Lets also not forget that for the last 2 Summers Fergie has tried to sign an established centre forward, if this happened it'd be a green light for Welbeck to move (in my opinion).

Done deal.

Deets known?
I don't see why Sunderland being in the market for a striker suddenly means we're going to sell Welbeck. Whether or not Sunderland have a vacancy up front their will obviously be other clubs willing to sign a talented young English striker who has proven he can score goals in the Premier League.
Whether or not Welbeck is let go depends on Fergie's transfer plans this summer, the ins and outs at Villa and Sunderland are irrelevant.
Besides, even if we're only discussing Sunderland's options up front, why is everyone forgetting about Frazier Campbell?

VILLA SIGN DARREN BENT IN RECORD DEAL
Aston Villa have smashed their transfer record in signing Sunderland striker Darren Bent in a deal which could eventually be worth £24million.
Villa are splashing out an initial £18million for Bent but additional add-ons mean the final figure could rise by another £6million.
The England player is in line to make his debut in Saturday evening's home Barclays Premier League clash with Manchester City.
The four-and-a-half year deal was completed on Tuesday after Bent agreed personal terms and passed a medical.
Bent's capture surpasses Villa's previous transfer record of £12million which was paid for James Milner (Newcastle) and Stewart Downing (Middlesbrough) respectively.
The 26-year-old moved from Tottenham to the Stadium Of Light 18 months ago and scored 25 goals in his first season for the Black Cats.
Bent has been less prolific during the current campaign but has scored 81 Premier League goals in the last five seasons - a figure only bettered by Didier Drogba and Wayne Rooney on 82 apiece.
Bent began his career with Ipswich a decade ago and also had a spell with Charlton before a £16.5million switch to Tottenham in 2007.
He spent two years at White Hart Lane before moving to Sunderland during the summer of 2009.
In total he has scored 128 league goals in 308 appearances.
Bent has won seven senior England caps and scored his first goal for his country during the Euro qualifier with Switzerland in Basle in September.
His signing will take Villa's potential spending in this transfer window close to the £30million mark after already signing Lyon midfielder Jean Makoun for £6million.
Villa boss Gerard Houllier is also still interested in Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam and is looking to bring in a new left-back.
Bent said: "Aston Villa is a massive football club and as soon as I knew they were interested in signing me I wanted to join.
"The size of the football club and the history of the club are major reasons for me coming here.
"There are some top, top players here too, real quality, and I've been able to speak to the manager and the owner about their ambitions for the club.
"I'm very excited about being a part of what we hope to achieve."
However, Sunderland boss Steve Bruce was not happy to be losing the England striker.
He said: "It's hugely disappointing that Darren has decided that his future lies away from Sunderland and the players, our supporters and the club as a whole have every right to feel massively let down.
"The timing is especially hard to take, given that we are progressing positively and are in a great position to push on.
"Everyone has been nothing but supportive of Darren in his time at Sunderland but it's obvious he's not been himself in training and we've certainly not seen the best of him in games in recent weeks - and we now understand why.
"I've always stated that my aim is to build a talented, young squad for the long-term to help the club achieve sustained success and I want Sunderland fans to know that our ambitions haven't changed on that front."
Black Cats chairman Niall Quinn added: "Darren has now left the club and it's important we move on quickly.
"We've worked hard in the last 36 hours to get what we feel is a fair price for him. Of course it presents us with significant challenges from a football perspective which we didn't envisage, but we'll deal with it and are working hard to find a solution both in the short-term and more importantly the longer term."
Since 2005, he has scored 81 league goals, with only Manchester United's Wayne Rooney and Chelsea forward Didier Drogba ahead of him in the scoring charts, with 82.
Villa need a striker but im shocked if Sunderland are willing to sell the man they have relied on for goals for so long.
€40m, around £33,5m is what I've heard.
24m (including potential add-ons) is an amazing price for Bent: I can only imagine that Villa's owner is panicking about the prospect of relegation because at this rate they are going to rack up another big accounting loss.
Still, Spurs get 10% of the profit made by Sunderland beyond the 16.5m they paid Spurs for Bent, so I'm not complaining .... every little helps.
Redknapp´s wife Sandra.Indeed. Just imagine how much Harry's mum would be going for!
*Thanks to ACEtheORIGINAL for that lame gag![]()
Nail on the head.
Feck knows why people have decided they can read his mind and he'll be banging on Fergie's door demanding to leave the local club he grew up supporting.
I can only assume they're projecting their own wishes to get rid of homegrown talent and buy in a who's who of muppet transfer targets in mainland Europe.
This reminds me of that whole Villa bidding 16m for Kevin Phillips in 2002 palaver. Mental.
This was the same Niall Quinn who claimed - on the official Sunderland site - that the deal for Bent from Spurs was for 10m only, when the Spurs legally-required statement to the Stock Exchange confirmed it was for 16.5m.In the January window two years ago, Tottenham lodged an official bid with Sunderland of £25 million for Kenwye Jones. I remember creating the thread on here and Glastonspur denying it ever happened despite Niall Quinn saying so on the Sunderland website.

Thus he is proven to tell whatever lies he thinks will please the Sunderland fans.
Spurs paid 16.5m for Modric: the notion that Spurs would offer 25m for Kenwynne Jones (FFS!) is completely without credibility.
The price is 24m, including future potential add-ons.... 18m is about the going rate for a Darren Bent at the moment. ... .

Well, mostly the add-ons do get paid eventually - as happened with Carrick, as happened with Bent's sale to Sunderland etc etc. What are the add ons though? It always annoys me when they are quoted in full for the transfer when they have not been realised. Most of the time it's just the media being lazy.
We had this with Carrick when we only paid 14m upfront and the media quoted the adds on as if they had been paid to the full 18.6m. Same with Rooney. Generally if the add ons have been paid then he has been successful with the club so the extra would be worth it and in essence pay for themselves.

You can't just ignore add-ons as if they don't exist.
The question then becomes is Bent worth 24m? Personally I think not.
