Berbatov

Berbatov is the one - end of story.

Fergie probably only went to the game because it's just down the road.

There was no need for him to attend a match to see what Santa Cruz or any other Everton/Blackburn player is like, because he'll know them all inside out as it is.

Here is Poyets interview with the BBC -

"Nothing too report"."Wait and see".Other words nothing as happened since we put a bid in for him (allegedly) of 20 mil in july.

Ramos Coy Over Berbatov

Tottenham manager Juande Ramos played a straight bat to all queries about the future of star striker Dimitar Berbatov amid continued speculation he is set to join Manchester United.

The Bulgarian has been linked with a £25million move to Old Trafford but Ramos was adamant on Saturday, after the 2-1 defeat to Middlesbrough in their opening Barclays Premier League game, that no offer had been put in for the player and that Berbatov had not formally requested a transfer.

After seeing his side beaten by goals from David Wheater and ex-Spurs forward Mido, Ramos said: "Obviously we have been concentrating on the game and since Friday our minds have been on the game.

"For the moment Berbatov is a Spurs player. We are happy with him, he is part of the Spurs squad and there is nothing to say about it, I don't have any comment to make on it."

Berbatov was introduced as a 65th-minute substitute, but Ramos insisted the decision to start the match with him on the bench had nothing to do with the player's state of mind.

"We actually opted for Giovani (dos Santos) because we thought that his speed would be something that would trouble Middlesbrough," Ramos added.

"However, as Middlesbrough tired in the game we thought it might be the right moment in the game to throw on Berbatov."

Asked if he wanted Berbatov to stay, he replied: "Of course, I love great players."

He also insisted United were yet to make a renewed bid for the player, while hinting that Spurs' own recruitment drive might not be over yet with Russian star Andrei Arshavin still linked with a move to north London.

He said: "We have lost one forward (Robbie Keane). Let's just see if we're capable of adding to the squad in one or two areas, putting an end to any purchases and then seeing how we can get everyone to play as a team and as an efficient unit."

The last paragraph says it all really. They have to replace Berbatov before letting him leave.

Exactly what I was told.

I'm genuinely amazed at the amount of people who are in a thread called "Berbatov" but keep mentioning alternative targets and/or criticising the one player Fergie wants to sign and who will almost certainly end up playing for United within a fortnight.

Some simple facts for you.

SAF has identified Berbatov as the player we need.

SAF is almost never wrong when it comes to signing strikers. He's an ex-striker himself and this shows in his transfer dealings. His record in signing top strikers is second to none. The closest a striker that SAF signed has ever come to being a flop (Forlan) went on to top score in La Liga, the following season.

If SAF wants Berbatov, then he is exactly the player we need. Not Villa, not Pavyluchenko, not Santa fecking Cruz.

We are also far too far down the road in this saga to suddenly change our target. That has never happened before and it won't now. When SAF identifies a target, the only way he ever gives up is if another club gazumps us.

I know that debate is healthy but the sooner you gimps wake up, smell the coffee and take these facts on board the better.

cole / collymore...

im a bit annoyed berbatov didnt join us when he had the chance rather than going to spurs... but it does show saf has been interested in him for a long time and although 25-30 million is a lot for a player his age its not as if his game is based on raw pace so there is no reason he could not give us 5 years of top quality... who knows hes quite similar to teddy... though i doubt he will be knocking round till hes 40...

cole / collymore...
.

I'm not sure if that's true, though. The rumour at the time was that Fergie called Frank Clarke about Collymore, but Clarke wasn't there to answer the phone. And Fergie then set his sights on Cole. I wonder what really happened.

The thing with Ferguson is when he identifies a player he wants, he rarely gves up. Whilst other managers go for the biggest name available (e.g. Villa, Ronaldinho, Eto'o etc), Ferguson goes for the player that he feels suits Manchester United the most. It's why United transfer targets are always expensive.....but time and time again he shows that he knows best. whilst most people on here were up in arms that he spent close to £40 million on Carrick and Hargreaves (instead of a "star" like Messi etc), his belief that they had the attributes thatwould givebring us the best chance of winning was emphatically rewarded. Berbatov is no different....yes we could get a player who is either younger, cheaper, possibly better in some areas, taller, faster etc but I trust Ferguson to get the player who will be best suited to the squad and if that means paying for it, so be it.

If he signs, I hope he doesn't spend too much time on the bench - becoming a Sub-berb.
