Benjamin Pavard

AWB is good enough to be an outstanding 1v1 RB rotation option.

Dalot just isn’t quite great at anything so I suspect he’s the one that would lose out here.
Agree that he's very good 1v1. Whether that's good enough to keep him at the club, I'm unsure. Dalot looked decent enough up until the World Cup. Then nowhere near good enough up until the end of the season. A top class right back is a must for me.

Personally think this is our only chance to get him whereas can always come back for either of Todibo/Tapsoba next summer

I don't think saying you don't want to play mostly as a right back means a bad attitude. It probably doesn't mean will never play right back if there are injuries and the squad needs him. That would be an example of unprofessional and a bad attitude as it is expected you fight for your team when required.

If it's true (and I don't know that it is an accurate representation anyway) I think it'd be more like he's saying he doesn't want to join a club where he's primarily considered to be a right back and will rarely get to play in his favourite position. Nothing wrong with that. A lot of players would see things that way, especially the ones that are good enough to hold such an expectation. It's just an upfront part of a negotation. Same as salary, bonuses, understanding the sporting project, understanding how the manager sees you. It's not like he'd be conning anyone if he explicitly says that. It's part of his reasoning for accepting a particular proposal and as long as both parties understand each other there is no issue.

Just don't sign the fella if he's saying he wants to play centre back primarily and then play him as a right back all year. Problem avoided.

Perhaps we should go for Todibo/Tapsoba and then next year focus on attacking RB like maybe this Vanderson who has been touted on here

This is clearly not an easy decision for Erik as both him & Todibo would play CB role differently

I’d prefer Todibo but this is not exactly a signing to complain about either, played at an elite level and has so much winning experience. Not an old man either.

We will buy Todibo next season. Relax guys. We need Pavard for the here and now. Varane ain’t going anywhere.

Strange if we get him. Will want to start every game, and not at right back, I believe that’s part of the reason he wants to leave Bayern?

I'd prefer Todibo tbh, Pavard will be another defender that lacks pace.

finances will play a key role here too. 27-year-old Pavard with one year left on his contract will surely be cheaper than 23-year-old Todibo with four years left on his contract.

Yep, had a look through a Bayern forum and they seem pretty clear on the point that he wants to play CB and not RB.

Is that even true about him not wanting to play right back?

Personally, I don't think that's the reason why he wants to leave Bayern. He is professional, he played as right back when France won the WC.

I think he is just looking for a move to a club where he will be much more appreciated rather than having to constantly prove himself again and again while the club is bringing in new players for CB and RB roles: Mazraoui, Cancelo, De Ligt, Upamecano, Kim.. Probably he wants to be trusted more as he deserves due to his quality and experience.

Maybe it's true that he is preferring to play at CB rather than RB, but to say that he doesn't want to play RB and wants to leave because of that is a little bit too much and it would be very unprofessional of him IMO.

How would that be unprofessional, let alone very unprofessional? He has not refused to play where his managers asked him but he is entitled to choose a place where he will be considered differently, it's not unprofessional.

If we sign him he'll be the starting right back with one of AWB/Dalot probably leaving late in the window.

This would be a great signing. Him and Varane on the right side, martinez and Shaw on the left. That’s some defence that. If it’s true he’d only cost around 27m aswell then that’s a no brainer. We’re getting 30 for Maguire.

Would be a good singing but can't help but feel we're missing a trick not having a young CB develop alongside Varane whilst we have him.
