Why not though? We are fecking shite for all the money and the name we have. Mourinho is jobless at the moment and very likely can choose from some top jobs (he already refused Inter and Roma; there are rumors that Madrid are interested). That clause would just ensure that United won't feck him (again, if some other rumors are to be believed).

If we agreed in that clause, it means that we want him. But of course, Mourinho wants to be ensured just in case that SAF sees a dream that Giggs will stay here as a successful manager for 25 years and sells that to the board, and them in infinite wisdom give Giggs a 6 year contract. Or worse, Ed decides to continue with LVG.
That's the confused aspect of it. That "just in case" -the implication that a faction of anti-Mourinho romantic dreamers just might want to push for a third serious gamble -or more of this same- and we hand over 15 million to the best/second best manager in the world as he disappears in the rear view mirror- sums up about where we are. I'd have kept the details of this pre-contract confidential.

Miguel Delaney on the radio saying you won't find a more impeccable journalist than Torres and that he's really well sourced.

Delaney also says that his info is that Mourinho is already drawing up his transfer target list. Mentioned Kane, two defenders, commanding CM and fast RW as the priorities.

To be fair it's a cracking clause if not drafted correctly. Fast forward to June 2019 where United have just gone bankrupt after paying Mourinho £7.9bn for not taking charge. At this point the club is owned by Mourinho, the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand has been named "The Sir Alex Ferguson Is A Rat Stand" and Mourinho is involevd in a massive standoff where he would install himself as manager if only he could afford to pay off Ryan Giggs' 39 year managerial contract.

I see a future for all of us!

That sort of transfer strategy is far too obvious for it to be legit. It covers our concerns and needs... it doesn't make sense!

Bollocks, we're Manchester United, we are above actually dealing with the flaws in our squad :wenger:

But how could Manchester United get themselves into this confused beggary situation, where they might end up paying 15 million pounds for an asset they never acquire? It's madness, demonstrating a complete lack of pride and basic nous.

Mendes must be rubbing his hands in anticipation of having years to deal with Woody. Expect another 10 Bebe style players, for £10m plus.

Did anyone ask LvG about the latest news?
No dont think so.
What if united finish 4th, You think mourinho will still be our manager? Considering you have put your neck on the line here, does that thought frighten you?

It really is an interesting scenario if we get 4th. I don't think we will and so it will be moot but what if we did? Today's result has really made it interesting because if we hadn't won, it would just be a wait to see when Jose was appointed.

That being said, my own view is that Jose should still come in. I like LVG and want him to go out with head held high despite not doing a good enough job overall.

To scrape 4th and for it to keep LvG in the job would be a total joke when you look at the overall performance this season.

He's a goner, even if we by some laughable miracle end up in the top 4, it's because of how bad everyone else is.

He's my preference, too. But we might have to pay him 5 million if we don't sign him before a certain date. How do you feel if the new manager has already taken 5 or 10 million pounds out of the club and pocketed it? Somewhat sours it for me.

What do you mean?

As per my understanding, the clause is:

(1) We pay him 5m if we string him along till Apr 30th and then tell him we do not want him.
(2) We pay him 15m if we string him along till May 31st and then tell him we do not want him.

We won't have to pay him anything as per this pre-contract if we do give him the job, whichever may be the date.

You're just nitpicking reasons to dislike Mou. If you don't like him just came out and say it. Nothing wrong with your opinion.

Unless im mistaken, we can sign him and keep it under wraps til the season ends, no?

I mean if we have signed this pre-contract in secret then theres nothing wrong with signing a contract in secret either.

If it is true that there are penalty clauses if we don't sign Mourinho, I hope we too have asked him about his plans for our youngsters and kept our conditions on table. As much I love Mou, I won't like careers of likes of Rashford hampered as cost of signing Mourinho.

Nope. Glad they didn't. Can't stand the drama. Not sure if they won't ask in the major press conference though. We've only seen the television interview.
He was pretty subdued in his interview though - unlike other times when we've won against a big team...

If he can't convince us that he'd look after them and bring them through then we should tell him to feck off.

I'm not so sure we're in such a strong bargaining position. We need him more than he needs us and he knows it.

Yeah there's nothing to stop that but the point about the pre-contract is that we can still get out of it if we wish. So if suddenly the board think LVG has turned a corner, they can bin the Jose deal for a 'mere' £15m.

However, most contracts have some sort of break clause, for me the pre-contract clearly demonstrates that Jose is coming. If anything, putting such a hefty clause in shows that.

Right now, I'd say both sides really need each other.

I would agree with that, not a lot of options right now for Mourinho.

I personally think he's always been after the United job as well, i think he would have taken it in 2013 if offered it.

I suspect it's 3rd in his contract. Less than 3rd and they can sack him without compensation. He mentioned 3rd in the press conference the other day, it is logical that the club would expect progress over the duration of his contract. So, it will only be interesting if we overtake the Arse.

He will be our manager even if he get the 4th place. Our board are not happy about our season overall. I think its cool I broke that he signed before this Torres guy btw :D

I hope that you will remain a cock after the season is done :D

So it's a done deal even if the Dutch dick manages (somehow) to finish top 4?

Yes but that is only supposing that they exercise the contractual option. What I mean is if they somehow think 4th plus cup is enough. You would think that the Mourinho clause would prevent that, but you would think a lot of things that haven't happened.

It is. So we should hope LvG and/or the players does the job. Anyway, Mourinho will manage us.
I hope you're info is more concrete than the 'pre-contract' claims:D Don't like hearing we have the option of pulling out. I like LVG personally, but he's been too inconsistent, so I hope the board take that into consideration..

It wouldn't be a spanish pre-contract rumour without the old monetary stipulations involved. They literally say that in every pre-contract rumour i've ever seen originating from spain ever.

These stipulations where by if X isn't signed by Y date then club Z has to pay them compensation are never reported by any other journalists in any other country that i know of outside of spain.

Sounds like bullshit as usual even if we are likely to appoint Mourinho.

The season will still be running in May?

So this article is saying we'll have him signed before the end of the season otherwise we pay £5m to him.
