Aymeric Laporte | Txiki doesn't forgive (except for when he does)

Would have been stupid to move. Trying to comeback from a broken ankle at a new club in he most physical league. While at the same time trying to justify a €50m fee and competing with a host of other CBs. Would be madness.
Must have seen the empty seats at the Etihad and would rather play in front of a packed crowd. Sure he wants to play for Barcelona down the line. However that buyout clause will likely see him stay at Bilbao and if he is happy to do that, good for him.

I am sure he will say something about why he signed the contract, so we will need to wait and hear what his reasoning is.

With the prices Luiz, Mangala, Otamendi etc. went for defenders are getting more expensive and they know City will pay the fee anyway judging by previous deals.
They might, but if they get Stones and he is good also no saying Otamendi won't pick up. Kompany might actually stay fit, not being at the euros might help with that.

I wouldn't expect too much sharing on Laporte's part, Basque PR is to tow the line - they'll spin it as committing longterm

He will only be 26 when the contract is up in 2020. Still young for a defender - he'll have his pick at that point.

Not going down well on bluemoon
They didnt want him anyway? Or are they making out that his career is now fecked because he didnt go there? Not every player on the planet wants to play for Man City ffs. Arrogant fecks.

It if their own fault for assuming it was done

One of their ITK said the paperwork was being done and the deal was sorted. Fraud

He might be holding out for Barcelona as I said. He will be in his prime then. Barcelona or City, what a choice. Also if Pep is only there for 3 years, it might actually have put him off. If they don't replace Pep properly and he is stuck at City.

I'm going to get panned for this but I think it's that's a bad move. He's basically priced himself out of a move to a host of top tier clubs now. So he's going to need a PL club or Barca/Madrid to cough up the money.

Backwards step IMO.

Or maybe he actually wants to keep playing for Athletico?

As someone said he could let this contract expire and go to Barca for nothing, or he is just happy where he is. If he becomes that good he will be worth the money, that is if he doesn't up the clause again. Not everybody wants to move. If he is that good we might go in for him.

Gutted. Looked like this was a done deal. Had high expectations for him and to finally solve our CB issues. Not convinced by Stones.

*Athletic

Another season out of the Champions League too. It's a bit like if Stones decided to stay at Everton and put a buyout clause of 60m in his contract. Bit small time to be honest.
It might be he is going to stop a year to prove his fitness, but the risk then is that Pep will only have two year left on his contract before he goes walkabout again. Until Laporte says something we will not know why he wants to stay. Maybe he doesn't want to come to England.

£55Million buy out clause slapped on him is quite a statement. I'm glad we identified Bailly and got our guy early because I suspected something crazy like this would happen. Man City and Pep aren't that big of a pull are they.

Shows the muppets on the caf as well that you're not entitled to every player you want just because you can throw all the money at them

That's fine, but why sign a new contract when he extended it last season? All he's doing is making it more expensive for a move to Madrid / Barcelona. Why would either club fork out 70m euros for him. Without doing research I would assume anyone triggering the clause will be paying the highest fee for a defender. Frankly, he's not worth that money.

That's true. We are laughing at City, but presume all the top players want to play for United or in the PL.

Maybe he likes his club, his family.

He isn't at the moment, but he might be towards the end of the contract, god knows what fees will be knocking about by then.

Why does this mean it isn't true? We saw what happened with Delph last summer, looks like Laporte has done the same. Deal was done, player agreed, before a last minute change of heart. The Bluemoon owner posts information in good faith and has got a lot right, enough to suggest he is not just talking shit.

I'm not questioning your source btw but wasn't Aubameyang at your training ground last week according to him?

That's fair, but he'll have no CL experience this season maybe not next season either and he'll probably still get ignored for the National Team. I respect his decision, just think it's a bad step for his career IMO.

Still amusing he turned down City. If he did it to us I'd be pissed!

One of his representatives was, and given the talk in the press that followed I'd say there was some substance to the claim.
