Might have already been covered, but where are the BBC getting this from?

They don't usually post things until someone official-ish somewhere has said it outright, but the article mentions nothing about where the story comes from.

Hope its done sooner rather than later, dont see the point of waiting till the summer at all.
Multiple independent sources I imagine, they don't publish stuff without good reason.

I honestly didnt expect him to sign for us but the beeb article has surprised me as they are usually on the ball with their info.

There is a note of caution there though.
They aren't the usual tabloid desperate to sell the story. That warning is so their reputation isn't harmed if he doesn't join Man Utd, I'm sure.

He probably regrets that he sold Lukaku, but for De Bruyne, they were stacked in attacking midfield, and he came back from loan and wasn't going to get regular games. Made sense to let him go at the time, and they got a decent fee. Nobody said it was that stupid at the time really.

No he didn't, the only teams who have less shots and shots on target then we do this season are West Brom, Newcastle, Villa, Sunderland, Norwich and Stoke.

Yeah the poking eyes thing was way out of hand obviously. As was Fergie kicking a boot at Beckhams face but just like Fergie regretted doing that, I'm sure Mou regrets the occasional lash out that happens in such a high stakes situation.
You cant pair those two incidents,Fergie did it on house, not on tv.

Despite my previous posts here, I'm not opposed to Mourinho coming to United. I do think his shortcomings and mediocre record in recent years have been overly painted over by people in this thread and on this board in general, in ways that aren't applied to his peers. And the whole 3 years theory isn't so much a theory anymore as it is closer to being a law.

But he is a very good manager. Give him funds and he will deliver trophies eventually at all costs. Half the lot on here have been left shellshocked and traumatized by the lack of silver in the past three years, so a change for the better will do them good. Hopefully we can mitigate his shortcomings if he does come here and he can help us in the short term while structural changes are implemented that leave us poised to challenge at the top for many years.

All you drama queens about how he 'doesn't have the Man United dignified personality' etc, pls see exhibit A (from previous post in other thread):

Don't forget the kicking that Jose Reyes got when we played Arsenal, or the tackles that Alan Smith gave when we stopped their unbeaten season. Nobody complains about that

feck yeah! Hope we get this done. Better late than never. This is the guy we should have got when Fergie retired. Let the good times begin....

Great news if true. This is something we should have done after Fergie retired - appointing a world class manager.

What's the appeal? I genuinely don't understand why anyone would want to be a supporter of the most hated club.
I love the whole siege mentality. We're Man United and it's us against the world. I took joy in watching rival fans get petty with jealousy, now they talk openly and honestly about our situation and it gets patronising.

I want us to be back on the map. The Arsenal rivalry with the Keane vs Viera battles are my fondest football memories.

Exactly

Maureen is an arsehole and his football is as boring as LVG. A step sideways and another step closer to becoming a joke club.

Not at the top of my list of managers I want, but he is top of the list of managers we need

That is the way to beat Arsenal, no need to go toe 2 toe with them, a few crunching tackles and they are easy pickings

If I'm honest, I wouldn't be over the moon, no. Having said that, he's probably the most realistic at the moment. I mean, Klopps gone to Liverpool, Pep to City, Ancelotti to Bayern and all the other managers that I would have liked to see before Mourinho seem to be settled at their clubs.

The state of this thread.

I'd be delighted if Jose were to become our next manager. His brand of winning football might not be the best to watch but it almost guarantees success.

Mourinho was the guy who I wanted to take over from Fergie.
The last time he came to OT, his Madrid beat Fergie's MUFC in the CL, after a great match (until Nani got sent off).
I thought that was effectively, the job interview, for when Fergie retired and Jose would take over.
Instead we got Moyes, which at first, II thought was a joke. This was apt because this joker got us (the reigning league champs) to 7th place.

Then we went for LVG, who had a good CV. He started off well in the first season, but since our purple patch last season, he seems to have gone ultra defensive, for reasons I cannot fathom. People complain about Mourinho negative football against big teams. LVG plays negative (1-0, 0-0) football, even against small teams.

So, I really am pinning my hopes big time on Mourinho winning us trophies quickly and bringing the fear factor back to OT. If Mourinho can't win us trophies, I really would have no idea who could replace him. We'd probably have to go for an up and coming manager (who at this time, nobody is even thinking of) and hope he becomes great.

Jose and Pep doing battle next season on the touch line - can't wait.

Would have preferred Pep, probably Carlo and maybe Klopp.

That said, I would be delighted if he's our next manager.

He is bad news. People wanting him at United have clearly never spent any time watching any of his previous sides.

By previous sides you mean the Chelsea side that I believe still holds the record for amount of points? The same that won back to back titles. His Inter team that won a treble (beating Barcelona and Bayern to win old big ears).. His Madrid team that again I believe has the record for points or is it wins? And let's not forget his Chelsea side that first half of last season played some great football, the 5-0 win at Swansea being the highlight.

God help us if he turns us in to record breaking, giant team beating champions.

Not excited at all. Would have preferred Pochettino or Simeone. But i'm in the anyone but Giggs brigade so I can't complain too much.

That is absolute shite. His Chelsea side when he first arrived there was magnificent to watch.

Very briefly, as he routed out the creativity instilled by the manager currently leading the league. ChelSki put me to sleep many times after he stamped his style on them.

I will die a little inside if this happens. Shit on a stick football with relative success in the first season, followed by steady decline as everybody but him gets the blame. Then he falls out with everybody and we're back in th shit again.

That Inter side were awful, defend, smash and grab. Possibly the worst champions league final ever. The Italian league was very average at the time, so that treble is up there with the dippers plastic treble a few years back. He did begin well at Chel$ki, but he has steadily gone downhill. His football has not evolved and other managers know how to deal with him now. Appointing him will be a massive mistake.

As has been pointed out many times on the forum. This concept that he leaves clubs in the shit is a bit of a myth. He may fall out with people, but leave them in the shit? Don't agree at all.

Yep.

And yes.
I like it when managers stir the pot before the game. This is entertainment and I want to see some passion on the pitch from the players. Mourinho is actually pretty good at getting his players up for a fight...err I mean, game.
LVG and our bunch of "nice guys" could never create the same sort of atmosphere in a football match because the passion just isn't there.

Very interesting, especially as it's from the Beeb. Not going to be an easy few weeks in the pressers for LVG...
