Barcelona: Charged with corruption .... again!

Real Madrid I think are universally the biggest pulling club.

Barcelona under Guardiola with Messi was the place to be but now they are a shadow of that.
For sure, Madrid are Madrid but for some reason a lot of players second choice is Barcelona. Just look at this summer and the players they managed to nap who had agreed deals elsewhere before they swooped in.

All in all good game from Barcelona, losing by only two goals should be seen as progress.

Edit: forget about it they just conceded another one.:lol::lol:

True but I think struggling financially will be tolerated while success on the pitch is assured. A bit like United you can only survive with at least one of them being in order.

I mean in the beginning of the season. They made the Champions league this season and didn't want to go back playing Europa, that fact that he played Europa last season doesn't mean he minds playing there every season. He and many others didn't think they will drop to the Europa this season.
They got tossed last season by Benfica and Eintracht, they absolutely had to consider this scenario. And the "they have ambitions much higher than Europa League" can be said about United just as easily, but it was completely ignored throughout the entire summer. So I'm not sure why it should apply now.

They had more possession though. Surely that's all they need to claim victory.

Kounde and Raphinha could have been playing CL football with Chelsea as well.

Raphinha yes but Chelsea were the ones who pulled out of the Kounde deal (though admittedly that was apparently down to Tuchel being unconvinced which obviously isn't as relevant now).

They justified their overspending during the summer based on deferred wage cuts and projected success in CL and League. If they win the league, that'll be good, but they will definitely be having a YoY loss again because they miss out on massive CL revenue from TV, merch, tickets. Europa might save their ticket projected revenue, but they have a huge shortfall now with TV.

Mes que un club

From Barcaforum in response to a poster saying the club is broken:
It's tough when you are both, broke and broken.

Awww :(

Looking forward to skipping past all the dissertations in this thread by Barca fans tonight.

Jaysus, they mortgaged their future for that, and some thought the previous president was bad
I questioned their spending in the Summer as nowhere close to deserving the incredible praise it received, and after Real & now this, I’m starting to feel vindicated.

It's a young team and all they need is a replacement for Busquets at this point. They're really not in as bad a position as you think. The fecking cnuts.

That's why we laugh so hard at them right now, chances are they'll be no joke next year
I’d argue a lot of young players are overhyped due to youth. Flaws are overlooked because we assume progression is linear. It’s like Gavi, great young player but we’re seeing a lack of creativity from him and that isn’t guaranteed to come.

Playing Europa whilst getting your owed money, in a city you and your girlfriend love > playing europa somewhere you didn’t want to move to.

Also, didn’t the manager just recently say Frenkie’s convinced him to be their pivot?

Very much doubt he feels stupid in any kind of way
But the team don't like him though? they tried everything to get rid of him all last season. He got the money he is owed?

Now imagine Lewandowski...
I know, got knocked to Europa by his former team too.

I am absolutely sure they didn't consider that scenario after what they spent and also that being their first ever Europa league appearance*. Barcelona always see themselves in the Champions league, it's not us that we are use to the Europa league, so I guess you wouldn't care.

Why does last season matter? I am talking about this season when the season started and they were in the Champions league and signing everyone. I am 100% positive Europa didn't cross their mind whether they should have considered it or not.

Second year in a row they go to the Europa. Come Jan, it may be we won't see Barca in the last 16 of the CL for 4 years+ if the ECJ rule as expected.

Not to worry, I’m sure they’ll just come out and ask the players to take another paycut for dropping to Europa. After all, everyone that plays for Barca is a cule and does it for love of the club right? That’s what they’re always banging on about…

Would they make the top 4 in England? Got their asses handed to them again tonight by a Bayern side that are a shadow of themselves so far this season.
Nope, there’s a lack of athleticism in this Barca side. They seems to have struggled against direct football in the CL because of it. Even Madrid exposed that a few weeks ago

NOPE, the referíng was a disaster. Exactly the same handball judged differently in the same game.
UEFA Hates us for spporting the superleague.
Madrid are more powerful in general but as long as we are in this together I would rather them win than any of those corrupts teams like PSG or Manchester City.
Sure, they got screwed in Milan and I'm definitely not going to point out Dembele escaping a textbook red card while 2-1 down at the spotify given how the first leg's result affected that game

:wenger:
It's not only "replacing Busquets", it's about changing their dogmatic view of football because it's not compatible with the highest level unless you get a genious manager and 3 of the very best midfielders in the world. It requires far more than just replacing a player, they need to eat their humble pie.
Eh. They're fine, they just need their good defenders to be available. I do question why Ansu Fati doesn't start every game though

Sure, but they're still young. It stands to reason that they'll get better

You're loving every second of this aren't ya

Zagallo, Deschamps, Heynckes… arguably Clough (not “great” great but a fantastic goalscorer who could have broken lots of records)

But APART FROM them, basically good players hardly ever become top coaches? :)
No wait, we were talking about former legends/darlings of a club who had winning debuts/early stints as coaches for the same clubs.
(btw, I forgot Carlos Bilardo, Ronald Koeman, Luis Enrique and Miguel Munoz in that list)

Very good players who became winning coaches somewhere else, there are some more - Rijkaard, Mancini, Tigana, Trapattoni, Bobby Robson, Liedholm....

The vast, vast even more vast number of youngsters that show ridiculous ability never actually kick on. The level for elite footballers to compete against the worlds best is ridiculously high.
Look at all the articles of x country’s starting 11 in 8 years etc. they’re never even close to being accurate for a reason.

I hate to say it, as he was and is one of my favourite players of all time but this is on Xavi imo and really shows great (even GOAT midfielder) players don't always make great managers.

His tactics and mismanagement have been exposed time and time again and we still see little sign of him learning from them. Alonso, an attacking LWB at CB, when Garcia is available? What? Busquets starting vs Bayern in 2022 is also a massive problem. Wingers isolated.. the guy has destroyed Raphinha and Lewa is feeding off scraps.

Sure the CB injury crisis screwed us, as did some of those referee decisions but I can't even be mad about that as I know we'd probably get pounded in the last 16. Every victory is papering over the glaring cracks. I agree with that one PSG poster here, the biggest problem is the outdated views and holier than thou attitude at the club. Football has and will continue to evolve and we have been left behind.

Xavi should go and a manager from outside Barca should be hired and given time and freedom away from the philosophy and club politics. Gone are the days we dictated the play and forced opponents to adapt, we don't have that GOAT team anymore and WE need to adapt. This team are way better than group stage CL exits. Some positions like RB and LB (although Balde is a gem) need to be fixed but a decent manager works around that.

You’ve failed to win almost half of your league games this season, so yeah, “shadow of yourselves so far this season” is pretty bang on the money.

We have been pretty great so far this season, despite a few results not reflecting what was happening on the pitch

Bayern vs Barca last 6 matches:
6 Bayern wins and 22-4 goals.
Don`t ever talk shit to us again.

They're only 3 points behind Real in La Liga, having won 9 games, drawing 1 and losing 1. Really poor CL campaign yet again but, though I'm not sure I watched even 1 of their games under Xavi, results wise they've improved since he came in. Had strong finish to last season as well if I remember correctly.
