January 1973 at Highbury. One of the Doc's first signings was George Graham who made his United debut against his old club in a 1-3 defeat. Here, the press surround George during the kicking-in.

March 1979, Maine Road. Brian Greenhoff lobs the ball over Bruce Grobbelaar's head for United's second goal in the FA Cup semi-final. Steve Coppell is also in shot. The game ended 2-2 with Joe Jordan scoring our first.

I hate Graham & wish the prick never played for us. But nice one on adding to the thread Mor. No disrespect intended either man :)

Funny seeing one of the photographers with a fag hanging out of his mouth & the farmer on the far right (not Neo Nazi you fools) gettin his whistle out for his sheep dog..

Remember this? They look like a pair of dodgy uncles. Edwards is afraid that Knighton will walk off with his Rolex.

The Holy Trinity (and David Herd) celebrate Law's goal -one of a brace, at Highbury in November 1964. United ran out 3-2 winners with John Connelly scoring the other goal.

Bobby catches a painful whack from a Southampton defender in November 1971. United won 5-2 with a magnifcent hat-trick by George Best, one from Brian Kidd, and another from Sammy McIlroy. Sammy had made his United debut just three weeks before this game and this was his third goal from the first team.

Remember him coming from the half way line heading the ball all the way and then putting the ball in the net in front of the Stretford end. Sure it was also Arsenal at home and they were champions. Iirc 20M to buy United. He must be kicking himself.

It was Arsenal; Neil Webb and Mike Phelan made their debuts. We stuffed them on a beautiful August day in 1989.

Action from the home leg of the UEFA Cup tie against Ajax on my 21st birthday in 1976. Yes, I did go and had my party on the Friday.

A superb action shot. Jim Montgomery, Sunderland's goalie, dives to save from George Best in a 1-1 draw at Roker in November, 1968.

Bobby-Charlton-stabs-home-1968.jpg

March 1964. I think this is the 6th Round 2nd replay against Sunderland. Both teams are in change strips but the scorer appears to be Charlton. But he didn't score in that game - a 5-1 win. Law got 3, Chisnall got one and David Herd, in shot, got the other. Bobby did score in the other two cups ties against Sunderland. If anyone can clarify this, please do as I'd love to know.

Edit: OK, I'm fairly certain now this is the first match- a 3-3 draw at home and this is Bobby scoring United's second goal. It couldn't be the second replay because this was taken at Old Trafford.

October 1965. United 6, HJK Helsinki 0 (aggregate 9-2). Denis Law tries to get on the scoresheet but couldn't manage to that night. A hat-trick from winger John Connelly, a brace from George Best, and one from Bobby Charlton saw off the Finnish champions. The Helsinki goalie looks like he's taking off in this shot.

May 1967. The title clincher at West Ham. United won 6-1 to put us out of reach of second-placed Nottingham Forest. Here, Hammers goalie, Jim Standen (I think) grasps the ball as Law challenges.

A great aerial shot of Old Trafford circa 1966. The new cantilever stand on the left was built for the 1966 World Cup. The Scoreboard End was to remain open to the elements for a few years after the tournament before being covered.

As it was in 1977. Kids watch the match from behind metal bars at the Stretford End whilst a copper enjoys an unobstructed view of the action. The front of the Stretford End (and other parts of the ground) was always occupied by the young 'uns who paid a much reduced entry fee at the gate.

November 1973 and United lose a bad-tempered game at St. James's Park 2-3. 2-1 up at half-time through George Graham and Lou Macari, United conceded two second-half goals. Here Newcastle goalie Iam McFaul goes for the ball as George Best challenges.

View from The Cliff circa 1969. L-R Bill Foulkes, George Best, Pat Crerand, John Fitzpatrick, Ian Ure, Willie Morgan, Denis Law, and manager, Wilf McGuinness.

More 'Old Trafford' than 'United' but interesting all the same.

Can't believe it's 20 years since the North stand went up.

I know they raked the roof of the North stand down to fit in with the (then) existing roofline but in hindsight - with the second tiers added to the West and East followed by the quads - I wish they had gone for a horizontal roof to allow the whole stadium to be visible.

The Doc's in charge. Denis Law, Tommy Dochery, and David Sadler in the United dressing room after the 1-1 home draw with Leeds in December 1972. It was the Doc's first game in charge of United.

The Doc consoles Brian Greenhoff as he walks off the Wembley pitch after the 0-1 defeat by Southampton in 1976. Also in shot are a miserable looking Gerry Daly and Alex Forsyth.

One of the Doc's best buys. Steve Coppell on the day he signed for United in 1975.

And the old souvenir shop, one of the places to but the old tartan scarves, picture badges and programmes. I tiny place, I spent ages in there before matches, working out what I could afford to buy.
