It's quite predictable that there would be moans over Ibra' age. Even RVP was written off because of that despite his season with Arsenal. However when you take a step back and consider we're getting Ibra on a free, what the feck is there to moan about? Even if his first season for us is all that's left in the tank, it'd be worth it.

Don't know what age Ravenalli joined Middlesborough, but I thought he did really well. His white hair might have misled me though. Zola wasn't that young when he joined Chelsea I think and played on for a long time.

On another note, remember how entertaining Boro were back then.

Ravanelli, Juninho, Branco, and Emerson!

That and the fun of Merson and Gazza in the same team, plus Robbo managing them were perhaps the only joy they gave the top flight.

No doubt they're a poor version of Sunderland next year.
Which is a poor thing!

Was there for that game. Cruising at 2-0. Then all of a sudden Stevie Me had scored two.

Then that winner. Berb-tastic!

I think that was that mad season he was top scorer in the league, despite barely scoring in many games! Got 5 v Blackburn, 3 v Pool, and a few other multiples like that. A season Rooney sort of went awol

Forget about the age. Zlatan is a footballing genius. He will atleast have one more great year left.

If we get 30 PL games out of him it would be worth it. We don't need to bother him with the Europa league,League Cup or FA Cup unless we get to the latter stages.

Did Gazza play for them? I don't remember that. But yes, that late 90s boro team had a lot of flair.

You are making out as if only 2 strikers will ever play.
Think of injuries and players being rested for crucial games. Martial has had a fantastic injury record this season, but I don't expect that to continue.
All top teams IMO should have 4 strikers.
The only question mark is Rooney - he is not a great player anymore, so will Jose bench him or even sell him?
Assuming Mourinho's your manager next year I'd expect you to sign Ibrahimovic and possibly one more striker. I don't know what he'd do with Rooney but surely Mourinho would realise that he can't be relied upon.

Scholes played centre mid and as a support striker he shat on Mata for dynamism and energy. Just a better player in every sense.

That match highlights what a legendary player he could be in such illustrious company. Ran the show for us, despite us being on the losing side.. he didn't hide, he kept wanting the ball, kept moving non stop, kept us going forwards.

As for Sheringham, he was a striker and a part of a quartet, it is not remotely comparable. We had a side full of world class players so we could afford to keep Sheringham to offer us something different, add abit of guile to our usually gung ho energetic style of football... he wasn't the default setting or the guy we built a team around. Nor did we spend £40m on him.

He is not a good comparison to make. Mata would come off the bench in the 99 side and be a decent squad player but he wouldn't dislodge any of Beckham, Scholes, Keane, Giggs.. or the front two. He wouldn't do that in the 08 side either. He is not good enough, end of as a first team player for a side which aspires to be the creme de le creme of England and Europe.

I'm not saying Mata is a world great or anything mate or comparing the players directly, just that Fergies sides didn't contain only players who would be described as having pace and power.

Sheringham, Scholes and even Beckham don't really fit into that description. We need pace and power no doubt but you don't need it in every position.

If we had pace up front and on the wings, and a bit more bite in CM and quality players i mean here. Then i reckon Mata could thrive at the centre of that. He plays best in a more direct style i feel, possession football with oppositions sides camped in just doesn't suit him.

Why would Mourinho care about missing out on CL for a season? It's not like he has never won it or time is running out for him to win a 3rd.

I wouldn't be surprised if he considers PSG. They have a stronger squad compared to us and more importantly champions league football.

...and play in a league less competitive that the Scottish Premier.

He might take it if there's nothing else I suppose. But he clearly likes the PL. he wants the United job, it seems fairly clear. PSG would wait anyway I bet.

Hello darkness my old friend...

Don't think he cares that much about CL football. He isn't a player with only a very limited amout of years at his peak. I think the fact that he likes England and the scenario of being the man who saves Man Utd from the fall post-Fergie will more than outweigh CL football with PSG.

Might not care about the domestic league if he has a big bankroll and guaranteed champions league competition.

That'd be funny. Ibrahimovic rocks up here only to find out he's going to be coached by "the pompous arsehole" LVG and not Mourinho who is now managing the team Zlatan has just left.

The scenes if he goes to PSG.
I'm sure some of the people saying bullshit are typing with a bit of fear.
