BBC: United hold talks with Mourinho

Would you be happy to see Jose Mourinho become next United manager?

You could argue, I suppose, that if a deal - a proper deal - was struck that long ago, it's a bit odd that it hasn't become an open secret comparable to the Pep deal: Because that was different. There seems to be many people who you'd think would know about this who evidently don't. Which is a bit odd - not least since Maureen seemingly did a poor job at keeping it under wraps to begin with.
With Pep, City were happy for it to become an open secret to show off: "Hey, look at us, we've signed one of the best managers in recent history"
And in the end it had to be confirmed so Bayern could secure the new manager.

Like you said in the paragraph above, the Moratti leak is the main thing. Outburst of emotion from someone who was genuinely happy for Mourinho. Apart from that and the comments from both Mourinho and van Gaal which basically allude to a deal taking place, a lid has been kept on things which for me is the right thing to do.

I really can't believe that this thread has so many pages. I'd love to think this was happening, so, even though I'm pretty sure it's not, I get excited every time I see it at the top of the page :/

My worry, and what I am sure will happen, is that this thread will go on for most of the summer until it becomes painfully clear that nothing at all is happening. It's the hope that kills you....

All the fans I know, match goers and not, all want him gone. If anything the poll on here is soft because of all the oppo fans voting.

This. None of my friends are at the Caf and they all want him out.

This topic will be decided by the end of the month.
The interesting thing for me was, Moyes got sacked the day CL became impossible.
I think LVG stays until the end of the season as he has the FA Cup

Yup, can't see him going/any announcements made earlier than the FA final.

The (apparent) lack of season ticket sales shows which way the wind is blowing. If LVG stays, the empty seats will become an increasingly common sight next season. Sponsors will also start to get tetchy too; no sports advertiser wants to associate their product with a half-empty stadium. Woodward and the Glazers must realise this.

Wrong. 80% of the Caf want him out. You speak to match going fans and the number is not so high. Don't let this place be a good gauge for what United fans want or think.

Yeah right, I do not know one United fan that wants him to stay....not one.

This thread will become the stuff of legend on the Caf next season. Although I fear a number of the contributors to it will have eaten a bullet or something.

Don´t want to come across as an ITK, but a friend of mine, a Spanish journo contact of mine, Oier Fano Dadebat (@oierfano), just messaged me on twitter and he says Mourinho is NOT coming.

Oier says he got the info of a contact of his, who´s a member of the footballing fraternity in Spain. He's done interviews with lots of footballers over there.

Apparently it's actually Mourinho who doesn't want to come, as he realises he's got a huge job on his hands and doesn´t want another struggle after Chelsea. The fact that Guardiola is going to City, with much better players, would make the task harder for him. But Oier says the exact reason isn't for sure.

Anyway, bad news if true I guess.

I think thats crap, Jose is coming and he relishes being the one to bring United back to the top.

If that was true Mourinho would have ruled himself out a long time ago.

Then where Mou is going? He made statement he returns to management in July. And pretty much hinted that he stays in England. Everton?

If true then we are screwed

Don't think Mourinho would shy away from United irrespective of what state we're in.

Be good if United put a stop to all the speculation. The "will he, won't he come", is depressing as hell.

I don't see why 'huge job on his hands' will scare Mourinho. First, he is not that type. Second, the only likely destinations for him otherwise are PSG nad Real Madrid. PSG, with almost nothing to play for would have declared him as manager by now if Mourinho was not waiting on United as PSG have almost nothing to play for (guess they are in a cup final which is still to happen). Also it will be joke if Mou goes to manage PSG in that shitty league after his 'even a kitman can win' comment about Pep and Bayern. Zidane's stock at RM seems to be rising and I think he will continue into next season irrespective of what happens in CL. So, if United are only possible big team for Mourinho, he will take it even with 'huge job on his hands' rather than being jobless. Fwiw, I don't think United job is so huge that it will scare v.good managers. It is in fact, of a kind which should excite with some good young talent available and not much restrictions on transfer spending.

Sounds like damage limitation after our useless board didn't want him.

Mourinho ducking a big job at a massive club? Nah. Sounds shite. He'd fecking love the glory of steering us back to success, and if it goes tits up, he'll throw the whole club under the bus and saunter out the door in a blaze of fury, as he did 6 months ago. The United gig is win win for Mourinho.

Utter shite.

Guardiola coming in with better players. Have you watched City this season?

So where is Mourinho going to go?

Let's just wait and see. Can't see businessmen like Ed and Glazers going full arse crazy by not making a kick arse statement and getting him in. There's no one else available, and going with VG into the next season is suicidal. It doesn't make sense.

Folks don't shoot the messenger, I'm simply passing on what Oier told me. He gave me permission to pass it on and if you want to ask him then go ahead and do so on Twitter. His source sounds very well-informed.

To be honest I'm past caring if LVG stays one more year or not. The one thing that concerns me is if Giggs takes over, that would be a carcrash.

He wants to work in England again and Mendes and his cronies have been leaking stuff for months to get United moving. He's desperate for the United job.

I hope so too mate. Does seem like the trail's gone cold over the past few days though. I notice Di Marzio isn't saying anything now, for example.

I don't doubt you Johnny. I just hope your friend has been given the wrong information:D
Doesn't make sense as he knew from the moment he started hankering after the job that it would be a huge one. He can be a prick at times, but he isn't stupid.

No it hasn't. Even Wallace and Ducker were on it. Even though Ducker is clueless.

Also there's literally nothing to add to the story. It's been repeated about 100 times. What should Di Marzio say? Should he post Mourinho is coming every day.

With all due respect, if it were true (i.e. he feels he can put his name to this rumor) it will be all over his twitter as some sort of exclusive instead of him passing the news to you to pass it on.

Hardly gone cold, papers never shut up about it, Di Marzio (for what he knows anyway) has said his bit, he doesn't need to keep repeating it.
