Berbatov

The more I think about what's going to happen if we get him, the more I become 50/50 with whether I want him or not.
Hope Fergie has a plan. And a plan B, if we do get him.

Spurs insist Dimitar Berbatov and Roman Pavlyuchenko could face Chelsea
Tottenham have stressed that the imminent signing of Roman Pavlyuchenko will not alter their stance regarding Dimitar Berbatov, with club sources insistent that both forwards could conceivably play against Chelsea on Sunday.

Despite threats that he will be consigned to the reserves this season, Berbatov continued to train with the first team yesterday and, if there is no acceptable bid from Manchester United in the next 72 hours, will be considered for Sunday's match.

"The lads are working well and we have to forget about our anxieties and simply do what we have shown we are all capable of doing, footballers and coaching staff alike," said manager Juande Ramos.

Pavlyuchenko's move from Spartak Moscow is expected to be completed in the next twenty-four hours and represents the start of Ramos' attempt to rebuild his attack following the departures of Jermain Defoe and Robbie Keane, as well as the probable loss of Berbatov.

Ramos decided that Berbatov was not psychologically ready to play against Sunderland last Saturday, but the situation will be reassessed before the club's trip to Stamford Bridge.

Tottenham will still not consider a fee of less than £30 million from Manchester United for Berbatov, despite the fact that the 27-year-old could try and follow the precedent set by Scotland defender Andy Webster and terminate his contract at the end of the season.

If that happened, Tottenham could only expect to receive compensation from the player that covered the remainder of his contract (in Berbatov's case around £2.5 million) rather than any transfer fee.

Tottenham would clearly have needed to enhance their attacking options regardless of what happens with Berbatov, but it would appear that Pavlyuchenko has been bought as a long-term replacement.

In terms of style and physical size, he is similar to Berbatov, while his preference is also to play as the main focal point in attack. During Euro 2008, Russia tended to use Andrei Arshavin running off Pavlyuchenko in a similar manner to Robbie Keane and Berbatov at Tottenham in recent seasons.

Pavlyuchenko, 26, top scored for Russia during Euro 2008 but is best known to English fans for his two goals in Russia's 2-1 win over England in Moscow last year during the Euro 2008 qualifiers.

Initially he was reluctant to leave Spartak, particularly as his family is so settled in Moscow, but has now been persuaded by the chance to play in the Premier League.

"The only thing that has kept me from moving is my family," said Pavlyuchenko. "It was difficult for me to imagine how my wife and daughter could move from a place they are used to. I was also embarrassed that I could not speak English.

"But my doubts are all behind me now. I have decided I will sign with Tottenham. Formalities will be settled in a day or two."

Tottenham are also interested in Ajax forward Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, but are understood to be reluctant to pay the £20 million asking price.

Left-back Lee Young-Pyo, meanwhile, has joined German side Borussia Dortmund from Spurs.

The first mention that I've seen in the press regarding the possibility of Berbatov doing a Webster next summer.

About 100 pages back I had a discussion with ''Berbatov 9'' about this and I stated that because the details in Berbatov's contract changed last summer he therefore wouldn't be able to do a Webster next summer.

If I am wrong about that and he can do a Webster next summer, how can Spurs possibly demand £30m for the player this summer when they'll only get £2.5m for him in 12 months time?

Somebody mentioned that a player can only invoke the Webster ruling if they move to a different country. That would help to explain why Spurs are able to demand such a high fee from us this summer but is it true?

I've looked through the Article 17 regulations and have found no mention of a clause stating that the player must move to another country to be able to invoke the clause.

Can anyone help on this?

Berbatov can inflict the Berbatov ruling, in which he becomes the king of Tottenham Shitspur and dissolves the club, and signs for Manchester United for free

Why's everything have to be so difficult? Hargreaves, Tevez, Berbatov? Not to mention Ronaldo's comments this summer. Manchester will have a lot of grey haired fans after the closing of the window.

Pavlyuchenko and Arshavin then. All Spurs need now is Zhirkov on the left. I've heard nothing about him moving, but I was mightily impressed by the way he ran the left side of the Russian team in the Euros.

More posturing from Spurs on their stand with regards to the fee.

Another day is ended
And I still cant sleep
Remembering my Berbering days
I begin to whip
If I could have it over
Live my life again
I wouldn't change a single day

(chorus)
I wish that I could whip out my c**k
Bring the wheels of time to stop
Straight to the day when Berb signs on the dot

Lying here in silence
Picture (Berb) in my hand
Of a boy I still resemble
But my willy starts to stand
And as my toza runs freely
How I realise they were the best years of my life

(chorus)

You might say its just
A case of giving up
No
But without these memories where is the love
Where is the love

If I could have it over
Live my life again
I wouldn't change a single day

(chorus)

Why cant I whip out my c**k
Bring the wheels of time to a stop
Straight to the day
Oh no no
I remember when
Life was so good
I'd go back Id I could
Oh oh I wouldn't change a single day
Don't let the memories slip away
I wouldn't change a single day
Don't let the memories slip away

A serious case. Too many Ramliberbers. It happens.

Tottenham hope the gambling Mecca of Monte Carlo will provide the backdrop to a key breakthrough in talks about the sale of Dimitar Berbatov and the signing of Andrei Arshavin.

Manchester United and Zenit St Petersburg will contest the UEFA Super Cup after Friday's UEFA Cup draw in Monaco, where Spurs will be represented by director of football Damien Comolli and club secretary John Alexander.

Comolli and Alexander plan to meet United’s chief executive David Gill and try to strike a deal for Berbatov.

The also hope to re-open talks with Zenit, which ground to halt with Spurs £2m short of Zenit's £20m valuation.

Roman Pavlyuchenko is waiting for his visa but is expected at Tottenham for a medical before adding the finishing touches to a £16m move from Spartak Moscow before the weekend.
