"Sorry Renato, you're not allowed to move to United, I want to spite them instead... .....no I don't care about your career, you'll do what you are told"

It seems likely.
I'm convinced people thought this was a documentary

My biggest worry about the renato news is if it means LvG is staying with our recent decent form. Would be idiotic but you wouldnt put it past us to keep him and miss out on Mourinho.

Sorry to all bout the Bayern question, I forgot, although I'm releived there's no better offer than us for Mourinhio.

If we were genuinely interested in Renato, it would have been a club signing anyway, same as Martial, not a Mourinho one.

We dont know if there is an offer - that's the problem.
Mourinho has said in interviews that he's had "plenty of offers", though. But we don't really know from whom. I remember him saying this in the boxing match interview, as far as I recall.

Someone suggested that Renato could have been a Mendes power-play in an effort to force our hand. Although that's probably just the tin foil hat coming out and the two are likely unrelated.

Only one he confirmed was from the Syrian national team

Hah, that's right! I forgot. Still, that's the only one that's confirmed; it's safe to assume that there could be more 'under the table', so to speak? Like Everton?

It would be so dumb should he go to Everton, though. Hilariously so.

Don't deny that - I mean an offer from Utd.

First big sign that mourihno is not coming to united. We know we have been scouting Renato Sanches for ages, Mendes clearly has been working on a deal with us.Then late on he goes to Bayern, completely out of the blue. Alarm bells are unfortunately ringing now. Van Gaal may stay another year after all.

I don't think Renato Sanches transfer to Bayern is indicative of any movement in the Mourinho story.

People are suggesting an explanation such as us rejecting Mourinho has caused Mendes to punish us by moving his client to Bayern Munich instead.

There's just so much wrong with that I don't really wanna write it out.

After this post I really do hope so

FA Cup and 4th is still failure based on the initial expectations. The idea we will stick with Van Gaal due to something like that is just typical of post-Ferguson United. Spineless.

I don't even hate Van Gaal - I just know he's failed and he should be judged by his employers accordingly.

And there's a serial winner, who a) wants the job and b) is available.

Just because we are 'said' to have watched benfica 23 times...does it mean we were watching Sanches? ..

Why even allow LVG to sign players the next manager might not like. You are then left with a Benteke at Liverpool kind of situation.

Just because he signed for Bayern, does that mean we was not pursuing him?

Di Marzio has just covered his back by saying its just a pre-agreement and Man Utd pay a fine (probably a small one) if they don't sign Mourinho.

He won't come.

I was told that a retainer had been paid to Mourinho. I'm guessing it works along the lines of, we pay you £x now and you agree to not sign with anyone else until a certain date. If, on or before that date, we haven't offered you a contract (probably at a pre-agreed salary), we'll pay you £y.
Depending on what x and y are that should be pretty reassuring. However, it also does imply that we aren't sure yet, otherwise we'd get him signed up now, just don't announce it.

How the board can't be sure LVG needs to go, I don't know. It beggars belief.

Im not deluded. I just dont see Jose being the antidote people think he will be. My issue is the way we are getting on as a fan base rather than being patient, as shitty as the football has been, the team is getting rebuilt. Jose nor Pep guarantee success in my opinion. That and this seasons meltdown at Chelsea should not be ignored.
Agree. Our fans' behaviour is getting to desperate and blinkered.

What are these so-called initial expectations though? Are they your expectations or the board's expectations?

He went for a club which is better than us right now and by some distance. 99% of the players who don't have any affinity towards either club (eg: fan of the club) would choose Bayern over us now.

What you said would have been a little probable had he gone to west ham. Or if Bayern got him for less than his clause.

Really? The Premier League is more watched and more competitive than the Bundaslgia. Moreover, we can match wage demands and turn our fortunes massively under a new manager (Bayern are also starting over with Carlo).

All Bayern have above us is a better squad, as it stands. But that can be changed with a single transfer window tbh.

Exactly, so if we were looking at him, it had absolutely nothing to do with Mourinho. The sort of deal, like Shaw and Herrera and Martial, that would have gone ahead whoever happened to be managing at the time.

For all anyone knows Mourinho might not rate the kid, as an 18 year old central midfielder who's barely played 20 games in Portugal, coming in to play for United in the Prem under his tenure. Hell if it were me I'd want that 80m euros spent a little more wisely.

Being a Mendes client does not mean that Jose wants to manage you. Same goes for being Portuguese.

Bayern are more stable, they are going to win the League, they could possibly be the favourites for CL. Whereas we aren't any of them. Viewed league doesn't mean anything. It's not like people get paid if more people watch them

Portugese clubs release official details of scouts present at every game, It was not "said". We have watched him 23 times Officially.

Van Gaal's own and logically our own if we believe in progress. We finished 4th last season. I and Van Gaal both expected progress in the league as a first priority.

Coming 4th (which still might not happen) is not progress - he failed. Winning the FA Cup is progress of sorts but still not really what we had in mind, nor that much of an indication of improvement.

I also expected our performances and general play (I didn't expect Barcelona but something better than Stoke) to improve after giving him a 'by ball' on the first season - he failed.

If you want to reward failure that's fine. I don't overly dislike Van Gaal - he's a legendary manager in his own way but he's failed and any proper football club board would turn to someone else when they failed to meet expectation (after being given plenty of money) after two seasons.
