SAF usually four strikers in his first-team squad. Rooney, Berbatov and Hernandez make up three of that number. Welbeck is head of the queue for the fourth slot and still only 20 years old. Absolutely no reason to doubt Fergie's comments about him being part of our long-term plans.
 
Stupid really, but those saying he aint worth 18 mill. If he scores 12-15 league goals (which he is capable of) between now and end of the season then it is probably money well spent. He is a proven PL goal scorer so I am not shocked at his price but I am shocked that he would want to leave

It's not Steve Bruce who is driving this though.

It's being reported that Villa made enquiries and / or bid on Friday evening and Bent has subsequently submitted a transfer request this morning.

I've been watching Sunderland quite a bit this season due to Welbeck, and Bent has to be one of the most frustrating players in the league. He annoys the shit out of me, particularly when I've got money on Sunderland scoring goals. £18m is ridiculous.

For a shit load of cash that he might feel would be better spent on other areas of the team? like central midfield for example?

I doubt it'll happen, as one caftard above mentioned, Sunderland don't want this, Bent and Villa do.
 
It's highly probable that now Brucey will go for N'Zogbia and Rodallega, would be two good signings for Sunderland if Bent Leaves.

You have missed the point. You have seen something of Welbeck this season that you think instantly warrants a place in the forward line of Manchester United. He still has a long way to go. Only one person will make the judgement on if he is good enough. I can see him being sold/part of a deal, no matter how good you think he is.
 
Still don't get why he would suddenly want to move like this. He's in a team that's doing very well, unlike Aston Villa. He has formed a good strike partnership with Gyan and Welbeck and seemed to be happy. Aston Villa must be really desperate to agree to a crazy deal like this.

Hope it works out for them.

If he wants off, it'll be a different matter.. Why assume he does?
He is a local kid who grew up at United, unlike Pique and Rossi.
He is comfortable in England.. Why would he rush into asking for a move when he knows he has age on his side.. Another loan deal if needed and he can stake a claim, give himself a proper shot at playing for United before(if) he decides to move on..

Thats how I look at it. He shouldnt be in any hurry to leave

Feck knows why people have decided they can read his mind and he'll be banging on Fergie's door demanding to leave the local club he grew up supporting.

I can only assume they're projecting their own wishes to get rid of homegrown talent and buy in a who's who of muppet transfer targets in mainland Europe.
 
Don't see any reason for Welbeck to leave, but if he does I'll be mighty displeased.
 
Bruce seems to have excellent judgment in the transfer market. 18 Million for a 29 year old is not bad at all and surely Bruce has something up his sleeve and it probably will be Welbeck if he is prepared to let Bent go. Bruce bought a laughing stock in Bramble for 1 Million and turned him into a good defender and got Cattermole for a good price and did the same with him so he seems to know what he is doing.

However for some people actually playing is more important than which club pays you however much money, who knows if this is the case here, it's not beyond the realms of possibility.

It's not Brucey's choice to sell him though, Bent requested a transfer just after the Derby and therefore he had to accept the request. BTW Bent is 26 yrs old.
