Would you be happy to see Jose Mourinho become next United manager?

The clearest indication that LvG will be on his bike over the summer is the fact we didn't buy in the January window (despite very obviously needing to).

We're clearly not allowing him to spend/plan in order to hold back funds for a new manager.

Yeah not really, we broke the club transfer record on Mata just over two months before sacking Moyes.

I've bought about 20 cars in my life, no idea how much I've spent but let's say £150k in total.
My mate says "Blimey all that money you've spent and all those cars you've got, you could open a garage"
I reply "No mate, I've only got 2 cars and they're not worth £150k"
"Jesus, you're bloody useless at this garage management lark" he retorts

I sigh in despair
But going by your logic, LvG has bought ten cars, leased one, opted not to continue the lease on that one, and sold one. So he still has nine of those ten cars he bought sitting in his garage.

Basically your analogy is awful.

So? That was clearly an indication of faith, at that time, in Moyes.

The fact that the BBC are reporting that we've approached Mourinho, along with all the other noise about it, and a completely silent transfer window do indicate to me he's a lame duck manager. Do you disagree?

I only disagree that signing no one is an indication that Van Gaal is gone, if good players were available we would have signed them regardless of whether we are planning to replace Van Gaal or not.

Mata was a panic buy because we were looking like we hadn't a hope of making top four. It was in no way a show of faith in Moyes for me. If anything they were trying to prop him up, when they already likely knew the job was beyond him.

Not saying i believe this but you could actually interpret us not signing anyone in January as an indication that the board trust the current manager with the current squad to make top 4.

See that stuff can be viewed either way.

Personally i think theres a good chance we will replace Van Gaal.

Anything new happening? Cant be bothered to read through the last 10 pages of LvG, Moyes and our transfers. I wish people would just discuss Mou and stay on topic, instead of discussing what went wrong/right the last years, like basically every second thread on here.

Yep it's sure gone quiet on the Jose front. Can only assume they had talks and probably wont announce anything until the end of the season?

This is what I'm thinking, announcing something now would look like the club is undermining LVG. Might as well wait until the end of the season to make a smoother transition.

Yep we're not cocks like the other half of Manchester. I'm still surprised they made the announcement with Pellegrini still in charge. No class.

This could make sense. It would be nice nice to let him get started earlier so he is better prepared for the summer but as long as LVG gets results Jose could be touring Europe watching players he wants to sign in the summer.

He was watching Dortmund the other day

This is the problem. Hes been buying cars when he should have been focusing on footballers.

I am just happy that 'Yes' % of votes has stayed above 80.

*cue some mofos switching votes :o

You sound like someone who wants to believe but have no confidence given our current lack of direction and nonsensical decisions.

Problem is I don't know what I want , other than the old United back.
Not convinced Jose is the solution either but what is? Is the board thinking the same?

I absolutely believe we are in serious talks with him. Why? Because we have no choice.

Guardiola is going to be managing MCFC next year
Klopp@LFC.
Chelsea may have Allegri next season and IMO he is one of the best managers in the World.
Ranieri at LFC (with probably more funds to buy better players...only this time with belief that they belong at the top)
Wenger at Arsenal (who always gets top 4).

That's 5 teams capable of top 4 places.
And when you add in Spurs, who are capable of top 5 placing, that's 6 teams capable of occupying the top 6.
If we drop the ball now, top 6 could become a problem for us.

If we have LVG or Giggs at the helm, it'll be like taking a knife to gunfight.
We absolutely need a big hitter, with a win at all costs attitude (and yes, that includes gouging people's eyes out, and calling non scoring strikers out - I am sick and tired of being the most boring team in the league, can't score more than 1 goal/game, side passing, back passing, can't defend after conceding 1 goal, manager complaining about being sacked by the press every week, can't beat Norwich/Bournemouth unless we have Messi/Neymar/Bale in our team, etc).

Hiring Jose is like making a deal with the devil. It could be dangerous and may carry serious consequences (at a later date). But initially, he'll stamp on the opposition and grant us our wish of winning trophies. Especially if we give him whatever money he wants. And from what I understand, Woodward is prepared to break the World transfer record, 2 times over, if such a player is prepared to join us.

Is martial world class? No not yet. 3/4 of the squad wont have come to a peak by the time LVG initially planned to leave. He isnt here to buy ozil & sanchez only for mourinho to come the following season & sell them. He is building a youthful team that will peak altogether. Do you really think LVG has a plan for the future, lets not kid ourselves, he started with a 3-5-2 then eventually stumbled upon a 4-3-3 that got us the CL place last season, he then reverts this season to playing with two holding midfielders and wingers that provide no width. He seems like a man with no plan, never mind a philosophy. He bought ADM and never used him correctly, he started with Blackett and McNair last season when we had an injury crisis and all of a sudden he is a great manager who gives kids a chance - Bullshit. Just like CBJ would have an opportunity if Shaw & Rojo weren't injured.......

One of the best things about Bayern & Barca is how all the players peaked together. The same will happen to us. Unlikely, with LVG in charge almost certainly Januzaj will bugger off and probably Pereira too through lack of chances etc, its not a team that inspires me, I cant see the togetherness of a team coming through and developing into the next Barca or Bayern, at this moment there is nothing in the pipeline. We are still reliant on the form of Rooney & Carrick to play well, what does that tell you.

He could - do as you say & buy a bunch of schweinsteigers & go out to win a title but that again would only be good for his 3 year tenure & we are back where we started & living in SAF's shadow. Agree RVP was a short term signing and so is BFS, but when you spend £30m on my favourite player 'Memphis' for the future, its a gamble that has to pay off, he should have known the quality he was buying being the dutch national manager immediate before his arrival, its turning out to be a disaster.

The only way we will ever have an inch of success that arised from SAF or success seen by Barca & Bayern is to have a squad that is powerful & capable never mind the manager. The assembly of this team has been a scattergun approach at best in the transfer market, plenty of money has been thrown at it and we are still short of 4-5 players to become a championship contending side, the manager is ultimately responsible (although I don't think Woodward has helped) to assemble the team and turn them into a cohesive unit, he has been out of time for some time now.

What people want is the special one; when we should be having a special team.
We should have a special team but the point is we need someone with a vision that fits with the club, not a clustefcuk of decisions that contradict what everyone else can see is clearly wrong, LVG is not a visionary and doesn't belong at MUFC. Whether Mourinho is the answer, I don't know but he will have my backing after what I have seen from the current guy.

You see, this is the United way.

Yeah - and the way of most football clubs.

Ideally, you do what some kind soul proposed above: you tell the man in charge you aren't 100% pleased with his performance and are looking elsewhere for possible replacements, but in reality you - obviously - don't.

Players do exactly the same too. For example, Dave was in talks with Madrid for more than those fateful last few hours.

Its not legal, but no one bothers to police it.

Overall, the squad was probably weaker is what I meant. Saurez was key, but the whole team performed well above their level too, thus the scousers prematurely comparing Rodgers to SAF that season. The delusional fools.

True. Guys like Flanagan and Henderson played well above what you'd expect their level to be. Shows how momentum and positive results can utterly transform a team both individually and collectively.

For argument sake,What happens if LVG turns it around by some miracle we finish 3rd in the league and the board decide to see out his contract.
Would Mourinho wait for another year the job or tell the board give me the job in the summer or else ?

Van Goal won't be in charge next season regardless of what happens. The season has been a disaster where expectations were much higher.

That's unlikely to happen. If United have decided to negotiate with Mourinho, the contract talks will be concluded before the end of this season.

I don't see Mourinho waiting a full season. He has indicated a desire to get straght back in. The summer is about as long as he is prepared to wait for United, as long as it is agreed he will get the job.

I've not really been keeping tabs on this thread. Is it beginning to look like the ever reliable BBC is turning more click-bait with that story?

As far as I can see, yes. They posted this and then posted others later on and the following day which called their previous assertion "rumours", so I suspect they have no idea at all really.

They were just posting that in their gossip column, which is what they do all the time....report what the papers say.

Ah...the old..."he's told his friends."

Considering the BBC gain nothing from 'clicks', I'd say we definitely have held talks.
