Pavlyuchenko 'set for Spurs move'

Probably posted before but there is so much spam in this thread it is almost impossible to check.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/t/tottenham_hotspur/7583335.stm

Spartak Moscow striker Roman Pavlyuchenko has told the Russian media he is poised to join Tottenham Hotspur.

"I can confirm I'm joining Spurs. Right now I'm getting my visa and as soon as it is ready I will fly to England to sign a contract," he said.

"Everything has happened very quickly so I could not even say goodbye to my team-mates."

Pavlyuchenko added that he would not play for Spartak in their Champions League qualifier on Wednesday.

The club travel to face Dynamo Kiev in the second leg of their third qualifying round and Pavlyuchenko will miss out after he reportedly returned to Moscow for talks with the Premier League club.

A Spurs source told the BBC that the deal is far from a formality but Spartak's general manager Valery Karpin said his club have accepted a bid from Tottenham.

606: DEBATE
Would Pavlyuchenko be a success in the Premier League?
"There is a concrete sum which Tottenham proposed and we have agreed the amount," he told Russian newspaper Soviet Sport.

"If Roman will agree a contract then we are ready to let go him go. If Roman begins to play in England, this will be good both for him and for the team."

Pavlyuchenko was Russia's top scorer at Euro 2008 with three goals as they reached the semi-finals and he also netted twice in a 2-1 win over England in a qualifying match in October last year.

"I could not decide if I wanted to go to England at first - first yes, then no," added Pavlyuchenko.

"The only thing that stopped me from leaving was my family. But now all doubts are behind me and I decided to sign a contract with Tottenham and the formalities are practically settled."

Spurs have been searching for a striker as a replacement for Robbie Keane, who joined Liverpool for £20.3m this summer, while Dimitar Berbatov looks set to leave the club before the end of the current transfer window on 1 September.

The Bulgaria striker has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United and did not feature in Spurs's 2-1 defeat at home to Sunderland on Saturday.

Spurs had originally targeted Pavlyuchenko's Russian team-mate Andrei Arshavin but the club decided not to follow up their initial interest in the Zenit St Petersburg playmaker.

This thread should really be titled something better than just Berbatov

I don't think Pavlyuchenko will be a great signing for Spurs this season. The Russian season started in March so it is unreasonable to expect him to come straight into the English Premier League and play through all the way until May.

If this goes through though I expect the Berbatov saga to be finally concluded:D

Ffs Levy might read this;)

Horrendous thread. Worse than the Ronaldo one.

At least most of the posts in the Ronaldo thread was regarding the actual topic and the whole saga - 50% of this thread has been pure bollocks which should belong in the general.

But most of the people here seems to like the way the thread is going, so who am I to piss on their parade :smirk:

Indeed. And most of this crap isn't even funny, which is the worst of it all.

what? Like "who can rack up most posts talking shite"?
Excuse me. I have better things to do than talk shite. I enjoy long threads. My posts are on topic most of the time although I do tend to drift off into neverneverphotoshopland at times.
Some good posters in this thread and we're all over it if any new "news" arrives and we disect it to death. Problem in this thread is that there's so little stuff coming out so we have to do something.
These critics of other posters always get me down. Like we're disturbing them. If you are truly interested in this topic you should get up in the morning, read all the posts from where you left off, and continue. There are always some good posts and some further nuances to add to the deal. I find it entertaining. If you just want news, I recommend

Latest: Will Pavlyuchenko To Tottenham Pave Way For Berbatov’s Exit?

August 26, 2008

Is it the seminal news United fans have been waiting for, or just another red herring?
The Spartak Moscow striker Roman Pavlyuchenko has this evening told reporters he will be joining Tottenham as soon as he can secure a visa to play in England:
“I can confirm I’m joining Spurs. Right now I’m getting my visa and as soon as it is ready I will fly to England to sign a contract,” he said.
“Everything has happened very quickly so I could not even say goodbye to my team-mates.”
Will Pavlyuchenko’s arrival signal the end to the bitter wrangling over the future of Dimitar Berbatov?
Whilst Tottenham’s Daniel Levy has (quite reasonably) made a point of re-iterating his demands that United pay the highest possible fee for Dimitar Berbatov, it was understood that it was equally if not more important for Spurs to secure a replacement striker before allowing the Bulgarian to leave.
It remains to be seen whether United will take Pavlyuchenko’s imminent arrival as an excuse for another round of prevarication on agreeing a fee with Spurs. That Spurs’ position on the required fee for Berbatov’s would soften as a result of the Russian’s arrival is not necessarily obvious.
It is unclear also whether Pavlyuchenko’s arrival will also lesson the chances of his countryman Andrei Arshavin joining him at the Lane.
Pavyluchenko, more of an out and out goalscorer than the more elaborate Arshavin, is precisely the kind of player Spurs have been crying out for following the departure of Keane and Defoe and the withdrawl - self-imposed or otherwise - of Berbatov.

I must say I disagree BR.
It really is irritating to wade through a lot of nonsense in order to find something which relates to the topic.
I know a lot of you like these kinds of threads - the terrible Tevez thread taught me that - but I personally find it mildly irritating, mostly because there's so much - the "Berba-words" were funny the first 5 times - but it now seems like half of the words in the dictionary has been modified.

I don't think it's a coincidence, that the most active poster in this threads a couple of weeks ago, Pogue, hasn't posted a single post in here for over a week.
He too didn't like all the off-topic stuff.

Problem in this thread is that there's so little stuff coming out so we have to do something.

You really don't. It's an odd logic that if nothing is happening then we'll just have to post a lot of nonsense instead - then there should be a Berbatov thread in the General where people, who don't like the transfer inactivity, could post stuff like 'words made out of Berbatov'.

If there's nothing to discuss then that's it really in my book.

I'm not talking about yours or BeardedGenius' photoshop-pictures as they actually related to the topic in some way, and were funny - not that I should or would be the judge as to what's funny and what's not, but the images wouldn't have been funny either if they were posted by every single poster on here every third minute.
lorcanjc said it quite well when he described it as "spam".

Again, I can see a lot of you like these threads, and thus I haven't said anything, but just wanted to defend my opinion here.

It was the exact same thing that happened to the Tevez thread which in the end got moved to the General.

Now, how about that Berbatov transfer, eh?

Post as much as you want. You basically own this thread anyway. Another day closer to the Berb, I hope.
If things don't start to perculate from now on we could lose our berb. We need to be hearing stuff tomorrow on negotiations and meetings. I fear for our sanity otherwise.....and although I enjoy long threads this one could become terminal very quickly.

Come now, it doesn't take too long to skip thro all the posts....I do it every day in a couple of minutes. And as I say, if you want news then newsnow fulfills all your dreams.
Yes, it delves into the depths sometimes, all long threads do, but there have been some excellent posts all the way through. This thread is entertaining. You post in other threads and you'll get a reply tomorrow. Many of you spend many hours in the general talking about everything under the sun, a lot of it humourous. It's rare to get a football thread, where United are concerned, that contains both humour and serious comment. I for one grab it while I can cos I can't discuss Hargreaves and Carrick for more than ten minutes. I'd sooner be on the beach.

You really don't. It's an odd logic that if nothing is happening then we'll just have to post a lot of nonsense instead - then there should be a Berbatov thread in the General where people, who don't like the transfer inactivity, could post stuff like 'words made out of Berbatov'.
Many people pop in here on occasions to see if there's any news. If not they will post a "quickie" and disappear. A berbalicious, or a berbiturate. And of course this gets reflected along and so we go on. With almost a million views this thread must have something going for it! . When anyhting new pops up the discussion turns serious again and there's little what you call "spamming" in here. I wouldn't call it spamming in here though. It's more like berbing. And it is, sort of, on topic.
What really gets me though is that folks don't have to come into the thread if they don't like the banter. There's no way a long thread like this can survive without the occasional lapse into humour. Its who and what we are. (me anyway). And last but not least...this is the transfer forum and we are all at home in our muppetland. Are you saying that we're not even good muppets now?
