Ballon d'Or 2021 | Lewandowski robbed again

Bundesliga is a farmers 1-team league compared to La Liga, no comparison, even Ligue 1 is more competitive than Bundesliga with 3 different winners in the last 5 years.. Salah, Benzema etc. would all break goal records at Bayern, nothing special.. Lewa would struggle at last year's Barca under Koeman. If you want to win Ballon D'or with Bayern, then you better win the CL or do serious damage in an international tournament, nothing else cuts it. It is the same for Messi this year at PSG, nobody cares about Ligue 1 just like Bundesliga..

PSG bottled last season, they lost the title to a team that didn't score much, it's not that Lille was very good unlike Monaco.

If Bayern moves to current La Liga,Serie A, and Ligue 1, they would make those leagues a one horse race easily, as they can trash current Barca,Madrid teams,PSG,Juventus, and the Milan teams.

No one cares about Serie A either btw, Cristiano scored tons of goals there and wasn't even close to win Ballon D'or.

Lille were very good, exactly like Monaco.

Why is it telling? I just can't think of another reason why people are so invested in this topic: Lewandowski played a historic Bundesliga season, but (due to injuries and being Polish) didn't accomplish anything on the international stage. Messi played a great season for Barca and dominated the Copa America. I think both wouldn't be undeserving of the award, so I'm surprised people with no connection to either Lewandowski or Bayern get so worked up over it.
I don't understand why everyone is acting so surprised. Messi has been favourite to win it since the copa and his 2021 la liga form.
Yep, people acting like it was some outrageous decision

Would anyone have been furious if Lewandowski won it? No, I don't think so. He'd be deserving as well.

At the end, international tournaments (and the UCL) weigh heavily in these awards. Everyone knows that. It's the reason Chelsea had so many players nominated and won best club side. Don't know why people are acting so OTT outraged.

And Lewandowski's form last year is irrelevant (they should never have cancelled the awards in the first place) and much of Messi's Ligue 1 form after voting closed, is also irrelevant. The bigger issue with this award is also it gives the impression of it's based on a "calendar" year, when in fact, anyone dominating individually from Jan to May, and winning the big trophies is (almost) a shoe in. Your form at the start of each season (to October when voting closes - i think?), when no big prizes are decided weigh very little. Or else Salah would be a favorite.

Messi, what a player. Greatest of all time. I for one am glad we have a consensus here.

Since there was no total stand out candidate the internationals were always going to be a factor. If Harry Kane had won the euro's with England he'd have a good chance. Same with Benzema and Mpabbe. However since Italy won it and Messi had a great Copa which they won, it swung things in his favour. However he only got a few more points than Lewa.

Mbappe.

the stats go up to the last day of voting. What happens after that happens so irrelevant to ballon d’or voting

Can't believe you had to point out something this basic. He probably can't think straight, given the way he's seething.

It doesn't sit right with me that Lewa got shafted.
In some ways I'm glad it happened. Just adds another asterisk to Messi's ballon count. VVD was much better in 2019 and trashed his barca team in the CL, completely shutting him down in the second leg. At least now the world knows what the award is really like.

It's quite obvious some of you argue without even watching the player you are arguing against

Awe look at those tears!

Not sure if serious. 51 goals and 22 assists in 50 matches from Messi. VVD was awesome yeah. Better player than Messi? No.

Lewandowskis G+A per 90 is literally 50% higher than Messi's, I've no idea what the hell you're talking about....

Stats from club competitions + internationals during calender year 2021 (from Transfermarkt)

Robert Lewandowski: 62 goals + 9 assists in 4346 minutes = 1.47 goal/assist per 90

Lionel Messi: 40 goals + 17 assists in 5180 minutes = 0.99 goal/assist per 90

You can't compare the two. Completely different leagues and Lew plays in the one which is completely dominated by Bayern. They've won 30 out of 58 Bundesliga titles, 9 out of the last 10. It's a bit of a given they will win and voters won't take any notice unless he wins the CL or an International competition on top of the Bundesliga.

Completely agree he should have won it in 2020, but not this season.

Does anyone even care about a poxy football award when the world is falling apart !
You could have posted this in most threads for that matter.

Oh so NOW goals matter

They matter. Should I dig up his completed dribbles, chances created stuff, motm awards as well? Point is that Messi is a incredible goalscorer but he's great at everything else at well. It's hard to compare a CB to a forward tbh. Had VVD not have to compete against Messi, maybe he would have deserved it.

I'm enjoying the bitterness, the moans, the laments and the crying more than the award, please do not stop

Can't wait to see the world's best player jog around the pitch next time PSG plays when everybody else will be sprinting for the counter attack or working their ass off defending. What a player.
Mbappe must be delighted that he finished only 8 places behind him.

Even with an Euro, Kane,Benzema or Mbappe wouldn't have won it over Messi.

Maybe it's because of the leaks that he's decided to walk all game. Zero fecks given now that he's sealed his 7th.

Based on the criteria that count here (including a huge emphasis on what your team happens to win within the calendar year), it's perfectly logical that Lewandowski didn't win it.

The criteria are shit, mind you - and the whole format of the Ballon (this ridiculous "calendar year that isn't actually a calendar year" bollocks) sucks. But - again - given the nature of the thing, how could they possibly give it to Lewandowski?

(If you decide to include last year too when assessing performances/results - then yes, obviously it should've been Lewa. But the award is for this calendar year - and that's that: the fact that last year was canceled is unfortunate but irrelevant).

The award is given for performances all through the year rather than just one match.

Based on this year's unanimous outrage I believe that Redcafe should create its own award which in many years will surpass the disgraced France Football Ballon D'Or. I propose to call that award the Mug d'Or.

PS: Lewandowski won the 2021 edition of the award.

So Messi has now 2 undeserved ballon dors. 2010 and 2021.

Ronaldo has one undeserved ballon d'or. 2013.

But 2018 should have been Ronaldo's who was easily the best player in the world that season, and definitely much better than Modric.

That would probably tie them at 5-5, but I would have been okay with a 6-5 as I consider Messi to be the better player anyway. But 7-5 is not a fair reflection I feel.

I think these pricks could have delivered 2 ballon d'Ors in the same night. Lewandowski deserves one for 2020. They did it with Maradona didn't they ? Received it later ?

Would heavily dispute that Messi didn't deserve it 2010. Snejder had a good year but he was not a better player than Messi over the whole year.

Exactly.

 FFS the Messi anger on Ronniecafe I mean redcafe is something else
You mean a current Utd player who is the reason we are still in UCL this season? I never said ronaldo deserved the ballon this year, but a little bit of fanboyism in a United forum is not unexpected.
