I very much doubt Owen can take over from Bent as the main man for goals.
If Bent handed in a transfer request then Sunderland are not going to turn down such massive money for Bent. They have Welbeck and Gyan for the rest of the season with Campbell coming back shortly and have played with one up every now and then this season which does not suit Bent anyway. They can buy another good striker with that money, there are a few of Sunderland's level about.

Steve Bruce would be crazy not to sell for that kind of money.

Personally I don't think Owen is good enough to start for any decent team these days. He's an impact sub and squad player for most of the better teams so I don't think he'd replace Bent at Sunderland.
We might be able to negotiate that into any deal. I just hope we can keep Welbeck.
It makes sense for them personally. The link up play between Welbeck and Gyan has been great, at least it was early on.

Why are people worried about how this affects Danny? It's not our or his problem that somebody is crazy enough to pay such an inflated fee for a team mate at Sunderland. Fergie has said Welbeck is coming back, is in his first team plans, and he is under contract here. The fact that Sunderland have been offered an insane amount for Bent doesn't change that one iota.
Welbeck will be here next season and beyond, he along with the likes of Evans, Rafael, Cleverley, Anderson, and Nani will form the nucleus of a vibrant, young team for our future.

I personally can't see Welbeck coning back to sit on the bench. He's done well for Sunderland but I can't see him breaking into United's first team regularly. Rumours up here reckon he'll sign permenantly with Sunderland in the summer. Probably give United first option on him.

Gyan's better than Bent IMO. Sunderland beat Chelsea 3:0 without Bent in the team. Good deal for sunderland, not sure about Villa, they fear relegation obviously.

Welbeck ain't going nowhere. He wasn't sent on loan with a view to signing permanently, he was sent with a view to returning a better, more experienced player. Fergie has said he is returning and is part of his plans at United. What more do you need to show he's not for leaving?

This deal has to be all about Gyan. They signed him for 13m and he's not really played as often as you would expect after such a high profie and large fee transfer. I think Brucey feels he's now settled in nicely and is ready to start every week. Essentially this could be seen as making 5m available for something else, 11m should this mad deal rise to 24m. Gyan and 11m or Bent? I know which I'd rather have. Nice deal for them. What are Villa on though?

Welbeck isn't a 28 year old who we'd payed a record fee for, nor is he someone who flopped for two seasons and whom we are paying a club record salary.
Welbeck is a product of our academy showing huge promise, why on earth would we sell him? He's part and parcel of our plans for the future, along with the many other young talents we've got at the club. Darren Bent moving for an unrejectable fee doesn't change that.
Crazy money if true, you have to think Bruce has a back up plan ready, even if the news has just broke a deal like this doesn't just happen over night.
