Its fecking obvious that it will happen before the window closes.

Unfortunately. :(

Signs are good really, if it wasnt going to happen Gill would cleared it up. Also with Fergie saying " communications are hard" they have been trying.

Spurs must crack. Theyve got Pavyluchenko, so why keep a 25-30m player who is not in the right mind state at your club when you clearly wont get the best out of him?

Reporter "any signings likely before the window?"

Gill "I'm not going to comment on that. We're working on it, you know I've been doing transfers a number of years and I know it's never done till it's done either in or out. So lets see what happens, unfortunately everyone's going to have to wait. We're looking forward to the game tomorrow and we're happy to be here"

At least he didn't say nothing would happen.

By saying.."unfortunately, everyone is going to have to wait"..., could be Spurs have to sort their business first.

Yes it would be a terrible shame if the best ever manager brought in a player he feels we need to strengthen our squad so that we continue to compete in the league and in Europe.

I think I would cry my eyes out if we added another top class striker to our squad. I would be inconsolable.

I just can;t see it not happening. Not after everything's gone on. I doubt Berbatov will knuckle down and play like Barry at Villa, so keeping him will be a huge mistake on Levy's part. Deeeeemitarr is at a point of no return.

Levy's prone to making stupid decisions though

This is going to go down right to the wire.

I suspect Spurs' game against Chelsea might also play a part. If they start Berb and he looks bored and rubbish, they might just crack.

really?

I, on the other had, would be fecking delighted if we signed another 30 odd million striker in addition to the two 30-odd-million strikers we already have so that we can stick one 30-odd-million striker on the bench each game.

If Levy ended with an 'i', 'Devil' would be an anagram of D.Levi.

He looks evil too.....

Manchester United chief executive David Gill has urged the club's fans to be patient over Sir Alex Ferguson's bid to sign a new striker to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are trying to bring a torturously long chase for Dimitar Berbatov of Tottenham to a positive conclusion before Monday night's deadline.

Speaking ahead of the Super Cup clash with Zenit St Petersburg in Monaco, Gill confirmed that United would kick off their defence of the Champions League with a home game against Villarreal.

However, he was less forthcoming on transfer business.

"Clearly there's not long to go," he told Sky Sports News. "You'll have to wait with bated breath.

"We're looking at it. Let's see what happens.

"It's inappropriate to comment on what is going on behind the scenes at the moment.

"We're working on it but I've been doing transfers for many, many years and know nothing is done until it's done, either in or out.

"We'll see what happens but, unfortunately, everybody is going to have to wait."

Gill also claimed he had no interest in stepping into Brian Barwick's shoes at The FA.

The long wait continues. :(

Oh at least Gill telling the FA to feck off. :D

We've waited three months, we can wait 4 more days.

As they say..."It's Berba late than never".

Transfer hopes fading fast

Sir Alex Ferguson's hopes of bolstering his United squad before the transfer deadline appear to be fading fast.

The Reds' manager has openly been chasing a new striker throughout the summer, with the British media convinced that Tottenham's Dimitar Berbatov is his number one target.

With four days to go until the deadline passes, however, Sir Alex is not hopeful - although he insists that his side can cope regardless.
"At the last press conference I said I wasn’t optimistic," he told his pre-Super Cup press briefing in Monaco. "I’m less optimistic today, so we’ll carry on.

"I’ve no idea what’s going on really, it’s very hard to get communication with some people in life. We just have to get on with it."

This season's transfer window will close at midnight on Monday, September 1 by virtue of August 31 falling on a Sunday.

His odds have been slashed on betfair to stay with Spurs from 4/1 this morning to 8/13.

However, he's still 1/4 fav to leave.

I suppose with the days counting down and still no sign of him moving the bookies naturally will have to cut his odds on staying.

I got 3.6 - 1 on him staying this morning and stuck £5 on.

At least when midnight September 1st arrives I will be financially compensated to the tune of £17.50 give or take a few pence. Enough to get a few consolation beers in :D

Gill pleased with Euro draw
Reds' chief executive David Gill says the club are pleased with the Champions League draw after being pitched with Celtic, Villarreal and Danish side Aalborg.

United have played both Celtic and Villarreal in recent seasons, but face new opposition in the form of Aalborg.

The Reds will kick-off the defence of their European crown at home to Villarreal in the middle of September and Gill is hopeful of another successful campaign.

"Overall, we're pretty pleased with the draw," he told Sky Sports. "We don't have far to travel and the way the games have fallen means our first game is at home to Villarreal between our trips to Liverpool and Chelsea which is good.

"Villarreal are a good Spanish team and we'll be up against our former striker Giuseppe Rossi - I'm sure he'll look forward to coming back to Old Trafford. The games against Celtic were great occasions last time. Both teams have got very passionate fans and I'm sure they'll be great games again which both the players and the fans are already looking forward to.

"It's a great competition with a lot of great teams and as defending champions we're really looking forward to it," he added.

With the closure of the transfer window fast approaching, Gill insists the club are still "looking at things," but refused to be drawn on specific players.

"I've got nothing to report on transfers at Manchester United - ins, outs or contract negotiations. Clearly there's not long to go, but we're looking at things and let's see what happens," he said. "I've been doing transfers for many years and they're never done until they're done. But we're working on it."

Because of course players never get injured, suspended, rested, rotated etc etc.

We currently have 2 top class fit strikers and Frazier Campbell as a decent young prospect.

Saha is unlikely to play for us ever again. Manucho is injured and inexperienced in English football.

If we buy Berbatov it will give us 3 first choice strikers who we can use in a variety of ways.

We had 4 top class strikers between 1998 and 2002

I just got another e-mail from a spurs ITK.

been told that a fee is all but agreed (because Pav and Arshavin will join spurs now)

On Friday Gill and Comolli will iron out any issues in monaco (rags already picked up on this)

Gill and SAF's comments today about uncertainty are in relation to the fact that spurs are not allowing any movement (i.e medical for berba or his registration until Pav is offically signed)

Therefore they do no know what will happen until spurs get in a striker. Pav should be signed tomorrow. I am told expect medical on sat and official signing on Sunday, close shave huh.
