Bastian Schweinsteiger

We need a midfielder who'll come in and do the job similar to Van Persie, Schweinsteiger is the perfect option he'd thrive in the premier league look at Yaya his still going strong and is showing no signs of slowing down just yet and his 31.

Why do I let myself get drawn into these rumors  now I want Schweinsteiger

Schweinsteiger will be a great start as long as we get a few more. If he can remain fit, he can influence our season. Better allround game than any of the present Bayern midfielders, just that each of their midfielders are currently better at their expertise than Bastian. If we can get Muller too, we will be more German than any German club.

Bastian just doesn't suit Pep's philosophy his German not Spanish, the difference between him last season and 12/13 season when fit is a huge difference.

I'd love if we managed to get Schweinsteiger. Not just because he's someone who I've always wanted to see play for us, but also because it would be hilarious to see how many fan's shirts would have his name misspelled on the back.

He should beg Bayern to let him come to us then.
I just can't see it happening. If Bastian were to retire tomorrow he'd go down as a Bayern legend, the fans love him and his been at the club since 98.

We can sell Fellaini and give him no.31

If he has doubts over his role as a starter, it would seem logical to look elsewhere. He isn't at the twilight of his career to think of retiring at Bayern. I can see it not happening too, but if ever there was a chance, it is now.

Now would be the perfect time but we aren't in the best position to go in for a player of his stature, our only hope is Van Gaal convincing him to join, even then what are the chances of Bayern selling him the fans will be furious.

He's never struck me as someone who would stay. I think there is a fairly high chance of this happening - particularly given guardiola is the manager. He's not his biggest fan, or perhaps more accurate to say, he believes there is better available.

I don't see how van Gaal's philosophy is any different than Pep's? We played the same possession based football in midfield in 09/10 when Schweinsteiger had his breakthrough season as a CM under van Gaal.

Balu, would you say it is true that Schweinsteiger might be dispensable to Guardiola and available for transfer?

I can't see it myself, but it depends on Lahm's position next season and if Kroos signs a new contract or not and what plans Guardiola has longterm for the team. Impossible to say at the moment.

I always think that you have to see it out of different perspectives. He might be able to be replaced on the pitch - but can he be off the pitch?

And if he leaves would he leave to United? Mourinho was on him very often since World Cup 2010. Van Gaal would for sure be a pull, too - and maybe that it is a "new project" - but he is somebody that could be drawn by living in London...

Schweinsteiger has won it all at Bayern. A challenge for him would be win it all at United too. That would establish him as an all time great who has won all there is to win with 2 of the biggest clubs in the world. If he respects van Gaal and he isn't an automatic first team starter with Guardiola's Bayern, then it is possible we can lure him. Can offer him more money too I should imagine, although the main incentive is the challenge of being a legend for 2 massive clubs, not just one.

The same Chelsea who want Fabregas? Not everyone can go to Chelsea - I suspect he would consider United even just on the basis that Van Gaal is the coach. He could come to United under a coach he knows and be a key player. You cant say that for every club he could join.

Der_Bastian would be an immense signing even though he's 29. I'm abit concerned about his fitness levels, as I've read stories about him being hit with injuries more often than not. No clue of there's any truth though - just wanna avoid another Hargreaves-incident.

However, if he can stay relatively fit for 2-4 years, we'll have an excellent player on our hands, and he'll really give some of our emerging youngsters something to learn.

If he went to a different country far away from Münich he would still go down as a Bayern legend. Nistelrooy is a good example. He left for Madrid and we still see him as a legend, when he played at OT on one of the testimonials he scored and he still got the "RUUUUUUD" cheer from the fans. It's not like he went to Liverpool.

I can't believe people are actually debating whether he'd be a good signing! We are desperate for central midfielders and Bastian is one of the very best in the world.

People see 29 as massively old now for some reason.

He'd be 30 before he ever played a minute for us, and that's not exactly an ideal thing is it. He would be a good buy if we weren't getting anyone, or if we were getting a 2nd midfielder like Vidal, Carvalho, or Strootman.

If we had a deal tied up for Strootman to join in January, I think it would be a fantastic signing.

i watched schweensteiger versus arsenal and ourselves and madrid. In all five matches (not counting the last one), it was kroos and lahm in did the business in the center. I didnt even notice bastian bar getting scoring the goal against us and then getting sent off for rooney diving. Kroos was the one passing. Lahm was holding onto possession. Im not convinced. Hes got more energy than kroos and thats it.

for a 29 year old, you should be talking no more than 22 million. Lets be real. And the english PL is far tougher than the mickey mouse german league.

i agree. hed be a good backup. if hes the star buy for the summer, god bless us.

If this was serious and we ACTUALLY SIGNED him, i think I would do myself a mischief very fast. I love the lad so much, he's the closest thing to Roy Keane there's been for a long time and he's fecking brilliant. And his missus too

Schweini and Strootman would be a fantastic partnership, especially if we can get each of them for below 30m

This would be the dream signing of many Manchester United supporters. I remember everyone calling him the perfect midfielder for us a few years back, but that he would never leave Bayern. Why is it different now?

Don't do this to us. :(

Basti is one of the best midfielders around. Bayern is in his blood. And the fans would get crazy if he would leave(he is called Fussballgott(football god) for a reason.
BUT there are reports that the board is troubled with his injuries and is looking to buy the next Schweinsteiger.
He is my god but if he wants a new adventure and we go for a Pogba...you never know.

I remember watching him play for Germany against Wales while I was away on holiday in 2007. He was completely unstoppable and from that moment I decided I had to see him in a United shirt. Please?

You won't ever let go of your Pogba dream, huh?

I'd love to have him but it won't happen, don't see us splashing so much cash for one player.

As for Schweinsteiger, it is all rumours for now. I really cannot see him leave. He is revered by the fans and just as with Muller, they would go crazy if he were to be sold.
