United have been in 4 semi finals and 3 finals in the last decade.

And all that success came because SAF was running the show.
After he left, Ed took more control and the 2 managers we have had have both failed to live up to expectations.
You cannot give Woodward, LVG or Moyes any credit for the semi finals and finals, in the CL, in the last decade.
We became a laughing stock once we hired Moyes. It was such a bad decision that most of the footballing fraternity knew he'd fail. Some have even said that Moyes was the "patsy"...the guy who was employed to (inevitably) fail immediately after SAF left, so that the manager after Moyes would have less pressure on him.

The last decade started in 2010.

Sorry, i always consider the last decade to be the last ten years. Selecting arbitrary years to define eras makes no sense in football because these things are cyclical and football clubs don't make plans to be good on years ending in 0.

Before 2011 Madrid didn't make a semi final for 8 years. Bayern also went 8 seasons between 2001 and 2010 without making a semi. These things happen and clubs have to rebuild after periods of serious success.

Oh I agree 100%. I just don't think we should be looking to Real Madrid for a shining example of how to rebuild the club.

yeah but even so to have been in 4 semi finals and 3 finals in the last 10 years doesnt quite fit the picture you are trying to paint.

I'm not trying to paint anything, what I'm stating is that our current position would never be accepted at a club like Real Madrid. We're one of the biggest and richest clubs in the World, it's about time we acted like it.

It's even worse than "see you in Manchester". They were dark days.

That feckin ball:lol:. Never seen so many close ups and photo shops, all the while DDG was prob trying to get to Madrid nevermind recruit players for us.

There's no point speculating anymore, the season is almost over, if he isn't here in 3 weeks time then battlefield earth 3 is happening.

Just trawled through some twitter comments from our fans - so funny! People having meltdowns (like mine earlier:D), and other fans telling them to read the fecking article and stop getting wound up by the Headline:lol:

One of them claims he's ITK it seems - and that Mourinho will be announced on May 24th. Goodness knows where he came up with that!

Will repeat what i have been there Ning for months. Mourinho to United if far from a done deal.

I suppose so. It was an entertaining read for sure. Also said that 'senior sources' at the club said that they made the decision to get rid of VG in December, they decided there was 'no way back' for him. Meh, sounds like he's trying to stay positive:D

I really don't want him. Don't believe in short-term. I want us to start all over again like when Busby was in charge and later SAF. Mourinho will maybe bring instant success and ofcourse I want the team to win but I don't think he'll be here more than 3-4 years at the max and then we will have to start all over again. He will surely bring in established stars ( old or oldish) to be a success short-term but he won't look at what is best for MUFC, just what is best for him. Manchester United to me is building long-term built on an excellent youth acadamy, british core and a few superstar signings (and by that I mean "all-in signings" like Greizmann, Verratti, Messi). I believe in getting a young manager who wants to play pacey attacking football and who thinks the above mentioned "recipy" is the way to do it. Give him time and success will follow. I don't know who this manager might be but it certainly is not Mourinho (or LVG).

People throw around the word "circus" a lot these days but that whole fiasco is the best way to describe it ...

I'm surprised it's taken this long for them to fit Mourinho and the Chinese league into a story. None of them have a clue what's going on, they've covered nearly every eventuality in the last few weeks and whatever the outcome they'll claim they got it right. We'll know in a few weeks what's happening, if Van Gaal is still here next month I doubt he's leaving.

There were a whole bunch of legitimate rumours about him signing the pre contract with us a couple of months ago. No smoke without fire and all that.

Since then its all gone quiet. The in the know journos arent speculating because they know whats coming, have already reported it, have nothing new to add and dont want to look like idiots filling their columns with stuff they know will turn out to be false.

The rumours are coming from the junk sources who are thrashing around for anything they can grab.

It could be the Mourinho camp trying to put pressure on Utd to make a decision - spin a little story like this and get the fans outraged so they'll put more pressure on the club to appoint him now.

Less than 3 weeks to wait now until all becomes clear in any case.

I'm waiting until something is announced by the club. Not getting drawn into the media's trollfest. For your own peace of mind, I suggest you all do the same.

Good advice.

I just know how poor United's decision making has been the last 3 years and as such almost any scenario the media paints sounds plausible by our current standards... :( .

I get where you're coming from, but with the amount of he-said she-said that's been going on over the past few months, I've just decided to ignore it. We'll know when we know.

What the hell is this shit?
To be fair it's not beyond the realms of possibility. United have Mourinho over a barrel as he wants the job, and they seem keen to keep redeveloping the youth system. Maybe they feel Lvg is a better person for that job than Mou.

That said, it could easily be a pile of steaming bullshit.

It's Ed Woodward. It's us post Fergie. It's hard to believe it's NOT true.

I have more faith in my ability to woo Susanna Reid than I do in Ed Woodward, and by Christ that is the lowest of the low. Believe me!

I'm convinced we'd feck up getting Messi on a free, as he's about to sign the contract

The club has looked weak and indecisive ever since the turn of the year, when by all standards Van Gaal should have been history.

When they finally do make a decision it's going to be "At last, thank Christ!!" That is, of course, if they ever do announce anything. If Van Gaal is staying there will probably be no announcement and it'll just be business as usual while the likes of us sit in front of our monitors constantly clicking on this thread to no avail!

I'm ashamed to say I almost believe this latest story, it ties in perfectly with our decision makers' perceived weakness and indecision.

Whilst this is hard to believe if there is any truth to it then we deserve all that we get next season because other clubs wont be as shambolic as they were this season. It also proves if true that the Glazers are not interested in the football side of things only in the money and as long companies want their name associated with United and the money is okay that everything else does not matter.

Even if this is true, I'd imagine this is just old news that we were not aware of. Maybe in our initial negotiations, we asked him to wait a year. He said no, and as things got worse for us we're now agreed he will join this summer.

Article says we asked him within the last fortnight.

What exactly as Woodward fecked up so much?

  • He sacked Moyes in the first nine months(after being forced upon him by the departing manager).
  • Hired one of the world's most respected and experienced coaches in LvG.
  • Has literally signed every player his manager has asked for(some of them were overpaid, granted but we've overpaid for players even before he came).
  • Signed the Adidas and Chevrolet deals, both of them which are record breakers.
  • Now currently overseeing the complete revamp of Club's academy and scouting system and bringing some much needed changes in them.
Not sacking LvG earlier was a mistake, but this current idea on the Caf that Woodward is completely useless is extremely laughable considering the changes we've gone through in the last three years. I'm convinced that most of the people strictly go by twitter rumors and memes whilst ignoring the facts.

Even this recent article of the Sun claims that Mourinho is still confident of being the next United manager which is hilariously ignored by the majority who are instead focusing on the headline.
