Would you be happy to see Jose Mourinho become next United manager?

I think he'd score goals in England even at the age he's at now. Do you not think United need a character like that in the side?

No. Not at all. I roll my eyes when people say we need certain characters or "winners" in a side. I just want players who will play well and help us. These lads don't get to where they are unless they've got a decent attitude (for the most part). Ibra is nowhere near the answer.

It'd be glamorous bringing him in, and you can be certain he'd bring more than Rooney would at 4-5years younger.

Little bit worried about settling into a pacey, physical league, but I'd bow to those who see him more often thinking it'd work.

Would certainly bring the arrogance factor back, almost single handedly!

I've not seen a player with that kind of Ready Break glow to him since Eric. If he can score in England, he'll do so much more for the club.

To be fair, I'm not convinced either. Not sure Bastian style transfers are the way forward.

At the moment, we either need to get the Martials, or the superstars on their way down. Can't take a wanted player off the real big boys yet.

Hmm I suppose he could always end up being another Falcao. The way it's heading I think you might end up disappointed with how the summer goes for United. Ibrahimovic and Mourinho are looking likely at this point.

At least at his age, we'd temper expectations a little. Probably!

With Falcao, even I was hyped, and I'm a miserable realist

I know, don't worry I'll just start supporting City if it gets too bad.

If people had stayed on topic, this thread would be 150'ish pages instead of 350+

Falcao had been injured for 7 months with his knee injury when we signed him. I fail to see how Ibra could go the same way when he's looking as sharp as he has ever been

He's going to be 35 a month after we sign him. He simply won't be able to compete in the Premier League.

Stan Collymore saying it isn't good for Rashford and Martial is Zlatan signs for United. I think the opposite, he will take a lot of pressure off those two. He will be in the headlines, while those two can get on with their game quietly without all the weight on their young shoulders.

Yeah, if there's any top players going for free it would be a massive help. Don't know where one is though.
You don't consider Ibra to be a top player?

I don't understand you at all. When Moyes was coming you were so happy and positive but with Mourinho and Ibra its doom and gloom with you!

Do you think there's a problem with his fitness levels or he is too slow?

Martial has found a position on the left of the attack anyway, so wouldn't directly affect him, and if anything, someone with the ability to hold it would let him make more of his runs. Often he has to try and beat everyone.

Rashford is a completely different case, and shouldn't really have started about 10 of the last 12. Next season, he'd still get plenty of action, in the infamous harder second season

More because of his age than anything else. As you say though Ibrahimovic has still been scoring and is at a better level of fitness.

Name a striker arriving in the Prem above the age of 32 who has done a good job.

Henrick Larrsson had a good spell, he must have been a fair chunk over that age.
I'll have a look for some others, will check ages quickly!

Judging a player solely on his age like that is very uninformed and narrow-minded. He haven't had any serious injuries, at least not in recent years, and he's not a player that relies on pace at all. He's all about his brilliant mind, technique and strenght. He's unique, no striker like him before, and he just had his best season in 4 years with PSG.

As you say the 2nd season can see a drop in form for players and Zlatan being here would take the spotlight off Rashford. Otherwise every game he doesn't score in will be picked on. He's only a kid.

Larsson was the first example that came to mind of an older striker arriving and doing a good job. The problem is most clubs don't sign strikers over 32 anyway so there won't be many examples. Ibra isn't just your average player though.

And regardless of age I'd rather have a 35 year old Ibrahimovic to stick up front than have to resort to Fellaini, Memphis or Young when things aren't going well. We need more options.

Sheringham wasn't a spring chicken either. He did alright.

he was meaning players from outside the country, as many take time to find their feet, let alone at 35!

But yeah, we've had plenty that have shown age isn't the sole factor, quality is!

Vialli...

Ibrah isn't someone who depends on high pace. That may well override usual concerns.
Don't know what age Ravenalli joined Middlesborough, but I thought he did really well. His white hair might have misled me though. Zola wasn't that young when he joined Chelsea I think and played on for a long time.

Pretty sure Ravanelli was around 28 or so when he joined Boro.

You are making out as if only 2 strikers will ever play.
Think of injuries and players being rested for crucial games. Martial has had a fantastic injury record this season, but I don't expect that to continue.
All top teams IMO should have 4 strikers.
The only question mark is Rooney - he is not a great player anymore, so will Jose bench him or even sell him?

Checked just those two, and Ravanelli wasn't even 30, while Zola was around that.
