Berbatov

?.....

was watching the game. He had about 5 touches of the ball. Did alright but nothing major. One decent first time pass to bent and that was the best thing he did. Spurs were shite in the final third before he came on and after

Too soon to judge modric and dos santos will do well attack wise but he is quite slight and will find it hard to impose himself against some teams I reckon

As little as Spurs did inside the final third, Berbatovs touches played a part in what they actually did.

He only had 30 mins to make a difference, and I believe he did, but still wasn't enough.

I want my god damn berbatov shirt, finish the fecking transfer already

tbh, he was talking a fair amount of rubbish today.

among his gems: the seven-subs rule should be scrapped (despite the fact that it now brings us in conformity with Europe and will allow more young players to get a bit of game time); that the Spurs should go long every time rather than pass it about probing for an opening; that Modric won't make it in this league, all on the evidence of a single game, and that the first of the season....

had me rolling my eyes after a bit.

I know ya, that was a ridiculous comment about the subs. It makes it easier for the manager and gives more tactical options depending on how the game is going.

He's living in the past, back in his day when there was only one sub.

I agree with him about Modric though. He has alot of work to do based on what I saw today.

...guys, if Fergie was on that Everton-Blackburn match... that would probably meen that the first option is Santa Cruz (and I really dont like that guy, good in the air but technically very average)...

There is no way Blackburn will let Santa Cruz go. Forget him.

he didn't do a lot and the bent chance aside they were kinda limp. Also someone of his quality, you'd expect to make a difference when players are tiring so the one or two things he did, he should do with his ability

For me there was nothing much, from our point of view is fine. Spurs lost and Berbatov will probably end up at United

About lou, watching mutv it's clear he doesn't want berbatov. He's not keen on the fee (because of his age) and questions his character so it's not surprising he wants to see us bring in someone different

I don't think Sir Alex was scouting btw. You never know though -gulp-

We could get Santa Cruz for cheaper than Berbatov. He's not good enough, but that's just stupid.

If we didn't show any interest in Berbatov then he would be in the exact same situation as Santa Cruz.

He's handed in a Transfer Request
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...t-to-reignite-Man-United-move---Football.html

Berbatov has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford, with Sir Alex Ferguson known to be a big fan of the 27-year-old.

United are thought to have tabelled a £20 million bid, but Spurs are insisting that only a £30m offer will prize the forward from White Hart Lane.

Berbatov is keen on a move to the reigning Premier League champions and has taken the action of requesting a transfer to prevent the opportunity from stalling completely.

A friend of Berbatov is quoted in the Sun as saying: "Dimi's decided to put in a transfer request. He can't wait to go to Old Trafford and play for United.

"He feels he behaved professionally throughout his period. He has never spoken publicly on the situation out of respect for Tottenham.

"However, he does not want to miss out on the start of United's season and he feels that was his only option left."

Rather than retain a striker who wants to be elsewhere, Tottenham are likely to allow the move, provided they find a replacement.

Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz has been linked with a switch to Spurs, as has Seville's Freddie Kanoute, although the £12m asking price for a 30-year-old would be a stumbling block.

I'm genuinely amazed at the amount of people who are in a thread called "Berbatov" but keep mentioning alternative targets and/or criticising the one player Fergie wants to sign and who will almost certainly end up playing for United within a fortnight.

Some simple facts for you.

SAF has identified Berbatov as the player we need.

SAF is almost never wrong when it comes to signing strikers. He's an ex-striker himself and this shows in his transfer dealings. His record in signing top strikers is second to none. The closest a striker that SAF signed has ever come to being a flop (Forlan) went on to top score in La Liga, the following season.

If SAF wants Berbatov, then he is exactly the player we need. Not Villa, not Pavyluchenko, not Santa fecking Cruz.

We are also far too far down the road in this saga to suddenly change our target. That has never happened before and it won't now. When SAF identifies a target, the only way he ever gives up is if another club gazumps us.

I know that debate is healthy but the sooner you gimps wake up, smell the coffee and take these facts on board the better.

I agree there ya. He doesn't want Berbatov.

When Lou is on and transfers are being mentioned, as soon as money is mentioned, Lou isn't interested

I'm so pleased it looks like we've finally got him.

the only one he's keen on at any price is messi :)

Spot on. But the phrase "pissing against the wind" comes to mind.

Good post. Somehow the 'Modric is shit and won't make it' crap sums up the last 20 pages of this thread.

What part of the country were they getting into a car?

What times roughly was it shown on SSN?

It was shown at 6ish and 7ish at least. No idea where they were, all I can tell you is that Berbatov had suit trousers on and a dark shirt. Berbs got into the driving seat as though it was his car. They were both smiling.

We are getting him on Monday. He'll be flying in, have his medical and unveil by Sir Alex.

Watch this space.

Now watch the Sun pick up on this for tomorrow's headline.

poyet on 5 live, asked

"is there any update on the future of berbatov"

"he came on for 20 minutes, very professional so er we will just have to Wait and see"

I agree with him about Modric though. He has alot of work to do based on what I saw today.

you simply can't write off a player after one game in a new league, and that the first one.

plenty of players have struggled their first few games, sometimes even their first season. look at Evra, to name a recent example.

once they know what this league is about, they will be able to kick on. i can't say Modric will do that, but to write him off is foolish.

Fergie is stubborn so if it is berbatov we want, we will get him. We waited for Hargreaves, Ruud and we'll be patient again. Some people are too flippant and that's just how it is.

It doesn't mean they're wrong, it's just they cannot handle the pressure but Sir alex can. I mean, look at all the people that wanted ronaldo gone because they'd had enough. I think Sir Alex, ultimately knew the score better and got a better result so patience

If anything it's the cnuts in the media that have as much to blame as anyone because no one knows how far we are or how close the deal actually is

Dong, Bellion? Maybe at a stretch Saha?

When fit, Saha is one of the best strikers around. He was immense for the first half of last season, and if he stayed fit, I don't doubt that he would play most matches for us.

I'm still a big fan of Saha, but I wouldn't think that he has justified his transfer fee over the course of the 4(?) years he's been with us.

I did say at a stretch though.

I went into a cold sweat thinking 'Benni McCarthy' :nervous:

We know how fergie likes a cheap option......

McCarthy was kept out of the side by Jason Roberts, who was also the best forward on show today. Then Yakubu. Then Santa Cruz. But Santa Cruz was the one who put the ball in the back of the net.
