Bebe

We paid 7.4 million or something for him iirc. It was reflected in full in the accounts and also told to investors during the roadshows or conference call we were doing at the time.

@Amol on the previous page.

I know from what we have seen that it isn't great. He doesn't look like a world dominator. But he does have SOME potential. Being harsh on Bross but it seems the 'he can't cross. That neuclear explosion night against Wolves' comes up nearly every time he has been spoken about.

It's a product of a throw-away society. Ando, Welbeck, Nani. Lets just feck them off and get someone who can do the business in. Bebe let's just feck him off cause he can't cross as that game clearly shows he's shite.

I dunno, for 7m and someone with at least 'something' of a possibility of making it at United. It's not the worst piece of business in the world albeit how shocking it may seem. Sometimes you get Vidic for ~8m (Was it 7 or something?) and sometimes you get Kagawa and RvP for 12 and 24. They are worth way more in the current market and at the time Vidic probably was as well.

More 'win some lose some' for me than 'what a terrible terrible shameful thing to have conducted that business. I would close the doors and go into hiding because of it.'

Why don't you just edit it out yourself? Think about it next time before you just go spouting shite like the other wums in the thread.

Dont even know what you are talking about. Edit what out? And you are the wum, posting pathetic insults and smilies instead of trying to argue. Keep it up kiddo.

Bebe was a terrible piece of business. 7m for someone who took years of training with the best youth setup in the country to become a decent player, despite being 20 years old already at the time of the purchase. There are no comparable players at the same age and (lack of) ability in SAF's reign. And yea, he scored a deflected goal in a dead rubber game in the CL - a game that was almost a reserve game in terms of how much effort and resources we allocated to it. If thats enough to make someone succesful purchase in your eyes then good for you - you will never be disappointed by any transfer.

Comparing Bebe to players like Solskjær and Hernandez is an insult to the two latter players. Thats the point I made that you ignored in favor of being ultra-defensive about a player that will never make a useful contribution at the club and whom we will never make a profit of.

How about actually responding seriously to any of my posts? You havent done so yet. Im not sure if you think Im someone else but I havent even posted in this thread before taking offense to the Bebe transfer being compared to "punts" at players like Solskjær and Hernandez.

All of the players above are punts though, but there is never a way to tell before you'll see how they end up. Bebe is doing good in Portugal now, and maybe he'll come back with a better understanding of football at top level and some much needed confidence. I really, really want him to succeed, either with us or atleast at the top level because the story is simply a great one.

There's no doubting his strenghts, and it's hard to hide his weaknesses but his strenghts are more those that is hard to teach (i.e physical strenght, pace) whilst things like crossing technique is easier to develope as you learn the game.

I still believe in you, Bebe!

Don't take it out on others just because you've missed the point.

Fantastic. Bebe the goal machine strikes again.

I'm looking forward to him being tried out as a squad player next season. He has very good attributes - and I think with time, he can be a decent player for us. The pressure that was on him in the first season, with his depressing past, it didn't really surprise me that he didn't set the world a light. I bet he was just still in euphoria of reaching United after playing in the homeless world cup not long before.

Hernandez did you watch the summer pre season tour matches? There was one game that he came on for half an hour and he was just running the show playing from the left wing.

Where do we fit him in, even if he's back ?

Think we'll sell him, and it'll be better for his development too.

I think he goes on loan, to either a championship or premier league team next year and see how he gets on.

I see him playing well in a front 3 and play the type of role that Welbeck has had this season.

There is always room for a wide player at United..
Giggs will eventually retire.. maybe the season after next.

Bebe will take over from Giggs.. its bound to happen.

No Pressure. :p We bought Zaha anyways.

Yeah, we could do that, i guess if he develops.

But remember we had given the Turkish club a option to buy him for a couple of million when he went on loan there earlier. Possibly there might be a option this loan too.

feck.
Forgot about Zaha.
We'll have to sell Rooney to make room for Bebe up front then.

No official word on that. It came from a goal.com article iirc.
probably rubbish

Wasn't the deal a loan with an option to buy? Can't see him returning really. We offloaded Diouf and he is setting the bundesliga alight, as did Tosic and he never returned either, plus they were both far more talented than Bebe.

Fergie wanted to keep Tosic. he wanted first team football.
Mame was unfortunate.. too many strikers.

Bebe isnt going anywhere. He'll bulldoze his way into the first team squad within a couple of seasons.

Another good goal eh, yet people think he's so talentless and limited. He's not a winger and people need to forget the wolves match.

There's also all the reserves matches in which he's basically been pants.

He'll probably turn into a good player once his coaching catches up to the level it should be by his age. But to hope that someone who at times has struggled to even look like a professional footballer will become good enough for Manchester United's first team is too much of a stretch. He's clearly doing better in an environment where the pressure is less out of proportion with his ability. If I was him, I'd try and stay there.

Being deadly serious, I never once thought of Bebe as a bad footballer. I think he would be quite decent as a striker. Not at United, maybe. But still.

I think certain players play better when they're surrounded by better players. You could just argue it's because they're shit but I do think Bebe would stand a better chance of shining if he was playing alongside first team players.

I agree he has at times looked shit and has displayed poor touches, but if you're able to look past the cracks then you can see talent there.

I definitely agree. He has these strange matches where for most of it he looks like he doesn't know what to do with a football but then he'll go on a run and beat three men from standing. That said, I think the problem with seeing talent 'through the cracks', so to speak, is that you often then overrate that talent. If he were to realise that occasionally-glimpsed potential, and thus be judged by the same standards as other professional players, it would become silly to suggest him as a United first-teamer. He'd be an Nzogbia-level talent.

True, but then you still have to take into consideration his late development. He came to this country full of confidence and then was shot down to the ground through the media, the fans and a couple of bad first team performances.

You're right, maybe I am seeing past the cracks and then overrating him, but at the same time I don't think I am because I'm not claiming he's a star or that he would definitely have a career here. I would just like to see him given a chance without the anti bias towards him. That game in the summer he played like a bloody superstar for the 30 minutes that he was on and I know he was playing well before his injur hat Besiktas.

There's a player in him for sure, maybe it won't be at Manchester United, but there's a better player than a lot of people give him credit for. I would just like to see him stay with us for a bit longer to find out if we can find that player or not.

Fergie does love a late bloomer, but Bebe is almost the opposite profile of the usual 'project' player.

Normally it's a highly intelligent/ tactically sound and skilled player who can't get games because they are late developers physically, but Bebe is a physical player who has some level of natural ability and no game intelligence.

According to a Portuguese poster, he was again awarded the MOTM.
3 MOTM in first five matches in a very good league is pretty good.

Sorry for the bump but I've just remembered this....

Manchester United are getting a truly remarkable kid,” he said. “Remember that until he was 16 he was just playing with his friends. He has developed incredibly quickly. The first time he plays for United — and I am sure he will make it there — people will notice him because he is different. He has skills that not many players in that League have. He is also physically imposing. He will be like Ronaldo in that point of view. But you will have to wait for him to be ready. I don’t just mean in football terms, but mentally. One day he had nothing and then the next day he had everything. That will be a shock to him, even if he hasn’t realised it yet. He was living in the shelter every day he was with us. He travelled in by public transport. He was like a child in that way.”

His former agent, Goncalo Reis, has also been singing his praises, claiming that he will one day surpass Nani, who is acting as the player’s minder.
“I know the qualities of Bebe and one day he will jump into the first team,” he said. “It won’t be easy but he will get his space. He will not be as good as Ronaldo but will be better than Nani. Somewhere in between. But he will be humble and he will learn. He will be like a little boy with Ferguson. He will just wait for the orders. Then, one day, he will explode on the field.”

One day lads.... one day....

Hopefully, would be the most incredible turn around.
