That seems like a distinction without a difference. If there are clear problems and steps aren't taken to address them very soon, then there's only one way things will go. Downhill. It's not fear mongering, it's a certainty.
I grew up and live in a city where the biggest professional sports team in town was absolutely dominant in the 1980s. They were an offensive powerhouse that, in many ways, changed the game. Growing up, it seemed like we had a divine right to win championships. Through mismanagement and poor coaching, we haven't won a title since 1990, and haven't made the playoffs for a decade. It's a different sport in a different country, so the comparison isn't perfect, but I've witnessed first hand how it can happen. A team like United is not immune from the effects of being poorly run (and, particularly, poorly coached) It's much better to be cognizant of the potential reality, as unpleasant as it may be, and respond appropriately.
At the end of the day, I think it's pretty clear we want the same thing. Let's hope we see some positive changes soon!
