We're going to see Mata playing out of his skin these next few months.
Nah he will just feck off back to Spain, if Mourinho gets appointed. I wonder how much of our £37m we will get back, my guess is less than half.

The club are pushed into a corner with City signing Pep. The club cannot afford any more experiments. Although I will not enjoy his antics and playing style with me being a traditionalist and an old romantic (4-4-2), I don't think United have a choice and there's no one out there with as good a CV and stature as Mourinho.

The succession planning was non-existant ahead of Fergie's exit. Surely it shouldn't be a surprise that a man of 70+ years thinks about retiring.

The moment Pep left Barca wheels should have been set in motion to accommodate his arrival. He was free and available during most of Fergie's last season.

It's what Bayern did after all, they planned ahead. Worked out okay.

And the excuse that Fergie didn't decide to step down until late into the season doesn't fly. Gill's job is knowing things like that. It was obvious that Fergie would step down if not at the time, then soon. An opportunity like Guardiola should always be sounded out, at that stage.

Pellegrini has known for a long while about Pep. He even did that strange interview talking up the idea of Pep taking over. It's the end of his contract so it's not like he is being kicked out.

As for Van Gaal, I have a theory that it's him that has asked to leave as he's realised he's not the man for the job and isn't going to hit the targets he has set. He's looking forward to retiring and enjoying Portugal with his wife.

I think Woodward persuaded him to stay until the end of the season (and probably receive mutual termination rather than resign) as there just isn't any reliable interim managers around.

It would also coincide with him throwing more caution to the wind tactically. He probably feels some of the pressure is off and he can roll the dice.
Quite possibly. Hoping its the right way to go, he is far from perfect fit for our club and it does feel like a reaction to City move but he has proven he can take on the best teams i.e.Peps Barca and come our on top.

Even if he's playing to attract a new buyer, I expect him to be very motivated.

Yup. That seems to be a strong consensus among most here. Don't even get started on his RM stint because in some alternate world Jose got the better of Pep.
To be fair, not many have got close to Pep in style and results. We need to move on for Pep and focus on what's available.

I also think that as well as the control he will be able to enjoy here, he's going to be on his best behaviour will the watchful eyes of Sir Bobby and Sir Alex baring down on him.

I don't see any harm in pointing out that Mourinho is indeed a massive cnut. Nor do I blame people for not wanting him in charge for that very reason. Posting a picture of Fergie accidentally booting Becks and Cantona deservedly kicking a racist is ridiculous.

I'm delighted with having a supreme cnut in charge because he's the best manager in the world and will win us things. Seemingly most people are in the same boat but I don't blame others for not wanting that to be the case.

There are rumours Sir Alex did speak to Pep to take over at United, but he had already decided on a year out, and then Bayern.

Yeah. I don't particularly like him. But he certainly has the drive, talent and arrogance to be successful here.

Quite frankly, now Pep is going to City, he feels like our only option, and a necessary appointment. I hate the idea, but I think we stand the best chance of winning something with him, and ultimately that is what matters.

Not a fan of Mou but he's probably the best available option right now. The clash with Guardiola is going to be immense.

It's hard to disagree with any of this.

It shows how over the top the criticism of Woody has been in recent weeks.

There's a chance that Mourinho wants to settle in England once and for all. He was thrilled to go back to Chelsea and he did remain there after all and despite Inter and Real rumoured of having knocked at his door. Also we are a club who love retaining the same manager. We managed to convince SAF to remain despite the latter planning to leave twice

Not just in the recent weeks either.

Wonder if the imbeciles will still hammer Woody in case Mourinho fails to deliver here

Think he had another year but would say the agreement to step down is fairly lucrative for him.

Is it true that Mourinho turned down United for Chelsea? Or was that just him enamoring himself to the Chelsea fans?

They extended it for a year but with a clause that either Pellegrini or City can choose to terminate that year as they wish.

I assume they didn't want to start the season with the players thinking and the media speculating that he'll be off soon.

The announcement has only been made now because of how Pep handled the situation.

The criticism of Woody was bizarre. I mean, hating on LVG, yeah fair enough but Woody? wtf did he ever do? If anything he's been doing what everyone wanted Gill to do for fecking ages. He even seemingly managed to get his hands on the fabled warchest that Gill went on and on about for years.

God knows, I am not his agent. However I much doubt it. From United links Charlton never wanted Maureen and back to his time to Italy Maureen was already sending hints that he would be interested in replacing SAF

It's possible Mourinh would have hated to replace one of the greatest managers in the history of football with United already at the top. He'd much prefer to be the savior he's being regarded as now.

I have a feeling that if Jose does become our manager, he will be much better behaved than what has been going on in the last few years. However, as long as it isn't extreme cuntishness, it won't bother me much eitherway.

I'm also concerned about the number of how many current Chelsea players have spoken of the relief in the dressing room since José left departed from the club. The guys just has to many baggages for me.
It also seems like the José appointment is really for nothing other than the excitement it brings and making a statement regarding city's appointment of Pep, we should be signing a manager solely for the good of the club now and in the long term.

Wow...It's taken us 3 years to realise our original mistake.I said this at the time (like many others) but this was the appointment we should have made after Fergie which is why it's so frustrating to have seen us waste so much time messing about.

I'd prefer him to come in now but actually I think Jose could do with the break.

People who thinks that a dof suddenly make us a barca in 5 years time is funny, it's like hiring moyes and expecting him to do a fergie.

It's not a dof that makes a barca, it's a god damn excellent and competent dof. Put gary neville as our dof and you think we're safe and sound and in 5 years we become barcelona? That's pipe dreaming

Yes, absolutely nothing to do with the fact that he's been successful at pretty much every job he has been at so far.

Really he's the best option available, I just hope if he comes he'd give youth a chance.
Some of our best players are young and it was mentioned not long ago that he'd agree to a few United terms and bringing youth players through I imagine would be one of them, it'd be a shame not too, we have our best crop of youngsters in about 15 years currently.

The press are saying we've had talks. Although a start nothing is definite. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Start creating some song about that animal he brings with him,go full sellout at least.

I wonder what the nature of the leak is?

An old Chelsea colleague gets wind of it and ramps up the pressure on Van Gaal before Sunday? As Chelsea relieved Mourinho of his duties, they currently have to pay him in full until he finds a new club. Perhaps part of those terms is that he must keep Chelsea up to date on that search.

A leak from United's end? Gauging fan opinion on hiring him like we clearly did with Giggs.

Or Mourinho ramping up the pressure?

If we do end up getting Jose now it makes a bit of a mockery of the last 3 seasons. I still believe he would have followed Ferguson if we weren't concerned about doing things 'the United way'.

He would have found it easier taking over a title winning side and probably would have won at least one title in what has been quite an average spell for the PL. It will be tougher for him now with Pep in place at City.

It would also have meant that he spent the war chest on building a squad to his liking over the last 3 years. Although Martial is a blessing we might not have had with Jose in charge, you have to wonder how some of our other big money signings like Mata, Herrera and Fellaini would fare if Mourinho took over.

feck yes! If he joins, we finally have a real chance of reaching the top again!

I thought his family have remained in London since his Chelsea days?

China.

World record fee

I would rather see Mata go to Barca on a free than go to China for £75m. I hope that he stays.

That relief isn't exactly transferring to the pitch. Half the team look like they don't want to be there. Especially their star man Hazard. He definitely wants out.
