I hope Spurs end up having to sell to United for £27m at 10:59pm (something to do with UEFA registration from a post I saw a few days ago). By that time, it's either take what's on the table, or get nothing and have an unhappy player. I'd like to see United improved over the summer, but especially once Ronaldo is back, the best squad in Europe is still in Manchester, with or without Berbatov.

Berbatov is never gonna leave Spurs to go to the CoMS (nor for that matter are Villa or Gomez) but I reckon Levy managed to come to an informal understanding with City's officials during the Corluka deal negotiations that he could leak the "news" about a 30mp bid. From the new Arab owners point of view it's a bit of good P.R. and from Tottenham's it pushes the Berb talks forward.

That would seem like a reasonable possibility. Anything to drive the price up.

Too true and what's even stranger is to believe that Levy has 'accepted' any bid from somebody in that position. Wouldn't be worth anything if the deal went tits up.

Exactly.

Why would he want to move to a lesser club than the one he is already at? It doesn't make sense.
 
If the story of levy saying hes not got permission to speak to us is bollocks hes ours. if true who knows. is it true??????
 
United edge towards Berbatov deal

Manchester United appear to be winning the battle to sign Dimitar Berbatov from Tottenham.

On a crazy day in the north-west, the Bulgarian finally met Alex Ferguson at United’s Carrington training complex before heading to Old Trafford for what many people see as the final act in one of the summer’s most lengthy transfer sagas.

And news that Berbatov was having a medical with United in Manchester only further fuelled the belief that United were about to get their man.

It has been repeated throughout the day that a fee has still to be agreed between United and Tottenham, and publicly at least Spurs have not even given Berbatov permission to speak with the Old Trafford outfit.

However, it is hard to see how such manoeuvrings can be done without the selling club’s consent although nothing can be ruled out – especially with Manchester City so keen to hijack the deal.

It would now appear unlikely Ferguson would fail in a quest that has taken him months to reach this stage.

With Tottenham making no formal statement on discussions with United, it is still assumed there is a £5million difference between what the north London club want and the sum being offered by the Old Trafford outfit.

I'd say well done to Skysports news in all fairness, they've kept the suspense going and I'm sure a fair few people are watching it all through the day.
