Aymeric Laporte | Txiki doesn't forgive (except for when he does)

City have Otamendi, Kompany, Mangala, Demichelis and Denayer. So maybe fullbacks and midfielderd are their priorities.

I think that Laporte could go to Barca or stay in Bilbao.

It would be nice if someone can make a poll of defenders to know who is the favorite here.

There are many options like Stones, Laporte, Marquinhos, Varane, Gimenes, Mustafi, Romagnoli, Koulabaly, Hummels, Garay, Dragovic, Godin, etc

Indeed he looked like a guy devastated because he knows he just picked up a very serious injury when taken off the pitch. :(
 
A chance to go to the Euros and a big transfer gone for him now. Sad for the guy.

I dont reckon there is/was any truth to the report City had triggered his release this morning. Bit ironic how player quite well reported wants to go Barcelona, who also want to sign him. Then Real Madrid's newspaper decide to say he is going to City?

He must be absolutely gutted. Not sure if he is a regular for France but still. I would avoid any challenge 4 months prior to a big tournament.

I also think the reports are rubbish. All Marca said was City were willing to trigger the clause. Barcelona have already admitted they can't afford him cause Bilbao will not negotiate.
I did believe he would end up either here or City but this injury has thrown any transfer out of the window.
 
I saw that he had gone off and was worried it was an injury, it didn't make sense to substitute him otherwise. Poor lad. Hope it isn't too bad. If he doesn't come here, hope he does get his move to Barcelona in the future.
 
Gutted this was the CB I wanted at United the most although this was no guarantee of course even if we met his release clause. A blow for France for sure with Euros coming. Hopefully nothing too serious in long term.
 
He must be gutted. He was probably going to make a big move this summer with a massive pay rise.

Always thought he would go to Barcelona, hopefully the injury isn't too bad and he gets his move this summer. Why he still bothers playing for France I don't know. He'd be going to the Euros if he elected to play for Spain.

Anyone know if the injury was due to a challenge or bad footing?

What is best, the seniors bench or playing for the U21? With Spain he will be behind Piqué and Ramos too, and he is french.

He'd be going to the Euros and at least being involved in the senior setup which is much more than what he's getting at France. Which is nothing.

By the look of the video he was putting a challenge in on a Scottish player running into the box. Ironically the player was offside. He has said he wants to play for France. He has to be better than flaming Mangala.

If he went to Barcelona it would put him right in the spotlight. City is a graveyard for CB's. Who would he play with at City? Kompany who can't stay fit for 5 minutes. City need a complete overhaul in the CB department. Just hang on a year and you might get your move to Barcelona, you are still very young.

We choose to not weaken the U21, like Thiago spent a lot of time with Spain U21. Laporte is 21 years old, he will be in the team in the next years but it's better for everyone if he can help us win the U21 Euro than warm the bench with the seniors.

Or an other example, Inigo Martinez.

That's the thing. He really shouldn't be warming the bench for the seniors either.

But he doesn't even get selected for any friendlies, ever. He gets completely ignored friendly after friendly. This is a player that got selected for La Liga Team of the year two years ago. Instead your country picks players Mangala who despite being a good player, has been used as a bit player for City. Sorry, but that makes no sense at all. You'd rather select a player who doesn't play much for a player who's young and has massive potential and is a constant fixture in his clubs first team for League and European matches.

He isn't better than Koscielny or Varane, I know that the caf decided otherwise but it's not the case, at his best he is around their level and since he can help the U21 he plays for them.

Koscielny has years of experience on him. I wouldn't understand a move to City or to us tbh. I am sure his agents would want him at Barca at some stage, so City might have only been a short stay while Pep is there. Then move him to Barca.

His performance levels have been better than Varan's over the last 18 months.

Why won't a move here make sense? He would be a starter alongside Smalling. I don't think Mendes has any preference where he goes.

It's simple, Deschamps built a team where the benchwarmers are good guys, they shut up and lift the spirit, in defense that's Sakho, Mangala wasn't going to the Euro, it would have been Zouma because of his speed and versatility. Laporte isn't better than Koscielny or Varane, so he would have taken Sakho's place which makes no sense because Sakho serves a purpose in the locker room.
Now, on top of that Laporte is the U21 captain and we kind of want to win the 2017 Euro, so why would we weaken the team?

Lets ignore the Euros for a moment, you've had so many friendlies and yet you've given games to Mangala over Laporte. As I say, that simply doesn't make sense. Why not give him a go? Why continue to try players who are obviously not cut for that level?

Simple case is, if Laporte went to Spain NT he'd be at the Euros and he could get games given squad rotation and possible injuries. Instead he'll be playing for the U21's. I admire his patience, but i'd have told the French NT to go feck themselves a while back by now.

Well you select players based on their clubs performances, right? You don't just put them on the team for shit and giggles.

And Varane has been perfect for France during the same time, when a player is already in the team, you take into account his performances with team. For Laporte who comes from "outside" of team, his performances need to be coupled with favorable circumstances (injuries, bad performances from a starter or not having an important competition to play).

At the cost of losing him to Spain forever. Don't know where I read it but I'm pretty sure I read he would consider Spain if France don't call him up soon.

I see your point. But I still believe he should be called up to the senior team so that his NT future is cleared up once and for all and if you still want him to contribute to the U21 then fine. But I don't understand how he's not even got a single cap in the last year.

Because we are not trying players, the group is set. It's Varane, Koscielny, Sakho and one of Zouma, Perrin or Mangala. With Mangala having next to no chances because of a lack of versatility, Mangala and Laporte have the same profile so Deschamps gave the outside chance to the player who is useless to the U21 and already familiar with the group.

Exactly. The guy was voted in La Ligas team of the year in 13/14 season and yet that wasn't deemed good enough to get 1 friendly cap? Bilbao aren't exactly a shit team fgs, he's been in Europe for the past 2 years. So he should have been at least tried and allowed to see if he could get into the Euro Team but instead you leave him on the sidelines. It's bizarre management. I'd understand it if he was playing in Ligue 1 with bad players, but this guy has to defend against the likes or Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar, Suarez etc
