There wont be any news till FA cup finals is done for sure..
I will think by Jun 1st, if we dont get any news means business as usual.

Why are the Italians the first to know about an English club appointing a Portuguese manager?

Why were they the first to know about a German club appointing a Spanish manager. In anycase I think they have jumped the gun here

They were the first to credibly report Pep to Bayern ? I din't know that. I just pegged them to be the Italian Daily Mail.

I wonder if this has anything to do with Everton sacking Martinez. Woodward sees that and decides to act decisively in case Moshiri makes a very tempting offer to Mourinho, promising to give him all the financing he needs to make Everton the next Chelsea / City. Maybe Woodward decided to get the thing signed, even if we arent going to make it public till next week.

Why the Italians would know about it I cant say....

I don't think it's a reaction to anything especially. It's been sorted for ages in my opinion.

Dunno mate, the merseyside press think it's going to be Koeman(literally all the newspapers have them on the front page). Now why would they go for Koeman when Mourinho is seemingly available?

Yeah, to be honest Ive been saying I thought it was sorted for ages myself. So Im inclined to agree.

Its possible that he was on a pre contract with verbal assurances. And its possible the whole thing has now been formalised. But its probably more likely this Italian guy is talking out his arse.

Well, if you come up with enough predictions one or more of them will come true sometime. We always hear about the ones that come true, but never about the multitude that are way off the mark.

Exactly. This is what made me think of it in the first place. If Mourinho really was still up for grabs they would at least be talking to him.

Whether what has happened at Everton has anything to do with the timing of our own announcements or not, the way it is being reported makes me feel even more confident (and I was already pretty bloody confident) that Mourinho is coming.

I think there may well have been preliminary discussions but no firm offer as yet.

I hope van gaal in his last press conference announces he is retiring after the final. Then the club later on announce they have agreed a deal in principle to sign mou. This way every one gets to save face. Fans clap him off at final league game and cup final. He gets a good sending off. Club can say he wasnt a faliure. players try more for him and give all for 2 games. His family can be flown over to watch the games. Perfect end for him and beginibg for united with mou.

I strongly disagree. He neither deserves clapped off after either game (even if we win he FA cup), nor a good send off.
He HAS been a failure. He doesn't deserve a perfect end.
After the petulant, deluded, arrgance hes dished up for 2 year. After his outlandish squandering of club cash for 2 years. His ridiculous stance on playing Rooney & Fellaini as his favourites. His need to play player out of position every game. His atrocious substitutions week-in, week-out. His claiming genius for playing the youth when it was down to injury. His stealing limelight from Rashford & Martials crucial goals "I told him to shoot low next time" nonsense. His treatment of Valdes. The list goes on.
He should be hounded out of OT as a disgrace.... And let's not forget, that's IF he leaves at all this summer.
I hate the man.

I'm convinced the agreement's in place. Just no point announcing it before the Cup final.

He deserves to be treated with respect even if he has been a failure.

Well at least we can draw some comfort from the fact that Mourinho has not signed for anyone else at the moment. There's nowhere else for him to go really anyway...if he wants a top job.

It's not whether Mourinho would be everyone's first choice but right now, c'mon he has to be the best choice considering where we are.

Who said anything about 31st May?

I think there may well have been preliminary discussions but no firm offer as yet.

When is this firm offer going to be discussed or don't you think that if Mourinho is coming all these details would have all been sorted out - just waiting for the announcement now

It doesn't require further negotiations if preliminary discussions have been held. All it will require is the Utd Board to give a yes or no as the minutiae will already have been ironed out.

Premliminary discussions are a long way from a final agreement and just because MEN said so means nowt.

By the way, for a laugh please see my post from November about whether I wanted Mourinho as manager

Never wanted him, never will want him, never will be a United manager

Why would they feed Sky Italia?

To be less obvious.....Obviously! ;)

Edit: it's working too. Everyone is far more chilled now. All the assured "deal has been done for ages" comments are out. Liberty atmosphere on Sunday, "Louis Van Gaal's red army' when we win, positive atmosphere for his speech, and it's "I shall see you all next year!!"

I have no doubt whatsoever he's coming and thank feck for that. Announcement immediately after the cup final and Jose in to get transfers quickly wrapped up on the targets who he without doubt has decided he wants on board.

Exciting times and we need them.

I don't quite understand when posters say "it wouldn't be announced before the final" as though the announcement makes any impact on the game whatsoever.

Its an FA Cup Final, the players have more than enough motivation to win the game regardless of whether its LVG, Giggs, Mourinho, Martinez or even Moyes in charge. I don't think they'll be distracted from the occasion or anything. If anything, it lifts the crowd that bit more, particularly for Sunday where LVG will receive an amicable reception for his speech.

Don't believe it's about the impact on the game (would probably make the players play better)
I think it's about respect for the manager from United, and I still think LvG may announce his retirement himself on Cup Final day.

I think it's more respectful. LVG could well be told in private but the public announcement could come later. Unless LVG is happy for it to be made known of course.

Still who knows. I just think it's blindingly obvious that he's taking over.

It does have an impact on players though - some may have a good relationship with LVG and a change brings uncertainty. What would Mata be thinking?

The reason they wouldn't is it would be a circus before the game. Let the team focus on the cup and not fielding questions from every man and his dog on the new manager.

If as expected we miss out on the top 4 this Sunday it wouldn't be surprising if his departure was announced very soon after, cup final or not.

Fair enough.

I really don't think it would affect the teams performance on the day of a cup final at all. They will play to their optimum level for 90 minutes regardless.

I don't see why they'd wait all this time and announce it before the last game of the season. It'll be once the season is complete imo.

To be fair, if they announced it before the last game of the season, it would give LvG a chance to say his goodbyes and he would get a good reception imo. We could go to the FA Cup final looking forward to it and he would get another good reception from the crowd.
