I don't think there was any master plan. We react to situations as opposed to plan for eventualities.
A good example is Bayern - the moment they saw Guardiola was oohing and aahing over a contract renewal, they replaced him well in advance. This is forward planning.

If he is teaching our players to finish in 6th place and aim for 1-0 scorelines, he needs to be fired as soon as possible. No club in the EPL, even Aston Villa should be aiming for 1-0 scorelines.
