for City, he's not worth worrying about, he'd be shown up as a mercenary.
